Should NHS staff go ahead in queues?

JustOneLastThing · 07/05/2020 23:03

I have only done it once, and got some evil looks from the others queuing. It was my only day off and was knackered and needed some essentials so thought 'just this once'-might not do it again!
It sort of felt like all the clapping in the world and rainbows doesn't mean much in the real world, but I might be a bit more careful about waving my lanyard around in the future (and yes, i'm frontline ward NHS staff working on covid wards fwiw).
Any thoughts from others very welcome.

No

Tonz · 09/05/2020 16:20

*@EnthusiasmIsDisturbedAll staff are provided with masks but right now the message from head office is that its optional to wear them and a lot choose not to.
I don't know if policy will change yet but if so the masks are there.
Again
*@stayclosetoyourself** I Misread the post have admitted this several times and if u bother to read back u will see I was addressing one person.. the persons post I misunderstood not the entire nhs. It was then u who got personal saying I can't manage my job and staff so maybe u are more of a keyboard warrior than u realise

SpiritEssence · 09/05/2020 16:23

Tonz I work in a supermarket to and we are also frontline staff but still get daily abuse and I've seen so much moaning going about social media. The entitlement of some customers is stupid. Dont they think us retail workers get scared coming into work. We put up with abuse and dealing with hundreds of customers per shift god knows what there carrying. Also were short staffed so still have to carry in as usual.

deewebb99x · 09/05/2020 16:27

No. Not all of them are working on covid wards lol, at the end of the day people work in life you shouldn't get priority just because you're working in a pandemic

Notnownotneverever · 09/05/2020 16:28

I think the problem is that lots of NHS workers are just enjoying the free ride like admin workers and staff working from home. Then it makes other people a bit resentful and less patient. It should be frontline staff and shift workers only perhaps. But there is no way to arrange this I imagine.

Tonz · 09/05/2020 16:29

spiritEssenceThe abuse in supermarkets its terrible right now. Any little thing can cause a kick off. We had to call the police in 11 times on thursday. A lot of our checkout girls are 18-19. Someone's daughters.
I'm surprised all my staff keep turning up the next day so proud of them. I hope ur manager is proud of u for going back as well

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 09/05/2020 16:30

That’s good to hear as masks are available online.

And that will please some posters on here that they are provided with masks as they are as at much at risk if not more so than frontline nhs staff. Amazing what you learn on here

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 09/05/2020 16:35

Notnownotneverever people get resentful if they think they are missing out of something

Then will make excuses as some taking the piss so they now have a valid reason to think it’s unfair.

Has anyone said EnthusiasmDisturbed it would be better if you had always had adequate PPE and you were paid the over time rather than the minimal discount you get.

No because they are pissed I get that discount and that’s not fair they don’t

Tonz · 09/05/2020 16:37

I wish I could make them wear the masks to be honest for their own safety but I think with so much mixed messages about masks most of the staff don't want to wear them.
If it becomes compulsory they are already in store ready for them to use.

Tonz · 09/05/2020 16:40

It's shit u don't get paid for ur overtime. Neither do I because I'm salaried but I do get my time back in time off eventually. Do u get that at least?

stayclosetoyourself · 09/05/2020 16:48

No I just didn't think you explained it and still haven't. You genuinely thought she was having fun and thought you would wade in that it was her fault as an nhs 'queue jumper' that your customers are kicking off.Biscuit yeah right ( NB - sarcasm).
see the other comments rather than act offended.

soanco68 · 09/05/2020 16:51

I am NHS admin. And wouldn't use this to jump to the front of the queue however those on the frontline should be able to use anything that makes their lives a little easier. So absolutely do this!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 09/05/2020 16:52

I doubt it and certainly not at the moment

I’m quite sure the perk of an early shopping hour shall be taken away soon as it’s obviously causing resentment from people who think they are missing out 🙄 or the going to the front of a queue. As supermarkets want to keep customers happy

Will NHS staff get a pay rise will those that worked in icu get some sort of bonus I think maybe as a publicity stunt. From what I’m reading the Say At Home message shall be dropped and maybe soon the Save The NHS (quite happy for than to be dropped)

stayclosetoyourself · 09/05/2020 16:56

Which is your store Tonz?
I won't be ' queue jumping ' there or anywhere else for that matter where it is clearly unwelcome.

Tonz · 09/05/2020 16:57

How many fucking times *@stayclosetoyourself*Yes I genuinely did think she had fun jumping the queue because I MISREAD her post. Admitted that several times now. I said I'm glad u had fun not I'm glad the whole NHS had fun. How fucking hard is that for u to understand. I have explained it if ur not getting it then its on u

Tonz · 09/05/2020 17:00

@EnthusiasmIsDisturbed * The NHS fast track queue will be remaining indefinitely.
@stayclosetoyourself* how many times do I have to repeat that myself or the staff have no issue with nhs queue jumping. Some customers do I think everyone knows that. Do u think its just customers at a specific store?

stayclosetoyourself · 09/05/2020 17:01

Don't believe you for a moment.

overworkedandstressed · 09/05/2020 17:11

@stayclosetoyourself do fuck off. You were exactly the same yesterday if anyone dared disagree with u. I perfectly understand what Tonz is saying. She picked up a post wrong has openly admitted it and still here u are picking over it like some kind of vulture. Getting personal about her job then having the neck to call her a keyboard warrior. Seriously have a word with yourself

bloodyhellsbellsx · 09/05/2020 17:19

I think it’s unfair people saying oh only covid wards should be able to queue jump, you have no idea how hard staff are working currently, sickness levels are sky high, it is impossible to social distance, we put ourselves at risk every day we step in the hospital and I can’t believe people begrudge staff going in the supermarket first! So thank you nhs let’s clap and put banners up, but no way are you getting in Tesco before me 🤣

Tonz · 09/05/2020 17:19

@overworked ahh someone understands me. Making a mistake clearly means I hate nhs surely. And here is u a nurse not even offended.. Seriously though I haven't a problem with nhs jumping queues no matter what their role is.. Spent 2 days saying that now and still @stayclosetoyourself doesn't believe me... Il be crying into my big pillow tonight over it.... Not.
My NHS customers know we are happy for them to do it and to me that's the most important thing

overworkedandstressed · 09/05/2020 17:33

@bloodyhellsbells I agree it's not only c ovid ward staff who are working hard right now hospital staff in general are working long hours. To be honest how much longer does each individual wait if someone queue jumps. A couple minutes

Tonz · 09/05/2020 17:38

Yep a couple minutes. That's it. I think customers right now are just stressed about everything tensions are high some people are scared to come into the shop and only come if they have to and so get annoyed at the slightest thing. We can't please everyone so we can only do our best. Nhs staff are welcome to queue jump and when a customer kicks off and gets abusive to myself or my staff they are removed from store so off they go to queue somewhere else. Just wait the extra couple minutes

bloodyhellsbellsx · 09/05/2020 17:48

Patients are coming in with non respiratory issues, getting tested and coming back positive so exposing a ‘clean’ ward with staff in minimal PPE to the virus.

Aggression should not be tolerated at all, regardless of the situation, staff deserve to do their job feeling safe and secure but it’s not always the case, I’m sure NHS staff will be able to relate to the problems your staff are facing @tonz

Tonz · 09/05/2020 18:09

I know they do I've read horrible stories of abuse towards nhs. It's not fair on anybody. It's been an eye opener for us we are not used to this level of abuse and unfortunately some of our older more experienced staff are shielding a lot of our staff are so young but hats off to them they are taking it on the chin. . This pandemic has brought out the best and unfortunately the worst in some people.
NHS staff should never have to deal with abuse ever in such a busy environment.
Retail is usually more relaxed but it is what it is I suppose

bloodyhellsbellsx · 09/05/2020 18:13

I remember when I was newly qualified but nurse in charge 🙄 and asked a man to step outside the bay so a lady could use the commode, he told me to fuck off and started calling the lady all sorts of names, a great big bloke against a 21 year old girl and a 80 year old woman..people can be vile!
