They don't look like us

So neither of my DC look much like me or DH.
DD3 looks like a mix of sil and dm while
DS10month looks like a hybrid of my brother and one of my cousins.

Is it normal to look at your DC and not see either of you and to see other family members in them?

Will either of them look like their dad? He's beautiful, all olive skin, blue almond shaped eyes and thick dark hair. I'd I didn't love him so much I'd be sick with jealousy 😂

My child is a carbon copy of me, the lucky little shit.

My niece looks like me and my nephew like my dad. It's too bad really because my brother is actually much better looking than us. My stillborn daughter looked like my brother. It's almost as if we accidentally had each others children.

It's so weird, my sisters and I are by all very alike, and I in particular am very like our mother and her mother, to the point where a friend's granny, who had known my grandmother at school but not been in contact with the family since, stared at me very hard on first meeting and asked if I was any relation to her maiden name.

But that said, when we're with our cousins on my dad's side, nobody would be in any doubt we're related, and my little sister and the same age cousin on that side had half his year at university convinced they were twins.

My son is the spitting image of his dad, except when he gets the rage, when he looks exactly like my dad. He's only ten months though, so I'm hoping more than the epic scowl comes through later.

My mum has blonde hair and blue eyes, and my dad is Mediterranean-looking with black hair and brown eyes.
Growing up, my sister was the image of my mum, and my brother the image of my dad. I didn't look that much like my parents but did look like a blend of my siblings somehow. Now I'm older I look like my mum, with darker colouring.

We knew a family with 3 daughters years ago that looked completely different! One dark and petite, one tall, tanned and muscly, one pale, pudgy and ginger!

StillMedusa · 10/05/2020 01:22

We've always joked that I was just the packing case for my four...
All blonde haired blue eyed..I have (had!) dark brown hair.
Two are the image of my husband.
One is my dad!
One has my tall skinny build but some stranger's face !
Two got the tall genes from my side, two are short!

However I am a clone of my mother's side.. when I was ten I remember walking down the road from the park near my Gran's house ( not local to me) and an old lady leaning over her gate and saying 'You MUST be a Cleden!' Indeed I was the youngest of that line...

I'm the throw back in our family. They're all typically Mediterranean- dark hair, dark eyes & olive skinned, full lips etc. I'm fair, green eyes but tan very easily & go very dark in the summer. I saw a picture of my Dads mum & it was like looking at myself! Both my daughters are carried on the throw back & mixed in with their Dads Irish genetics. But one tans easily & the other doesn't at all (like their DF!)

I remember one of my best friends growing up had three sisters and not one looked like the other and none of them looked like either parent. Both parents had dark hair and pale skin and were English.

Friend had jet black Afro type hair and olive skin, dark eyes...she looked very French and androgynous, tall, willowy, flat chested, very small facial features, thin lips etc. She looked like a darker skinned Harriet Walter or Tamsin Grieg.

Next sister had thick straight golden hair and blue eyes, pale skin with freckles and was short and chubby with a wide smile, full lips and a fairly big nose. She looked a bit like Lena Dunham but with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Next sister was also short and chubby with dark brown wavy hair (but still completely different hair to friend), huge dark eyes, red, full lips but different shape to sister above, same nose as sister above. She was very “Snow White” looking. Maybe like one of The Corrs sisters.

Sister four had light brown poker straight thin hair, huge blue eyes, thin lips and was absolutely tiny. Very petite build. Redish, ruddy complexion. Tiny sharp nose. Thin lips. Can’t think of anyone she looked like at the moment.

Lots of people thought they were adopted. I still look at them and their parents and can’t see any resemblance between any of them but they are all biological siblings!

It can vary over time... sometimes you will get a certain glimpse of a parent, other times it might be a grandparent. Sometimes they don't look like anybody, then all of a sudden in their 20s or later they suddenly transform into carbon copies of someone!

DD1, spit of me but with DB's almost black eyes.
DD2, absolute image of DM but with longer legs.
DS looks like his sisters. MIL is convinced he looks like DH, but other than his eye colour I don't see it.

They all have DH's facial expressions though!

DNeice looks like me.
