What completely inoffensive words can't you stand for no good reason?

I cannot stand it when people say spuds instead of potatoes. No idea why, I just hate it!
Will the spuds be ready soon?
Just pick some spuds up while you're at the shop.
The spuds need peeling.
Etc etc 🤮 Awful!

ypestis · 12/05/2020 22:23

I'm also starting to get slightly twitchy at the words 'lockdown' and 'social’

Me too.
Also “self-isolating” and “shielding” and “save lives”

nevernotstruggling · 12/05/2020 22:24

I think prinny is Northern. I completely agree it's fuck awful but I've never heard it down here

nevernotstruggling · 12/05/2020 22:26

Hubby encouraged me to pamper myself.'
Agreed, that's downright ghastly! (Also, in a credential for successful branding: evokes the image of him wanting her to wear adult diapers for some sex thing in this context. )

I laughed so hard I woke up dd2.

Bobar for poo. Gives me rage

Soon2BeMumof3 · 13/05/2020 12:45

Me again.

'Journey' as a pretentious way to describe a personal experience.

Weight loss journey, breastfeeding journey. I recently saw someone pregnant post that they were excited to start their 'cloth nappy journey'. Envy

I also use cloth nappies, I think they are great, but like all nappies they are fundamentally a vessel for human excrement and not a method of travel or profound personal growth.

CloudsCoveredTheSky · 13/05/2020 12:53

" a vessel for human excrement " Grin

I loathe "journey". I blame youtube and all the influencers trying to make their lives seem interesting and worthwhile. It's so symptomatic of the self involved era we're living in."

Imagine the first world war. "Out here on the Somme with the boys, it's been a real journey. Gangrene, lost 10 men, haven't slept in three days. Don't forget to click to subscribe."

pinklillie · 13/05/2020 15:42

Can I get AngryWhen ordering a coffee or from a menu. It just seems so rude!

sunshineandlollypops · 13/05/2020 15:46

And influence they do.

Today, I was asked to narrate my leadership journey. I was so puzzled by the request that I literally responded with "well, they promoted me to senior executive, so I guess that's what I do for a living these days".

They all assumed I was joking and some actually did laugh. Confused

BrexpatInSwitzerland · 14/05/2020 15:36

... and, yes, with the benefit of hindsight I do recognise that I screwed this one up massively and was meant to say something hopefully inspiring about personal and professional growth and overcoming challenges and all that good stuff.

I genuinely didn't understand "journey" that way, though. The penny only really dropped when I read this thread just now.

'hun'

Makes me want to throw up. Really grates on me for some reason. Trouble is loads of my friends use it and not quite sure how to tell them to cut it out!

AnduinsGirl · 14/05/2020 16:10

'Delicious' when used to describe non-food. It's so fucking twee and cringe. Especially with emphasis on the 2nd syllable!!!
'That man is delicious.'
'I've had a delicious idea.'
'Your baby is so delicious.'
Fuck off you creeps!!!

My late husband uses to say "arrive" when he was on about orgasms. It always made my skin crawl.
