Take your shaming and your doom and gloom somewhere else.

It's very low risk.
With all the testing avaliable now, the community cases now being identified are low.
It's a one-off, in the open air in dry, warm conditions. You'd have known it if there was sneezing/ ccoughing pushing riskier particles out. Most of the population have spent 7 weeks in a low risk environment with the risk reducing over time.

The boost to mental wellbeing is far more likely to be beneficial.

MagdaS · 08/05/2020 22:24

Wax I've said before on this thread that my children are at school (we're both key workers) with mainly children of front line medics, and there has not been a single case either among the children, or teachers.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/05/2020 22:26

Thanks BogRoll. I know that deep down and I know it did us both good really. None of the neighbours are working as they have all been furloughed so they’ve not been mixing with people. I’m the only one who hasn’t and it did grate a bit when they were telling how much they’re enjoying it when I’m working full time from home!

Springersrock · 08/05/2020 22:27

everyone who has covid has to FIGHT FOR THEIR LIVES!!!!

I hate all this fight for their life or battling the disease talk anyway

Did all those who died not fight hard enough?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/05/2020 22:28

Perhaps I should be more worried that one neighbour filmed us all singing ‘We’ll Meet Again’ with me giving it my all with a large glass of Baileys in my hand!

Bollss · 08/05/2020 22:29

But teachers are RISKING THEIR LIVES by going into school dontcha know.

I'd like to know exactly how high that risk is for your average teacher to be honest.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/05/2020 22:34

I understand what you’re saying @Springersrock although I can also understand it in some cases.

My aunt had cancer. As soon as she was diagnosed she gave up for want of a better description. She went into hospital as soon as she was diagnosed and refused all treatment (as was her right) even though she was told it could give her 18 months to 2 years longer. She refused all visitors apart from my Uncle and never came home again.

Please don’t think I’m criticising her, I’m absolutely not, I loved her dearly and still miss her. She did what was right for her but it was as though as soon as she was diagnosed she felt there was no point in doing anything

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/05/2020 22:35

Oh and I meant to say I know cancer and Covid are totally different but I’ve heard the fight comments about cancer as well.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/05/2020 22:36

Magda I just don't understand the outrage at the idea of schools opening when it seems that there is such little risk.

fartingsparkles · 08/05/2020 22:37

@Springers it's the same rhetoric that surrounds cancer - battling, fighting. I hate it.

Did my late DH not fight hard enough and that's why he died? No, he died because his cancer was not detected until it had spread and become incurable. In the same way, those who have 'succumbed' to c19, have done for a variety of reasons, but I don't think a lack of fight comes into it.

Sorry for the slight rant, but it does piss me off.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/05/2020 22:50

I’m sorry about your husband @fartingsparkles and I hope my post didn’t offend you 💐

fartingsparkles · 08/05/2020 22:54

@Pink, not at all! I think we posted at the same time. It is just how different people approach it. We were told from the off that it was incurable, but could be treated, so we went with that

Alsohuman · 08/05/2020 23:04

Dear God, these dementors are exhausting. It’s a shame for them that not being very bright doesn’t confer immunity. They’d all live for ever.

PickAChew · 08/05/2020 23:09

@Orangeblossom78 one of dh's colleagues has the misfortune to have planned his retirement for a couple of weeks ago. He found it surprisingly impossible to stop that particular roller-coaster.

LilacTree1 · 08/05/2020 23:32

Pick sorry, I’ve missed something

Could the chap not retire?

nelsonscolumn · 09/05/2020 00:10

This thread makes me so happy. I was getting to the point of giving up on MN after many years but I have found sanity at last so thank you,

PrettyLittleBrownEyedMe · 09/05/2020 00:26

Thank goodness for this thread and some sensible people with a proportionate view of things. Have had a little cry today at the thought of yet another three weeks of this ludicrous situation and you have all made me feel better and less alone.

MzHz · 09/05/2020 00:49

I have to admit to being close to losing the last shred of sanity these past few days, and now I’ve found this thread!!

Hallefuckinglujah!

Daffodil101 · 09/05/2020 01:03

I queued for twenty minutes outside my local co-op to be allowed inside. There were only two of us. The other customer kept getting really close to me.

I think it’s highly unlikely that you’d catch a virus from walking past somebody asymptomatic in the co op, far more likely you’d catch it from the handle of a shopping basket, however they weren’t cleaning them.

Science, logic, critical thought. All finished

DrearyWallAntler · 09/05/2020 01:05

Dementor spot in the wild:

"Percentages mean nothing. If you're one of the unlucky ones the death rate is 100%."

Is there room for the 'maths guru dementor'?

Willitneverend · 09/05/2020 01:19

@drearywallantler (great name).

That's an interesting one. Back upthread there was a chat about how many people on here had experienced an "out of order" type death in their family, where somebody close to them has died unexpectedly

I suspect another correlation is that people on here have studied maths or statistics and so are better at weighing up risk than the dementors (which I know sounds quite wanky but, i am tired of the relatives dying thing... It is unbearable).

DressingGownofDoom · 09/05/2020 01:25

I'm actually enjoying my coronavirus shopping trips. Oftentimes you get the awkward little pause when you and someone else wants to look at the same shelf, and neither of you knows the protocol and you both just laugh at how odd it all is.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 09/05/2020 02:14

Percentages mean nothing. If you're one of the unlucky ones the death rate is 100%

Grin

In which case by the same token my death rate is 0%, so for me the whole thing is a hoax, and I shall go about my business as usual!

Dommina · 09/05/2020 02:22

My street is noisy! For once! Yes! Am I allowed to be happy about it here?

Also we are finnnnnnaaaalllly doing some house stuff which is too outing so I won't say!! Woo!
Grin

That felt good.

RhymingRabbit3 · 09/05/2020 07:37

Ive just seen:
PP Had a great day. Really lifted the mood

Dementor: How will you lift your mood when there is a virus spike in your road and people die?
