What songs do you sing to your baby (not the "usual ones)

We sing 'unusual' songs to DD. As well as the usual 'row your boat' and 'hush little baby' etc ...

I like to sing songs like 'Land of The Silver Birch' or 'The Dead Horse' sea shanty to calm her down... and action songs like The Princess Pat for play times.

What other songs do you sing? (Looking for suggestions of new songs to learn really! 😁)

I do a nineties medley of anything that comes to mind, I slow down any raps that appear. John legend all of me is a good one for getting them to sleep.
DD is a gospel fan and I'm not religious so I stick to the sister act two score for her.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 09/05/2020 15:20

Kooks by David Bowie (well was written for his son)

1-2-3-4 by Feist

I sang I'll never fall in love again by Dione Warwick to all three of them in bed every night - don't know why - they all know all the words now in their teens and tweens

YolandiFuckinVisser · 09/05/2020 15:23

I used to sing the Boxer to DS and She Moved Though the Fair to DD

Song II by Blur.

There's no business like show business (I have NO IDEA why this one)

Lots of sad folk songs about people's lovers drowning at sea.

timtam23 · 09/05/2020 15:35

Land of the silver birch. DS2 used to ask me to sing it every night. I"d forgotten...(he hasn't asked for ages)

ofwarren · 09/05/2020 15:37

Oh my darling Clementine currently

17CherryTreeLane · 09/05/2020 15:38

I used to sing Sweet Child of Mine by guns & Roses, and hushabye mountain from chitty chitty bang bang.

Nanasueathome · 09/05/2020 15:40

I always used to sing ‘Don’t jump off the roof Dad’ to my children and then subsequently to my grandchildren
My DIL’s friends were well impressed when they were round her house and it came on the
radio and she was able to sing along

FreezerBird · 09/05/2020 15:43

I've just remembered occasional renditions of Blow the Wind Southerly, and the Skye Boat Song, both of which my dad used to sing to me.

Thuglife · 09/05/2020 15:51

I used to sing Nelly & Kelly’s “Dilemma” to Dd all the time. She knows all the words Grin. Why I thought a cheery ditty about cheating was appropriate I have no idea.

Toomuchspinach · 09/05/2020 15:52

Dd3 still loves when I sing ‘you are my sun shine, my only sunshine you make me happy when skies are grey’

everycowandagain · 09/05/2020 15:56

DC1 I used to sing the theme tune from The Wonder Years (what would you do if I sang out of tune etc) and DC2 we are sailing by Rod Stewart Blush

FrogFairy · 09/05/2020 15:57

In utero DS was bombarded with Texas Greatest Hits.

As a baby I would sing Shaggy Angel in addition the the usual You Are My Sunshine and general baby songs.

doughnuthole · 09/05/2020 15:58

FreezerBird, I was just coming on to say Sky Boat Song. It started with my DM singing it to DD at nap time and she'd go out like a light. So obviously had to steal. Also "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" and "Tears of a Clown". Also would start with "You are My Sunshine" which would become a sunny medley with "Here Comes the Sun" and "Sunshine on a Rainy Day"

trilbydoll · 09/05/2020 15:59

We had a bedtime routine that included I Dream A Dream (Les Mis?), Lonesome Polecat (7 Brides for 7 Brothers), Nessun Dorma and Time to Say Goodbye. Quite a mix Grin

DuskandSummer · 09/05/2020 16:06

The Blaydon Races, Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana, Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses, Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins, Wild Thing by The Troggs...nice and varied!

GrouchyKiwi · 09/05/2020 16:17

Along with You Are My Sunshine, we sang a lot of Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash to DD1. We got into the habit of it when she kept acting like she was going to arrive early (from 24 weeks).

CountFosco · 09/05/2020 16:28

DH taught the kids the days of the week by sing The Cure's 'Friday I'm in Love'.

Honeybee85 · 09/05/2020 16:32

I am ashamed to admit that my DS loves Megan Thee Stallion and 'Bitch' is his favorite song.

burntpinky · 09/05/2020 16:32

Rockin’ around the Christmas tree

Boom shake the room

And loads of made up stupid songs

Honeybee85 · 09/05/2020 16:34

To my defense: he is less then a year old so fortunately he can not repeat any words he might have picked up from this song.

pooopypants · 09/05/2020 16:41

Pretty Fly for a White Guy by Offspring 🙄

Sgtmajormummy · 09/05/2020 16:47

I used to sing this to DC1 (not called James, BTW). It’s a lovely lullaby waltz.

For DC2 it was Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl, something completely different!
spiderlight · 09/05/2020 16:51

When DS was a baby, he loved DH singing 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' to him at bedtime, but would get very annoyed if he got a word wrong. He also liked 'Lily Bolero'.

roratone · 09/05/2020 16:53

Sweet Child of mine when she was little. Find it exceptionally emotive to listen to now.
