Frozen pea shortage

Moogletea · 05/05/2020 18:46

Anyone else experiencing issues with finding frozen peas? I've been to 3 supermarkets over the last couple of weeks (as part of essential shopping). I'm buying for three other vulnerable households who all want them and I can't find them for love or money

Am I missing some big pea problem?

I went to Asda yesterday and they had a lot of frozen peas, cauliflower, broccoli and sweetcorn too except eggs was only few boxes that was left

boatyardblues · 05/05/2020 23:28

You could try tinned peas? Or even edamame beans as an alternative

Oy! Hands off the edamame. They’re hit & miss enough already.

Leflic · 05/05/2020 23:29

Weirdly frozen peas where the only thing in stock in my Tesco today. All price points from cheap label to Tesco To Birds Eye There was a “summer mix” and a single frozen spinach too but literally zero other frozen veg.

I wanted whole green beans, peppers, broad beans, sweet corn and cabbage mix to put in the freezer.

It’s fresh asparagus then, all week. Which is nice but seasonal does get dull when that’s all there is.

Haven't seen flour for ages. Where does our flour come from usually?

fronttoback · 05/05/2020 23:32

If ever there was a guaranteed way to start people panic-buying and actually cause a shortage - this is it.

boatyardblues · 05/05/2020 23:33

There’s no shortage of flour, just a shortage of bags in domestic sizes that mills can pack it in to. I know of people ordering 16kg sacks direct from millers and dividing it up between family/friends.

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2020 23:33

Loads of peanut butter on Amazon. We buy 1 kg tubs of Pip n Nut.

buckeejit · 06/05/2020 00:03

Morrison's have started selling flour from the bakery area - packed in their fresh bakery stuff bags

Northernsoullover · 06/05/2020 00:10

The frozen peas are all in my freezer. I panic bought at the beginning of lockdown. Before I get torn to shreds it was because I was panicking so much at the beginning of the lockdown I wasn't thinking straight with my shopping. I had one on a delivery order, one when I went out and I put stuff including peas my click and collect basket to secure my slot. So I have 3 bloody bags full Blush

Bowerbird5 · 06/05/2020 00:17

DH bought frozen peas last week and a 3 kg bag of SR flour.
I don’t know about peanut butter because we had two jars before lockdown. No problem with eggs here as I live in the country and get large eggs locally and I have just got some more hens bantams to keep my last hen company and they have started laying already.

Agree no dark brown sugar. We looked in three shops. Everyone is baking 😁

Doingtheboxerbeat · 06/05/2020 01:15

One of my locals ran out of petit pois but I got them from a random place I thought would never stock them and they had loads. Glad I clicked on this so I can stockpile Wink.

noodledoodler · 06/05/2020 04:21

Spaghetti hoops, chick peas, chocolate chips, yeast, macaroni, anything with dettol as its brand name, sun pat peanut butter- plenty of other brands available.

Mydogatemypurse · 06/05/2020 04:29

Loads in sainsburys

Oblomov20 · 06/05/2020 05:15

3 bags of peas isn't that much/excessive . I use quite a lot of a big bag of peas for each meal I cook peas, for a family of 4 big eaters.

Fi3ldTrip · 06/05/2020 06:59

We had to buy Pip and Nut and all of us hated it. It’s so oily and runny. We normally have Whole Earth Crunchy and haven’t seen it for weeks. Had to send enclosed pic of my massive Sainsbury peanut butter section to ds who didn’t believe me. It’s like that every week, the only shelf like it.Confused

Plenty of peas round here (last week at least) and flour is starting to come back. The only thing I can't find anywhere is icing sugar - it's DD's birthday at the weekend and I'm hoping to be able to give her a decent cake at least.

bellinisurge · 06/05/2020 07:15

Pea shoots were my first garden "crop" this year - if an old mini brownie box on my window sill counts as a crop. They are dead easy to grow. Will be growing them for actual peas outside this year too.

Use tinned. Grown your own.

dottiedodah · 06/05/2020 07:31

We have lots here (South Coast) Also managed to get flour last week! Some(not many ) eggs .No peanut butter though !

KatherineJaneway · 06/05/2020 07:32

I bought some the other day and there were loads for sale.

Binterested · 06/05/2020 07:36

You are fine because you had two jars of peanut butter before lockdown Confused. That’s about three days’ supply Grin

bellinisurge · 06/05/2020 07:40

Peanut butter in your stash is "general prepper 101" ( if you'll pardon the Americanism). And ours is running low despite this because we all love it so much. ConfusedHmmGrin

Fi3ldTrip · 06/05/2020 07:47

My teenage sons don’t eat a lot of meat protein so crave/ need peanut butter. Only buy sugar free brands. We get three loads. Literally haven’t been able to buy Whole Earth since lock down. Had to use the Pip brand up in biscuits. Sainsbury own organic is an ok substitute but can’t get that either. Only brand left was Sunpat smooth.🤮

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/05/2020 08:00

Peanut butter is really easy to make.

Elouera · 06/05/2020 09:11

Tesco today central London, they had 3 types of frozen peas including petit pois & frozen corn. Bags of Tesco flour, eggs, various pastas and a whole row of different toilet papers!

EatsShootsAndRuns · 06/05/2020 09:16

We're getting eggs delivered today in our Asda shop! Grin
