Mine is Sandie Shaw. I can't believe it had never occurred to me until tonight that her name is a play on Sandy Shore.

ladybee

And the first 2 lines of the regular verses in What a Wonderful World (heard that connection being talked about on the radio way back in the 1990's and was surprised although I have to admit I hadn't made the connection of alphabet song and twinkle twinkle)

PoopyPanda · 10/05/2020 10:02

@ScorpionQueen

Sorry, back to Grease.
Why was the song Sandra Dee if her name was Sandra Olsenn?

Ooh, this I know! The other girls are taking the mick out of Sandy’s childlike innocence, comparing her to American actress Sandra Dee who as a child/teen played very innocent characters.

I thought the sistine chapel was called the sixteenth chapel

Really? That's enough to almost make one scream.

TeaStory · 10/05/2020 10:04

*But what's the connection?

Sandie Shaw sounds like sandy shore. How is that a pun? What's the exploitation of the sound them same?*

I guess it just makes people smile and makes her name easier to remember.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/05/2020 10:05

The alphabet song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Baa Baa Black Sheep all have the same tune.

No they don't. There is an alphabet song nowadays (I think perhaps a US import via TV ... it's rhyme makes the last letter 'zee' not 'zed' doesn't it?) which just uses the twinkle tune, but we had a different one when I was growing up which ended with 'zed'.
Baa baa black sheep is completely different after the first few notes.

I've just learned that my arsing autocorrect tries quite persistently to change 'zed' to 'zee'.Hmm

ScorpionQueen · 10/05/2020 10:06

@bettybattenburg
Thank you. Just googled her, what a beautiful woman. I wouldn't have been upset with that comparison.
Smile

What's the shoelace thing?

ladybee28 · 10/05/2020 10:10

@ErrolTheDragon – 'fraid they are. Slightly different notes in the melody, some extra trills, but it's the same tune.

"The rhyme is usually sung to a variant of the 1761 French melody Ah! vous dirai-je, maman, which is also used for "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and the "Alphabet song". The words and melody were first published together by A. H. Rosewig in (Illustrated National) Nursery Songs and Games, published in Philadelphia in 1879.[5]"

@ScorpionQueen I think you meant to tag me!

That leather is produced by removing the hide while the cows are alive (according to the Fossil website). It keeps it supple, I suppose similar to Uggs.

I realised this the other day when looking for information on leather treatment.

.milktwosugers what kind of life are the they born into though? Suffering and confinement are no life at all.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/05/2020 10:13

So maybe not completely different but the ' have you any wool' bit and the end are quite different. Well, they always were the way we were taught the songs. Grin

You can undo a double bow in the usual way (you don't have to undo the second knot first) Either pull really hard, or gently tug either of the spare ends to see which loosens the knot (the other tightens it, hence having to pull harder than usual)

Peanuts, almonds, pistachios, cashews, walbuts, chestnuts, Brazil nuts and pine nuts are not nuts at all, they are actually seeds.

Peanuts are neither, they are legumes like peas and beans.

Prettyvase · 10/05/2020 10:23

Whoops, should read peanuts are not nuts nor seeds!

ScorpionQueen · 10/05/2020 10:24

@PoopyPanda yes I did. Thank you.
@bettybattenburg sorry for the unnecessary tag. And this one.

Prettyvase · 10/05/2020 10:25

Walnuts not walbuts* sorry.

ThankyouPeter · 10/05/2020 10:29

Oh has anyone said the percentages one yet? That you can swap them round and they give the same answer so 80% of 50 is the same as 50% of 80. Honestly can't believe I wasn't taught that!

Wallywobbles · 10/05/2020 10:32

Madagascar population in increase is mad it was 5m in the 60s.

Liked the tortoise skeleton. Who'd have thought.

sashh · 10/05/2020 10:32

Australian snow?

Australia hasmountains, imaginatively some are called 'the snowy mountains' the largest area of permenant snow in one country is in Australia. There may be other areas larger but they are split between different countries eg the Alps are part French, Swiss, Italian and Austrian.

There are entire ski resorts with ski lifts, you have to put chains on your tyres if you drive there.

That 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' drawing looks very advanced for a three year old child!

They're all seeds.

I'd be curious to know whether the original etymology of 'nut' was as restricted and precise as the current botanical definition ... I'd take a bet it wasn't . It's maybe a bit like the distinctions between fruit and veg when of course many veg are fruit and some 'fruits' aren't fruits.Grin

user1495884620 · 10/05/2020 10:40

Pelleas I thought the same but this is mumsnet. There will probably be a flurry of competitive toddler drawing posts now!

Very few chickens go broody nowadays. It's a characteristic that's been bred out. But if you happen to get lucky and have one, you can sneak chicks in when she's asleep and she'll think she's been very clever.
