What songs do you sing to your baby (not the "usual ones)

We sing 'unusual' songs to DD. As well as the usual 'row your boat' and 'hush little baby' etc ...

I like to sing songs like 'Land of The Silver Birch' or 'The Dead Horse' sea shanty to calm her down... and action songs like The Princess Pat for play times.

What other songs do you sing? (Looking for suggestions of new songs to learn really! 😁)

Sun and moon- Miss Saigon
Feed the birds- Mary Poppins
Songbird - Fleetwood Mac
Dreams- Fleetwood Mac
You are my sunshine
Here comes the sun- the Beatles
Imagine- John Lennon
We'll meet again- Vera Lynn
Memories and Evergreen- Barbra Streisand

I'm a professional singer (Well I was before I had my son) so singing to my baby has always been a big bonding thing for me and him. (He is two now so not a tiny baby anymore and they are all duets now which I love more than anything lol)

We sing a variety of made up songs to CBeebies theme tunes.

She’s also partial to the Baby Club song ‘What’s in the bag’ but bag substituted for pants when checking her nappy.

I try not to do this in public.

Anything from Biggie to Queen Grin

We constantly have the radio on in our house, with an Old school house/ Nu disco station so whatever comes on.
I do tend to sing Prince- Beautiful Girl but then I can burst into Tupac ... it’s all about balance.

When my DS was a colicky newborn, being sung to in a darkened room was the only thing that would calm him. He mainly got Andy Williams you're just too good to he true from me, and a 90s/00s rock and metal medley from my DH!

What shall we do with the drunken sailor.

My nana used to sing it to me as a kid. My grandad was a fisherman, and a drunk.

Look up ‘Washing Song’ by Eliza Carthy. It’s a beautiful, tender lullaby / declaration of love for a child.

FenellaMaxwell · 09/05/2020 20:16

Pretty much the entire Beatles back catalogue, and a lot of Queen!

DS always settled to Little Donkey. He was born in March Grin

Literaryseed · 09/05/2020 20:50

Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins

HippyChickMama · 09/05/2020 20:55

Some of the songs already mentioned plus Dream a Little Dream of Me and Thief by Belly

hiredandsqueak · 09/05/2020 21:06

I sing "there's a hole in my bucket" and "Ice, Ice Baby" to dgs. Dd sings "Don't Count on me" Sum 41 to him. Dd2 sings "the guacamole song"

Zisforstripyoss · 09/05/2020 21:29

DC2 loved 90s / 00s pop. Backstreet Boys Quit Playing Games and Anywhere for You were particular favourites, she'd be asleep in minutes!

SeththeSloth · 09/05/2020 21:40

You are my sunshine and David Gray Sail Away to my two DC. Still makes them sleepy now! I also used to sing the original Matt Lucas Baked Potato song to DS1.

Will0wtree · 09/05/2020 21:48

I don't know where it came from originally, (we are not Scottish) but my Mum used to sing it to me, so I sang it to my baby.

"Oh, you can see the babby if you care to come to call
he's a lyin' by his mammy in a wee white shawl
he looks so sweet and dumpy
like a dumplin' in a hanky
and we're goin' ta call him William Angus Matheson Jock McCall"

Also, anytime I washed their hair it would be accompanied by the song "Solider, soldier won't you marry me" (And no, I wasn't born in 1842, so I don't know why this was a family tradition)

My girl was a Johnny cash fan when she was a baby. For her to be asleep, Johnny cash had to be playing. For some bizarre reason the song from mary poppins “feed the birds” did too and she still to this day can’t watch that movie without falling asleep.

When she was 18 months her favourite song to sing was cauliflowers fluffy, cabbages green. She used to sing herself to sleep at that point. I’m not sure why but we must have sang that a million times until she gave up on it age 3.
