I cannot stand it when people say spuds instead of potatoes. No idea why, I just hate it!
Will the spuds be ready soon?
Just pick some spuds up while you're at the shop.
The spuds need peeling.
Etc etc 🤮 Awful!

Hun
Cuppa
Sassy

piratehooker · 20/05/2020 07:41

'Plop'. Making me shudder just posting it! No idea why... but I remember being in infant school and having 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark' read to the class, and disliking the word even then (which is a shame because if anyone's not read it... the titular owl's name is Plop!)

Must be the addition of the 'L', as 'pop' sounds totally fine to me.

yousexybugger · 20/05/2020 07:58

'morning'. And 'breath'. I've hated both words since as long as I can remember. Together= uuurgh!

TheoneandObi · 20/05/2020 17:59

I'm sure this has already. Even noted, but 'chillaxing' makes me shudder. Never will I ever chillax

Davros · 20/05/2020 19:03

Vulnerable. I never want to hear it again

wanderings · 22/05/2020 18:40

Unprecedented. If I hear it again I shall scream.

HandfulOfFlowers · 22/05/2020 20:42

"Let that sink in for a moment" As if the writer thinks the rest of us are so cognitively inept we can't process information at the same speed as them.

NietzschePeachPearPlum · 22/05/2020 21:14

Oh yes, @HandfulOfFlowers "Let that sink in for a minute" makes me absolutely murderous. The writer obviously thinks they've come up with something really profound/clever/surprising/original (they never have) and the reader will have to overcome their shock/ prejudice /poor cognition to be able to absorb and comprehend it. The patronising wankshaft.

HandfulOfFlowers · 23/05/2020 08:06

@NietzschePeachPearPlum so true! I actually think they just forgot to preface it with "I had to...." 😂

Seriously79 · 23/05/2020 08:29

Toothpaste and breath

It's the 'th' sound that upsets me

AlrightBabby · 23/05/2020 13:51

Can't bear the word snack, and the even more preposterous 'snackish', I'm feeling snackish, NO, you're hungry! Peckish is nearly as bad, I don't really like words ending with ish very much at all
Selfish
Bookish
Wolfish

I don't like, and never use 'meal' and I can't stand people using twee shortenings or pronunciations like hubby, holibobs, yummy, scrummy etc

I seem to have developed a strange dislike for creme pronounced crem and towelette

Trumpspeach · 23/05/2020 13:54

opportunity.

I have absolutely no reason to dislike the word, but I do. It makes me shudder every time I hear it.

OrinocoGlow · 23/05/2020 14:22

I dislike snack as well - such an ugly word. I also dislike "blank canvas", "flippy" skirt and the word "floppy" as well as many already mentioned.

IntoTheUnknown89 · 23/05/2020 14:31

"Moist" - just no. Lol.
"But hey ho" - I hear this everywhere and hate it!! Angry
"Hun"
"Chick"

@OrinocoGlow lol at floppy Grin

IntoTheUnknown89 · 23/05/2020 14:35

Oh and my DH and his family say phrases like "Aunt Tessa is feeling badly" when they mean "Aunt Tessa is feeling ill" - I'm like Hmm That's not even grammatically correct!!

PoloNeckKnickers · 23/05/2020 15:24

'Anyways'. It's anyway FFS!! Angry

Sonichu · 23/05/2020 15:46

"Hey ho" makes me seethe. It's even worse written down.

Saturns · 23/05/2020 15:47

Mines more of a spelling one, but the use of "gorjuss" instead of gorgeous. It makes me shudder.

Whatsthekey · 23/05/2020 15:56

Unprecedented

I never want to hear that word again!

TheoneandObi · 24/05/2020 08:43

saying "this is tasty" (specifically the word 'tasty'), while smacking lips. urgh.

Shutupyoutart · 24/05/2020 11:36
