They don't look like us

So neither of my DC look much like me or DH.
DD3 looks like a mix of sil and dm while
DS10month looks like a hybrid of my brother and one of my cousins.

Is it normal to look at your DC and not see either of you and to see other family members in them?

Will either of them look like their dad? He's beautiful, all olive skin, blue almond shaped eyes and thick dark hair. I'd I didn't love him so much I'd be sick with jealousy 😂

My eldest looks like a mix of me and one of my DHs brothers. My youngest doesn’t look like anyone. I don’t see me or DH in her at all. She resembles us as in you can tell she’s related but no one has ever said ‘oh doesn’t she look like x,y,z’ like they have with my eldest.

Windyatthebeach · 09/05/2020 19:40

I have many many dc and none look like me!!

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 09/05/2020 19:41

My eldest looks very much like my mothers side of the family, and similar to me as I also look more like that side than my fathers side. My youngest is almost identical to my father when my father was his age, so less like me as well. My poor DH and his family have no look in with them at all!

My children look like each other but nothing like me.

maria860 · 09/05/2020 19:52

My oldest is a bit like me but the absolute double of my brother he looks like my brothers son everyone says it. My other two sons are the image of their father dark hair dark eyes olive skin I'm blonde and blue eyed they are nothing like me Hmm

Saz12 · 09/05/2020 19:53

I grew up as looking “like her mother”. Now I look like my (paternal) grandfather, and not in a good way.
DD looks like her Dad. I do wonder if she’s actually mine at all...

ShrekandDonkey · 09/05/2020 19:58

DD looks just like DH and MIL. Same eyes, nose, hair etc.

DS looks like neither DH or I at all but is a combination of both our fathers!

Both of them are blonde haired and blue eyed like DH and as I am dark haired and dark eyed neither of them look like they belong to me.

HerRoyalPain · 09/05/2020 20:01

genetics are funny things.
DS1 looks just like my brother.
DD is my double.
DS2 weirdly looks like my stepdad Confused
Yet they all look alike.
And the boys look a bit like their dad, as in, you can tell hes their dad.
Its all very odd. But theyre all beautiful. Grin

changeagainandagain · 09/05/2020 20:02

My youngest looks nothing like either of us, and vaguely like a distant cousin. His looks and colouring are Asian and we are both Caucasian, he has beautiful almond shaped eyes and so dark, pale skin.

It really is a totally mystery and I don't half get funny looks! Not so much as he's got older, but as a baby.

My eldest is the spitting image of my grandad. Genetics are fascinating.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 09/05/2020 20:03

Thank you!! I was starting to wonder if they were an abnormality because looking at my friends children you can see the parents in all of them.

DS does have DH blue eyes, but he is literally the spit of my brother and cousin. Maybe my dad's family have got strong genes? DD has SIL nose and my mums full lips, but has inherited my thin hair, the poor thing.

You can see they are brother and sister as there are some similarities, but equally they've been mistaken for SIL and DB children when out Blush

I wanted one of mine to look like my husband.
sadly two look v v much like me and one looks like MIL

marmitepasta · 09/05/2020 20:03

Mine don't look like either me or dp really. Or anyone else in the family. Or each other. And they're (fraternal) twins! Switched at birth?

Sandsnake · 09/05/2020 20:05

Strange isn’t it? DS has always looked like someone has merged mine and DH’s faces to make him, he’s such a total mix of the two of us. DD is only three months but not particularly like either of us - at the moment she looks like what you’d expect if DH’s brother and my sister decided to have a baby together!Shock

vampirethriller · 09/05/2020 20:08

My daughter looks like a mixture of my great aunt and my brother. Nothing like me at all.

Unravellingslowly · 09/05/2020 20:13

Yes. But their looks change all the time as they grow.

Samtsirch · 09/05/2020 20:14

A friend of mine looks 100% Italian, yet her parents and siblings don’t at all and everyone always assumes that she was adopted, but her older brother was present at her birth and can remember it.
Her great great grandmother was half Italian but she is the first one in her family after this Italian grandma to display any kind of Italian features.
Genetics ( and the genetic throwback thing) are amazing.

Dartsplayer · 09/05/2020 20:14

I have identical twin girls - one is a mini me and the other is my sister's double - people can't tell them apart but me and my sister don't look alike!!

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 09/05/2020 20:15

My dd sometimes reminds me of my sister. But then people say she takes after me. Yet our nephew looks like my dh. It is actually scary. Wink

Samtsirch · 09/05/2020 20:16

Also I look nothing like any of my immediate family, but am basically my great grandad in a wig and a frock 🤣

lyralalala · 09/05/2020 20:17

I have 5 biological kids and DS1 who is technically my step-son

The only child that has ever been described as my "double" is DS1 Grin

Windyatthebeach · 09/05/2020 20:21

Meant to add, dh isn't ds's biogical df but he looks much more like him than he does me!

That's so bizarre, I used to work with a woman who's eldest DD wasn't her husbands biological daughter, but she looked just like him! I was shocked when I learnt that they weren't related!

I look like my auntie. Her eldest looks like my mum. I can see bits of BIL1 in DS.

Legoandloldolls · 09/05/2020 20:33

I dont think any of my 4 look like me or dh. Mil thinks everyone looks like her favourite child ( she brother) but I dont see that as he has quite a pronounced nose like his dad. Mine dont have that paternal nose.

They look like each other. Dd has a certain look of mil. You would put them with us as parents

CorianderLord · 09/05/2020 20:35

I mean as they grow up they'll probably look more like you both.

If it helps I was a blonde child and at 13 it started growing dark brown. It's nearly as dark as my dads now (he's also olive with almost black hair). My eyes also darkened from blue to a mid dark grey so I don't think anything's guaranteed until they hit puberty.
