Frozen pea shortage

Moogletea · 05/05/2020 18:46

Anyone else experiencing issues with finding frozen peas? I've been to 3 supermarkets over the last couple of weeks (as part of essential shopping). I'm buying for three other vulnerable households who all want them and I can't find them for love or money

Am I missing some big pea problem?

there was an item on that on farming today radio programme.
yes, there is a shortage. you might be able to get catering size packets at cash&carry markets, but those are too big for the average freezer drawer.
first harvest is expected mid june: field to shelf about a week if all goes well.

Loads in my area, peanut butter is a whole other story.

DragonMamma · 05/05/2020 18:54

I’ve have no problems getting peas! I usually buy a bag a week and not failed to do so yet.

Saying that, apparently petit pois aren’t available for my Tesco shop this week.

It was reported in the Telegraph the other day - a combination of more people either working from home or furloughed and therefore eating more meals at home rather than at work, and people looking to Jamie Oliver for inspiration.

I had a problem getting frozen peas in my delivery last week but they did have frozen mixes of peas and sweetcorn. Might that be a reasonable substitute?

Btw, I'm not entirely convinced that it's all Jamie Oliver's fault, but here's the article.

Lots in my Asda yesterday

Elouera · 05/05/2020 18:56

You could try tinned peas? Or even edamame beans as an alternative.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 05/05/2020 18:56

Same here - no peas for love nor money. Also no Soft brown baking sugar, out of stock of all brands for my online shop.

H1978 · 05/05/2020 19:39

Definite shortage of brown sugar and chocolate chips, I’m guessing that’s because of all the baking people are doing Confused

Murdernotinparadise · 05/05/2020 19:41

Yes! Frozen peas, frozen sweetcorn and peanut butter. V fussy DS NEEDS peanut butterWink

RainMustFall · 05/05/2020 20:16

You can make peanut butter - have a google and take your pick of which of the recipes you fancy.

Takingabreakagain · 05/05/2020 20:25

I bought frozen peas in my local Tesco today so I wonder if it might be only certain stores that are struggling with stock.
The only item I'm struggling to get now is flour - can't find any at all.

Redskylark · 05/05/2020 20:28

Omg frozen peas are the one thing I would panic buy! We go through loads! I will not be happy if I dont get my peas in my next delivery!

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/05/2020 20:47

I’ve noticed no cauliflower or broccoli

ChasingRainbows19 · 05/05/2020 20:49

funmummy48 · 05/05/2020 20:53

iwantmyownicecreamvan · 05/05/2020 20:54

No frozen sweetcorn here - and eggs in short supply still.

Frownette · 05/05/2020 21:02

Try the corner shop, I got mine from there

maddiemookins16mum · 05/05/2020 21:06

Farmfoods have loads.

eddiemairswife · 05/05/2020 21:17

Won't be long before fresh peas in pods are available, and your children can shell them for you.

HaddawayAndShite · 05/05/2020 21:40

Loads in my area, peanut butter is a whole other story.
Sorry to brag but I got a 700g tub as a sub for a 350g tub in my last shop. Can't get flour, salted butter or eggs for love nor money here.

littlemissalwaystired · 05/05/2020 22:50

Lots in Bath's Morrison's today!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/05/2020 22:55

Eggs are back here (got them in 2 separate C&Cs). Got yeast, too! But no flour & very little rice.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/05/2020 22:55

Oh, & no baking powder or bicarb.

Mrsmadevans · 05/05/2020 23:08

Plenty of everything in Aldi and only thing that was restricted was floor wipes only 4 allowed they had no bread flour either.

ouch321 · 05/05/2020 23:17

I bought the last one the other day in my Morrison's.
Peas are great- 3 mins on the hob and done and you can chuck them in so many dishes.
