What completely inoffensive words can't you stand for no good reason?

I cannot stand it when people say spuds instead of potatoes. No idea why, I just hate it!
Will the spuds be ready soon?
Just pick some spuds up while you're at the shop.
The spuds need peeling.
Etc etc 🤮 Awful!

Also when did we all start taking decisions rather than making them?!

CrocodileFrock · 10/05/2020 15:10

"Ridiculous" and "Ridiculously".

Both perfectly normal words but have become so over-used (especially on MN) that I can't stand them.

"He's ridiculously tall."
"I am so tired. It's ridiculous."

On the bright side, the use of "super" instead of "very" has at least reduced a little.

I like Tummy but usually say Guts if referring to a pain or upset, as in 'something's upset my guts'!

ArtichokeAardvark · 10/05/2020 15:23

I know this is a Mumsnet bingo, but panties. Knickers / underwear / pants all fine. Panties makes me cringe.

I've also always hated the word giblets.

iklboo · 10/05/2020 15:39

Bantz, amazeballs, totes, emosh, super anything (super amazing, super quick) life hack - it's not a hack, it's a tip.

Sourced - I sourced some avocados. No you went to the shop and bought them. You did not hack your way through the Amazon with a machete and a native tribesman to guide you.

GoodbyeToCare · 10/05/2020 15:43

Guts is another that gives me the heebiejeebies.

Willowmartha1 · 10/05/2020 16:05

I hate the word twee. I don't know why. I just hate hearing it and seeing it.

lachy · 10/05/2020 16:14

@HopefulMidwife

There is a boarding cattery nearby called Pussy Palace. Every time I drive past it makes me cringe.

HolyMerlot · 10/05/2020 16:17

I'm so glad that "tummy" has made several appearances.

Even though it was about 2 years ago it still grates on me that a 40-odd year old, high flying lawyer working in Central London once emailed a bunch of us saying that he was "out of the office today with a tummy bug" Hmm especially as he isn't even from an area that uses "tummy" as their regional dialect (I know because we're from the same area)

LoisLittsLover · 10/05/2020 16:25

In the wrong - just say wrong, why the need for superfluous words??

Panties

rookiemere · 10/05/2020 16:28

So many of these:

I hate the word Cupping , that weird fertility therapy thing that they do in America particularly famous actresses.
