They don't look like us

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 09/05/2020 19:25

So neither of my DC look much like me or DH.
DD3 looks like a mix of sil and dm while
DS10month looks like a hybrid of my brother and one of my cousins.

Is it normal to look at your DC and not see either of you and to see other family members in them?

Will either of them look like their dad? He's beautiful, all olive skin, blue almond shaped eyes and thick dark hair. I'd I didn't love him so much I'd be sick with jealousy 😂

None of our 3 look particularly like either of us.

They all definitely have characteristics from both sides of the family though.

willowmelangell · 09/05/2020 20:44

As a young girl I would get told "Don't you look like your Dad!" and I would think, I don't want to look like a short, bald man.
My twin sister looks like our mum.

listsandbudgets · 09/05/2020 20:46

My friend has light brown hair and her husband has almost black hair. Both of their children have beautiful ginger hair. She got so sick of being asked of they were adopted she dyed her hair to match.

I look nothing like my parents or siblings and yet my son is the absolute double of my dad and my grandson looks just like my sister, very strange.

Franticbutterfly · 09/05/2020 20:53

My eldest looks like me or her Dad depending on who you ask (people who knew me when I was the same age can't believe the resemblance, but my husbands family think she looks like him). My middle daughter looks like my father with her dads mouth, and the little one looks like my Mum. Kids change all the time, you may find yours change as they grow.

Gilead · 09/05/2020 21:00

DS1- spit of his father.
dS 2- looks like my Dad.
DD1 -looks like SiL
DD2-looks like other SiL.

DoubleNegativePanda · 09/05/2020 21:07

My DD looks nothing like me, but is the spitting image of my mother, although she got her body type from her dad's side. I've always been fat with non-descript hair, neither brown nor blond, but my child is a gorgeous, willowy dancer with red curly hair. Sometimes I look at her and marvel at the way she cherry-picked the gene pool.

I look nothing like either of my parents, but have discovered that I look exactly like a long-lost aunt. My mom's dad was stationed in Australia and had a second wife and secret family there that my mom found out about a few years ago, and it turns out I favor her half-sister all the way around the world!

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 09/05/2020 21:13

My two both have bits of me and DH, but neither are very like us.

DS looks like my MIL (used to freak me out when he was tiny and I was still breastfeeding! Grin)

DD looks like my MIL crossed with my Dad. Even more freaky at times....

TowerRingInferno · 09/05/2020 21:15

Neither of my children look like me or dh or each other. Even when we look back at photos of me or dh as children there’s absolutely I resemblance at all.

I look much more like my aunt than my parents.

Ds1 looks very similar to one of his cousins.

megladon2020 · 09/05/2020 21:19

My dc doesn't look like me or my dh. I have a nephew whose dad (not bio but only one he's ever known since 9 months) is always told him and my nephew are the double of each other. Obviously no bio link but he has developed lots of his dads mannerisms.

nevergoingoutagain · 09/05/2020 21:32

I used to think my daughter only looked a little not like each of us but not completely like either and felt a little like I wasn't sure where all her features came from. Then we met my husbands sister! (He's adopted) she's a mini of her aunt!!

My other 2 girls look very very like me. My youngest is my doppelgänger and next eldest is like me but with some of dh features.

OhTheRoses · 09/05/2020 21:37

DS is the image of my father except he's blonde and green eyed. Tans like me.

DD is a bit like my grandmother - soft, petite, blue/grey eyed with something different and tans lightly. More DH's side though than DS.

Years ago I met a green eyed cousin of MIL and went "woah" that's where ds's eyes come from.

Again years ago, met a cousin of FIL's at his funeral and my jaw dropped as I registered dd fast forwarded 40 years. Absolute spitting image.

I'm olive skinned and brown eyed but not very dark haired. DH is very fair. The DC have a continental blondness that tans. I am half Jewish. DH is v blonde - Anglo Saxon/Viking. My side is German, Spanish, Portugese, Russian, Irish, English. DH is English, Welsh, French.

The children have come out as archetypal Teutonic.

underneaththeash · 09/05/2020 21:42

None of my children look like me, I’m quite olivey skinned, dark hair and blue eyes and my kids all have blue eyes (as DH has too).

Eastie77 · 09/05/2020 22:04

My DC are mixed (Black / DP is Southern European). DD is the image of her dad and looks nothing like me. DS looks like me and is much darker than DD. I've been told by several people that he doesn't look mixed race at all and one woman commented I shouldn't be ashamed to 'admit' they have different dadsConfused

Confusedasusual78 · 09/05/2020 22:09

I’m short, dark, straight hair, tan easily, blue eyes.
My dd (so far, she’s only 22 months) is tall for her age, very very pale skin red, curly hair, blonde eyebrows and eyelashes 🤷‍♀️She has blue eyes though.

MattBerrysHair · 09/05/2020 22:23

My ds's look nothing like each other. Ds1 looks like my sister, who is very like me but a much fairer version. Ds2 looks like his dad and my exmil. I find it really odd that ds's are so different as my dsis, db and I are very alike. We're a perfect blend of our parents and the similarities are very obvious.

maria860 · 09/05/2020 22:42

My middle son looks like his parental nan so much she has big teeth his dad doesn't and I don't and he got her teeth I find that odd that it skipped and passed down he has to have braces. He has not one feature like me on his face I find that weird.

SuitedandBooted · 09/05/2020 22:43

My daughter is my clone. Same dark brown hair, same skin, green eyes. Same shaped toes and fingers. Same height and build. She's 16 now.
Looking at her is like looking at my teenage self - it's a bit creepy....

When I go for Parents Evenings at school, teachers I've never met before say "Oh, wow, you're Little Suited Mum!"

DS looks very like DH, but has my eye colour.

On the other hand, I look nothing like either of my parents!

maria860 · 09/05/2020 22:44

@Eastie77 I know a woman who's white her partner is mixed face her daughter is dark afro hair and darker then her dad then the middle son looks white and the youngest son looks mixed race non of them are the same colour skin it's amazing how genes work and they don't look like siblings.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 09/05/2020 22:46

On the other hand, I look nothing like either of my parents!

I'm basically a female version of my dad with blonde hair and green eyes

OP posts:
maria860 · 09/05/2020 22:50

Also does anyone not actually look like their own parents much? My dad was tall and dark and my mom is fair but way taller then me. I'm the odd one out I've got five siblings I'm tiny and small framed olive skin blonde hair two of my siblings are ginger really pale skinned freckles like my mom and the other two are dark haired and tall like my dad my mom calls me the runt of the litter Grinand always says she doesn't know where I came from as I'm five foot tall and my little sister towers over me as do all of my siblings. I don't know where I came from I look so different to them.

Spied · 09/05/2020 22:52

DS and DD look nothing like me or their Dad.
DD looks like my Grandmother
DS looks like my DM ( neither my dgm or dm looked alike)
I look like my Dad
Confused

CoodleMoodle · 09/05/2020 23:05

Neither of our DC look like us. DD and I have similar hair, and that's it. When she was little people used to say she looked like me, but I could never see it. And DS is just DS!

They look very, very alike, though. They're 6 & 1 and looking at DS is like looking at DD when she was small, especially from behind (same crazy, curly hair).

And they both look like their cousins (more so DS, I guess because they're all boys), so that's DH's genes! I can't see anybody in my family in either kid, but I'm not good at that sort of thing unless it's very obvious.

saraclara · 09/05/2020 23:08

My eldest is very like my MIL. My youngest is the image of my aunt. I think looks can skip a generation very easily.

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 09/05/2020 23:08

My dd looks like me and my ds looks like his dad they look NOTHING like each other. They are mixed race and have completely different skin and features. To the point people don’t believe they are related. Genes are a funny thing.
