What songs do you sing to your baby (not the "usual ones)

We sing 'unusual' songs to DD. As well as the usual 'row your boat' and 'hush little baby' etc ...

I like to sing songs like 'Land of The Silver Birch' or 'The Dead Horse' sea shanty to calm her down... and action songs like The Princess Pat for play times.

What other songs do you sing? (Looking for suggestions of new songs to learn really! 😁)

Mine are entirely unsuitable.

To eldest DC we sang Babys Got Back but with their name so "'s got a big butt..."

Goostacean · 09/05/2020 14:48

My toddler is currently obsessed with Despacito and Dansa Kuduro...

MsInsomniac · 09/05/2020 14:49

I sang Radiohead’s creep a lot to ds2. Badly at the high bits!

Swing on a Star, Black Hills Of Dakota, Annie’s Song (John Denver), Country Roads, Alrihht For Now (Tom Petty), and a couple of old folk songs like Early One Morning, it Sigh No More from Much Ado

listsandbudgets · 09/05/2020 14:50

I used to sing Lord of the dance but missing out the verses that started I danced on the Sabbath and I danced on a Friday (didn't really want her growing up with lines like "they whipped me and they stripped me and they hung me on high") I left them out and jumped to the last verse.

Also Doe Rae Me from the Sound of Music

I'm not religious, I just like the song :)

TiptopJ · 09/05/2020 14:51

With ds I used to sing shut up a your face and I am the music man to him. He loved them

FourPlasticRings · 09/05/2020 14:51

Feed the birds and you're not sleepy from Mary Poppins. I make my own up a lot too.

listsandbudgets · 09/05/2020 14:51

Anneofcleaves I love Annies Song

CruCru · 09/05/2020 14:52

I used to sing Give Me Oil in my Lamp and This Old Man.

bumblingbovine49 · 09/05/2020 14:54

I used to sing these when DS was very small . He liked to listen to them before going to sleep quite often:

A couple really don't have very suitable for children really but I liked the folky tunes and knew most of the words so that is what I sang

The green fields of France
The Boxer (by Simon and Garfunkel)
American tune (Simon and Garfunkel)
Che sara sara
The Lord of the Dance
Amazing Grace
Two little boys(unfortunately this is by Rolf Harris so probably even less suitable than all the others really!!)

Monstamio · 09/05/2020 14:55

Random folky stuff... Puff the magic dragon, Scarborough fair, Lavender's blue.

I also did Thula Mama classes with my eldest and learnt loads of lovely songs from around the world. I still sing those to her now, five years on.

ParkheadParadise · 09/05/2020 14:55

Coulter's Candy my mum sang this to us many many years ago along with Nobody's child. Both my dd's got the pleasure of me singing both songs to them.

raspberryk · 09/05/2020 14:55

Also baby's got back here, and what shall we do with the drunken sailor BlushGrin

bumblingbovine49 · 09/05/2020 14:56

Oh and Puff the Magic dragon as well

duggeedoesmyheadin · 09/05/2020 14:58

@listsandbudgets literally sing the same lol, also Barbara Ann by the Beach Boys and Monty Python's Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. Occasionally some "do you hear the people sing" from Les Mis. Oh and some 90s/00s indie, like The Kooks She Moves in Her Own Way or Oasis "what's the matter with you" usually when DC is whinging 🙄😊

theseriousmoonlight · 09/05/2020 14:58

My toddler's favourite is Feliz Navidad. I prefer to play her Kate Bush. She enjoyed Radiohead yesterday but I tend to just sing nursery rhymes as I can't really hold Kate or Thom's tune.

theseriousmoonlight · 09/05/2020 15:00

@duggeedoesmyheadin I sang a Les Mis song to my dd yesterday (one more day). She said 'No' very sternly.

OutOntheTilez · 09/05/2020 15:03

They're not babies anymore, but when they were, I used to sing "Close to You" by the Carpenters and "My Guy" by Mary Wells to my sons.

duggeedoesmyheadin · 09/05/2020 15:04

@theseriousmoonlight haha they are quick to form opinions and are very vocal critics!

SoftBlocks · 09/05/2020 15:05

Silly ones I made up myself.

Dozer · 09/05/2020 15:06

Dream a Little Dream of Me, Mama Cass.

All the Pretty Little Horses (a US nursery rhyme I think)

Stay Awake / Feed the Birds, Mary Poppins

iklboo · 09/05/2020 15:12

I used to sing Waltzing Matilda but changed the words so it was about DS.

june2007 · 09/05/2020 15:16

Good night sweet heart but I really must go... (as in 3 men and a baby)

Whatthefunk · 09/05/2020 15:16

I used to sing, you are my sunshine, but sub the word sunshine, for his name. Makes me cry when I hear it now.....
He also loved , want you bad, by Offspring Grin

userabcname · 09/05/2020 15:19

Ds2 gets 'I want it that way' by the backstreet boys at nap time. I'm also partial to a bit of 'Copacabana' although that's far too lively for sleep times as it includes actions and a dance routine :D
