Should NHS staff go ahead in queues?

I have only done it once, and got some evil looks from the others queuing. It was my only day off and was knackered and needed some essentials so thought 'just this once'-might not do it again!
It sort of felt like all the clapping in the world and rainbows doesn't mean much in the real world, but I might be a bit more careful about waving my lanyard around in the future (and yes, i'm frontline ward NHS staff working on covid wards fwiw).
Any thoughts from others very welcome.

Sorry for typos
Redistributed eggs and cakes we were donated after Easter.

I would prefer people with disabilities who are really struggling to stand in queues to be given priority and then, yep NHS workers.

I think good marketing technique, probably increases profits

call me cynical but quite a few business around here are using the nhs heroism to bring in money while technically not working (so presumably qualifying for furlough etc?)

For example a local pub is exclusively making and delivering to hospitals. They are all over social media with photos of them “helping nhs heroes” and sharing posts of thanks from staff enjoying their meal breaks.

They aren’t donating though- they have a gofundme which is covering expenses at least.

Quite a few MLM “businesses” also have gofundme pages so they can deliver “pamper packs” and aloe shit to NHS heroes...

Free advertising, local goodwill, offloading products with no financial loss...

They don’t get quite the brownie points delivering to private businesses like care homes.

I absolutely dislike the MLM people who have taken advantage to ask people to contribute to care packages. Please don’t contribute to these if you are asked !!

I feel the same about those boxes/trolleys in supermarkets for food banks. The stuff people put in them has all been paid for and the supermarket has taken its profit.

My Trust has issued a thanks to our local public community for food and other donations but urged them to now consider to donate to food banks neighbours and others in need instead.

I don't have a problem with NHS staff going to the front of queues.
