Does anyone else *whisper* not like summer that much?

I love autumn and winter. I love being wrapped up in big sweaters, I love being cozy inside when it's cold and lashing down outside, I love Christmas, I love hot chocolates with marshmallows after a freezing walk with the dog.

I hate being too hot. I hate being sweaty. I hate not being able to sleep because I'm clammy. I hate having to get on with normal life when I'm bloody boiling and uncomfortable.

I'm sure this is highly controversial but aside from the odd barbecue which I enjoy, or a holiday abroad when it's hot which I don't mind as there is usually air con in the bedroom and I don't have to do anything I don't want to do and can just sit in cafes and drink cold beer, I wish summer would sod off.

We bought an air con unit last year and it's a bloody godsend but it's only for one room.

It’s weird because I used to live abroad and loved the heat but yeh I basically hate summer these days! i look after my skin much more now this wearing suncream which I hate the feeling of . I feel sticky sweaty and like my skin is tight within minutes of been outside and the light hurts my eyes . Huff
Roll on autumn !!

CocoLoco87 · 07/05/2020 14:51

I dont like it, mostly because I'm overweight so I feel fat and exposed in shorts and t shirt. Also I'm very pale and get burnt / heat rash immediately in the sun.

What I would say though is that lockdown has been helpful for this. I've been in the garden, not worried about anyone seeing me and my pale flab, and I managed to get a base tan a couple of weeks ago. I've been in the sun this week again, and instead of heat rash, it's just topping up the tan. But I would never normally be in shorts and a vest in april / may.

Also the amount of suncream you have to put on the kids and the ice lollies like pp said.

AvocadoPrime · 07/05/2020 14:53

I bloody hate the summer.. nothing worse than being too hot! Especially at night. I've just ordered a thin duvet as I am already waking up hot 😤
I have hyperhidrosis so I'm just a sweaty mess that has to live in black.
I love being cosy with candles and blankets😍

CocoLoco87 · 07/05/2020 14:53

When I found the summer bashing thread on here last year, I realised I wasn't alone in how I felt! All my friends love summer

managedmis · 07/05/2020 14:55

Yeah, I'm not keen. Hate the clothing I feel obliged to wear, I prefer a roll neck, jeans and boots!

I don't mind summer food too much, salads, BBQ etc.

I just feel better in myself during the other seasons.

unsure111 · 07/05/2020 14:58

Was saying the exact same today. I hate summer. I was wishing it was cold, rainy/snowing and dark early nights. I'd be so much happier

managedmis · 07/05/2020 15:11

One word : Midges

😱😱😱

BobbinThreadbare123 · 07/05/2020 15:17

I don't like summer either. I like the extended daylight but tramping round in the heat is my idea of hell. I don't tan; I just burn and get PLE. Sweaty. Even when I've been very slim (we're talking a size 4/6 at 5'7") shorts chafed.
On the other hand, I don't like xmas either.

Lifeisabeach09 · 07/05/2020 15:48

I'm with you, OP. Love autumn and winter. Like small elements of summer as you said (BBQs, warm holidays with drinks in the shade).

Brigante9 · 07/05/2020 15:57

I hate it, nothing over about 16 degrees ever, please. It’s just uncomfortable and annoying, the horse is way down the bottom of the field and gets fat, I sweat just walking down to get him, coming back up the nice steep lane is horrific.

InterstellarDrifter · 07/05/2020 16:06

I hate it when it gets above 21c
It’s hot, stuffy and makes me lethargic.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 07/05/2020 16:12

Crisp spring or autumn day for me.

I’m too fat for summer, I don’t do heat anymore as a woman in me prime and I go purple.

When it is fashionable or attractive to look like a sweaty, knackered plum then I might embrace it. Till then ...

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2020 16:17

No I love it. Getting up in the morning and having my coffee outside, on the patio, being able to potter in the garden without getting wet and cold. All the pretty flowers are out, seeing everything bursting to life in the garden, having dinner outside with some music on., wearing light clothes, not having to be all bundled up, getting some colour on my skin and looking healthier and not like Casper after he got a fright. Respite from the dreary months of cold and wet, bare trees, no flowers, dead leaves.

Spring and summer for me.

espressoontap · 07/05/2020 16:17

I hate the summer, I get heat rash and it's unbearable. I hate being hot. I'm also going to be heavily pregnant so that'll be fun. Roll on autumn and winter! Love the colour change and being cosy.

Lostvoiced · 07/05/2020 16:21

I hate summer, I always have.

My mum is ginger and while I didnt get the hair I got the sensitivity to heat. I essentially become a vampire in summer.

It does seem like society expects everyone to love summer, but I hate being hot.
I like spring, when it's sunny and not too warm. Autumn is my favourite and I like winter too. Summer is the worst.

Dialdownthedrama · 07/05/2020 16:23

Are you new to the site? Every hot summer (no matter how brief) has a series of threads of people complaining how they hate it and it is ruining their lives.

It is the way of MN.

Alyic · 07/05/2020 16:23

I hate the intense heat we can get in July and August, the summer of 2018 nearly killed me. I'm quite happy with the weather at the moment.

Rebelwithallthecause · 07/05/2020 16:24

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️
Much prefer autumn and winter

managedmis · 07/05/2020 18:09

I think we have some newbies in our (autumnal) midst, dialdown

I hate summer in the UK. We always get that muggy sort of heat that you can't escape. It's different to the Mediterranean where it's a drier heat and sitting in the shade lets you cool off. Plus you never know if it's going to lash down in the middle of summer. I agree, I'm not a fan. I love autumn

JimmyTheWeed · 07/05/2020 18:34

Ha ha ha I know summers on it's way when one of these threads appears! Grin
I'm definitely not a fan of summer. Well hot summers. My heat tolerance level is about 22 degrees. I can see no attraction whatsoever in feeling hot, sticky and sweaty all the time.

One of the worst things about hot weather is the fact that EVERYBODY else seems to love it. If you dare to admit that you're finding 32 degrees in the shade a bit hard going, you'll be looked at as if you've just said that your hobby is drowning kittens! I think mob mentality may have something to do with this. It's not 'the done thing' to admit that you dislike it.

Another thing that winds me up is the newspapers reporting of imminent or ongoing heatwaves. e.g. "Britain 'sizzled' in temperatures of up to 30 degrees" or "Parts of the UK 'basked' in 12 hours of non-stop hot sunshine yesterday". And the worst one - "The UK is going to 'ENJOY' temperatures of 35 degrees at the weekend". You can fuck right off with your 'enjoyment'. Speak for yourselves! By the end of a heatwave,I think if I see the words 'basked','sizzled' or 'enjoyed' once more in relation to the weather,I shall bloody scream!

Holothane · 07/05/2020 18:42

We both don’t like being too hot, the ants we have to bleach the wall from April into June otherwise we’d be over run, I love the lighter nights though. But yes September through to Christmas is my favourite time, I love Christmas shopping online of course planning. In December I jump for joy my favourite month of the year advent in church and Christmas itself.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 07/05/2020 18:43

Basked? not basking but basting Collapsed in a hot sticky mess of exhaustion.

Sizzled? Aye like an overstuffed sausage in a very hot pan.

Enjoyed? I’d only enjoy it if excess body fat melted and flowed out of my feet.

I like to cook. I don’t enjoy cooking. Angry not cross but florid.

JimmyTheWeed · 07/05/2020 18:44

I might add - are you new to MN OP? Grin Every year there are threads like this with literally hundreds of us saying that we don't like summer.
Another couple of things that I hate about summer are all the men walking around topless. I think it's a pretty unattractive look for 99% of the male population. Plus the fact,as a previous poster said 'It brings out all the "crazies". So many people start behaving like absolute twas, especially the ones who have their car stereos thumping ,inflicting their shite on everyone else.

ScarfLadysBag · 07/05/2020 18:45

Definitely not new, but I usually stick to threads where I can call someone an obnoxious twat Grin
