Does anyone else *whisper* not like summer that much?

I love autumn and winter. I love being wrapped up in big sweaters, I love being cozy inside when it's cold and lashing down outside, I love Christmas, I love hot chocolates with marshmallows after a freezing walk with the dog.

I hate being too hot. I hate being sweaty. I hate not being able to sleep because I'm clammy. I hate having to get on with normal life when I'm bloody boiling and uncomfortable.

I'm sure this is highly controversial but aside from the odd barbecue which I enjoy, or a holiday abroad when it's hot which I don't mind as there is usually air con in the bedroom and I don't have to do anything I don't want to do and can just sit in cafes and drink cold beer, I wish summer would sod off.

We bought an air con unit last year and it's a bloody godsend but it's only for one room.

The only thing I like about summer is the sun seems to make people happier. I hate winter. Autumn would be my fav

DappledThings · 07/05/2020 12:40

What we have at the moment is perfect for me. It's sunny and blue-skied and the washing isdrying nicely outside. But it's cool inside the house and at night. And it isn't light too long in the evening.

Anything above 21 is too much for me. And when the sun doesn't bugger off till after 8.30 gets a bit tedious.

MustBeThursday · 07/05/2020 12:52

Fellow summer hater. I hate being hot. I don't burn that easily but I go blotchy red when hot, my thighs rub together, bright sunlight hurts my eyes. The nights are too hot to sleep. The DC (and DH) need to be persuaded into wearing sun cream and they want ice cream which melts everywhere. There are people out everywhere. Everyone wants to sit outside all the time. There wasps and insects all the time.

Autumn is the best season! I do love spring flowers and warmth but get horrendous hay fever through spring and summer so it spoils it.

Dottiedot19 · 07/05/2020 12:55

Summer is my worst season. I should have been born a polar bear and been able to live my whole life surrounded by nice cold snow.

I burn within seconds of even thinking about sitting in the sun, I have atrocious hayfever and I channel Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde from June to late September. Once autumn gets here I become much nicer!

EstherLittle · 07/05/2020 13:01

What I hate is that we get a few days of intense heat then it cools down then heats up again so I never acclimatise. I hate feeling hot and sweaty. I don’t mind the heat so much if I am on holiday by the sea but in dusty dry polluted London it sucks.

I went to Italy a few years ago and decided after that to start dressing like Italian women do in loose linen clothes. It has made the heat a bit more bearable. In my head I look chic.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 07/05/2020 13:12

I love it...i save a fortune on my oil heating bill and my house doesnt look like a chinese laundry as i can get it all dry outside.

mogloveseggs · 07/05/2020 13:27

Hate summer. Always have.
It's to be 9 degrees here on Sunday can't bloody wait!

JimandWilson · 07/05/2020 13:35

It's a sad day today for me as I swap the winter duvet for the summer one. I cannot wait for it to be other way around. Love heading into Autumn. Summer for me is exhausting with trying to do everything whilst hot and sweaty, having allergies, swatting flies and wasps, and expectations of being out and 'doing stuff'.

Spring and Autumn all the way!

spiderlight · 07/05/2020 13:50

Me! I hate the heat, cannot function in bright sunshine (migraines), react badly to insect bites, burn instantly if not slathered in factor 50, get polymorphic light eruption all across my throat and chest, which itches and looks hideous, and have to spend the entire time pursuing ginger DS around with a bottle of sunscreen. I also hate the pressure to be Out Enjoying It, but if I'm not out I feel constantly anxious that everyone else is doing something lovely without us. I have terrible social anxiety and very few friends locally, and summer heightens this tenfold. It's a bit better now that DS is old enough to go out and see friends independently, but I still spend the whole of the spring dreading summer and longing for autumn, while quietly berating myself for being a miserable old cow.

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 07/05/2020 13:54

Am I the only person who doesn't have hot chocolate and marshmallows whilst snuggled under a blanket after coming back from a walk of crunching orange and brown leaves underfoot?

I like spring the best.

YgritteSnow · 07/05/2020 14:01

Me. Can't stand it. Dd is even worse, if the sky outside is bright blue she will irritably draw the curtains so she doesn't have to look at it. She likes a grey sky and mild, slightly chilly weather. We walked the dogs this morning in a beautiful place and moaner about it being too hot the whole time, couldn't wait to get back to the car and out of the sun.

Toilenstripes · 07/05/2020 14:07

I had never heard of people actually hating summer until I moved to the UK. I love heat and birds and ice cream. I love warm breezes and lightly roasted shoulders.

fronttoback · 07/05/2020 14:09

I can't stand the heat and bright sunshine, it gives me a headache.

Fuckerdoodle · 07/05/2020 14:12

I hate summer. Too hot, too sweaty and too many old men topless.

Winter nights are amazing, hot chocolate and fluffy blankets! And throwing a fur coat and boots on to take a walk in the fresh air is just so calming Smile

Fuckerdoodle · 07/05/2020 14:14

Oh my goodness yes! The bloody insects Envy

There is just something so pretty about the world starting to die in autumn and everything is quiet and bare. Spring I love as well because of the trees stating to refill with leaves and the air is so fresh and crisp!

MiniChoc · 07/05/2020 14:14

I hate summer because I'm so overweight. Always too hot, hate having my arms out but it's so hot I have to and then feel really self conscious.

Coronabored · 07/05/2020 14:16

Hate it. My wife and kids are happy in the garden while I am tucked away upstairs with the curtains even closed Grin. I do get bad hayfever though.

Haworthia · 07/05/2020 14:20

I’m with you OP. I’d always rather be too cold than too hot, I’m pale as hell and burn SO easily, and in recent years I’ve developed something called Polymorphic Light Eruption, which is a skin condition triggered by sunlight that makes me itch so severely want to flay my own skin off.

ByzantinePrincess · 07/05/2020 14:23

I’ve met so many people who hate summer and each one of them, without fail, thought it was some kind of radial, bold, rare opinion that only they held.

I actually think hating bloody winter and a Christmas is rarer than hating summer. And much, much more logical.

ScarfLadysBag · 07/05/2020 14:35

It's weird as I haven't ever met anyone in the flesh who has admitted to not liking summer other than DH! Everyone else I know is all full of the joys of the lovely sun and sitting out and drinking wine and reading books. But maybe they're just faking it to avoid suspicion! I've probably been guilty of that in the past too as it's easier in terms of small talk to agree that it's lovely weather blah blah Grin

happypotamus · 07/05/2020 14:38

I quite like warm and sunny. I don't like hot though I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate it. I don't like summer at work, because it is ridiculously at my work, and will be even more so if we are still having to wear full PPE at times. Right now, summer is causing me big problems due to the resurgence in my self-harm. I can't keep wearing long sleeves and pretending not to be hot and I have no idea what to do with that.

Haworthia · 07/05/2020 14:42

Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice when it’s warm and sunny. Sunshine cheers everyone up. I’m not a monster Grin

But I hate heat, and sun cream, and chasing my kids to apply sun cream to them, and sun hats, and (as a PP said) the pressure to DO THINGS when the weather is nice, and wasps, and...

BearSoFair · 07/05/2020 14:48

Me! I hate it, can't stand being hot and sweaty, hate shorts and haven't worn a dress in over a decade, can't stand the insects all around, and to add insult I don't even tan if I do have to be outside, I just go pink. And I have low blood pressure which always seems worse when it's warm so everytime I stand up I feel like I might fall right back down!

Spudlet · 07/05/2020 14:49

I like the weather like it is right now. Warm and sunny without being boiling. I can leave the back door open without freezing, DS can run in and out at will and I can sit outside on a blanket on the grass without boiling to death. Perfect!

Once it gets to full on summer, I like it if I can stay in the shade but I do get a bit peeved if I have to actually do anything in the sun. And I hate the lawn going brown and crispy. And sticky sun cream. And sweaty thighs are the worst. And the air con in my car is crappy so we boil. Not keen. And the horse flies! We get so many of them around here! And they love me! And I react so badly to them, they get so itchy Sad

Autumn (especially early autumn) is the best, if it’s sunny but not too hot. I love running through the woods when it’s cool enough to not be too boiling and the bitey insects have buggered off.

Winter isn’t my favourite, it’s very windy where we live and I dislike windy weather very much. And being stuck inside with DS is hard. Obviously we go out but you can’t spend as much time outdoors as in warmer weather.

But yeah, right now is ideal and I would like it to stick like this, please Grin

Nope because it brings out the crazies
