I recently discovered hello fresh and it has been a god send in the current climate. I not only have nice food, but also an activity in he evening (I’m not a natural cook!).

It is expensive though and once the shops return to normal it will be a treat rather than a weekly regular.

But can I ask people ho use it, do you eventually get bored with the choices. And did you ever get the free meal box to send to a friend😊.

Thanks in advance

Cooking your own is far healthier for your families
You are cooking your own. It's not a ready meal.

I buy decent meat but I usually find the Gousto beef pork or lamb mince very good. Fries up nicely and not watery.
But their beef mince recently has been a bit over minced a paste like. I suspect they've had to introduce new suppliers to meet increased demand.
Best thing is Gousto has really got Mr BruceAndNosh interested in cooking beyond steak. And bbq.

@Sunshineandflipflops the have some meals in different price brackets, so you possibly selected a more expensive meal or 2, they'll charge the extra, but it'll still be 50% off as per your discount.

Sunshineandflipflops · 09/05/2020 21:31

Oh, I see! Thank you!

Had a hello fresh meal delivery today and I think they’ve gone downhill. Portion sizes have shrunk and the meals seem to have some wierd mixes.

Today was pulled chicken burgers - however it was done with finely diced chicken thighs so it couldn’t be pulled. Side was coleslaw which was made with carrot and lettuce? No onion/cabbage? And who has burger without a chips I ask... so I had to add potato wedges and onion to the meal, and it was just wierd tbh.

bettybattenburg · 09/05/2020 23:53

The side was crunchy salad and not coleslaw so that's why there wasn't cabbage !

Thank you for contacting HelloFresh!

We’re continuously looking to improve our customer experience. Our new approach to packing our recipe boxes means we will no longer use meal bags but will allow us to provide more benefits to our customers in the near future while also reducing the amount of packaging we use.

Our new box allows us to pack sensitive ingredients like courgettes and peppers away from damaging items like tins. Sensitive items will be packed between the cool pouch and a divider to keep them protected. Other ingredients will be packed in a separate section with heavier items at the bottom and lighter items at the top to prevent damage as much as possible. Smaller items like spice pots and stock powders will be packed into a small cardboard container to make them easier to find and less likely to be damaged.

We are committed to providing fresh, high-quality ingredients to customers. In some instances, we use packaging to keep food fresh and safe to eat, which eliminates food waste. We’re fully aware of the environmental impact that some packaging has and the team is actively addressing this.

We want to make sure the new box works for you so please, tell us what you think by heading to hellofresh.co.uk/newboxfeedback.

I use gousto for 4 nights a week. I saw a deal on Facebook for 50% off for hello fresh so I’ve got a 3 night box order coming from them next week. Not holding out much hope due to the reviews, but it was good value for money, so will give it a go.

I love gousto. Apparently hello fresh don’t put the ingredient measurements on the recipe cards? So may be more of a faff if you want to recreate the recipes yourself. Is this true? Thank you.

mayaginger · 12/05/2020 11:35

Hellp Fresh do put the ingredients measurements on the cards, it tells you the amount for 2,3,4 people.

mayaginger · 12/05/2020 11:39

@ellaalright I looked at Gousto just now and they had several of the Charlie Bingham packs - are they the ready meals or the ingredients?

EllaAlright · 12/05/2020 11:45

Ahh, Thankyou Mayaginger.

They’re the ready meals.

mayaginger · 12/05/2020 11:47

Oh...that's a shame.
I'll take a pic of one of the HF recipe cards in a bit.

selfisolatingsince2007 · 12/05/2020 11:48

We never get bored, we love it. Always lots of new choices.

roses2 · 12/05/2020 11:50

Gousto have all their recipes online so I do the shopping myself at Aldi then follow their recipes - far cheaper and just as tasty!

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 12/05/2020 12:07

@EllaAlright you do get the ingredients twice, once, just what you need and then measurements on the back.
I've attached pics.

Thank you for that. Good to know. I’ve just ordered my next lot of gousto meals, I am finding that I’m struggling with what to order due to their reduced menu, but hopefully they will have a wider menu available soon.

Mammyloveswine · 12/05/2020 14:08

We loved ours! Family pack of 4 meals for 4 was 27.99 half price!

Cancelled after that but going to order again as really enjoyed the one pot Mexican beef and rice! It did a meal plus two lunches!

Mammyloveswine · 12/05/2020 16:13

Omg I got a discount code so used it to set my parents up an account to send them a box and it's somehow fucking linked to my usual account, not applied the discount and charged me 30 quid instead of 9.99! Ffs!

mayaginger · 12/05/2020 16:25

HF customer service is second to none, sure they will refund you. They sent me two boxes in my first week because I messed it but they gave me a full refund for the second box!

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 12/05/2020 16:26

We like HF!

Southwest12 · 12/05/2020 16:32

I signed up to Hello Fresh at the beginning of lockdown and really like it. A couple of times I haven't made the recipe but have put the meat in the freezer so I can do it another day. The only downside was the cod recipe last week, the portion size was very small. I had a missing ingredient one week and they gave me a £5 credit.

FlamingoAndJohn · 12/05/2020 16:47

Can I be the lone voice for Riverford?
We used to get them every weekend and there are lots of recipes that I made first from them that I make still.
All the packaging can be returned to them for recycling and you can add other stuff like veg, fruit and dairy to your order. (In normal times anyway)

Mammyloveswine · 12/05/2020 17:28

@mayaginger they sorted it for me! It must have linked my phone number!

Mammyloveswine · 12/05/2020 17:31

Meals ive ordered for next week 😋
