Favourite Harry Potter characters

Since I’m currently re-reading the HP books in lockdown (first time in over 10 years!) and fancied a a bit of Harry Potter discussion.

My favourites are still all of the Weasley’s, particularly Mr and Mrs Weasley- there’s something so lovable about them as a family.

Ah Mr Weasley is one of my favourites too! He is definitely invited to my dinner party

Soubriquet · 04/05/2020 15:08

I like Bellatrix and Luna

Also Tonks

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/05/2020 15:11

Ginny and Luna. The books though, not the movies. Hate the movies.

Agree about the Weasley's, I also liked Luna for being herself and Professor McGonagall for her twinkle.

fronttoback · 04/05/2020 15:19

Mrs Weasley - especially in the last one when you find out what she's really made of.

Professor McGonagall. Takes zero shit from anyone Grin

Neville Longbottom, an unexpected hero. Who knew he had it in him all the time?

TheCanterburyWhales · 04/05/2020 15:22

Luna and Neville.

snidgetowl · 04/05/2020 15:27

Hermione and Luna. Definitely related to Hermione as a goody two shoes bookish child, and Luna because she was so whimsical and wise.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/05/2020 15:40

Luna. Not caring what people think, just doing her thing.

Neville. Not giving up.

McGonagall. A strong female role model.

Some great female characters in the books. Not just background. Harry couldn't have done it without Hermione, Ginny, Luna, McGonagall... Even Petunia in a way.

heartsonacake · 04/05/2020 15:40

God I hated Luna. She gave me the rage. I’m with Hermione; can’t stand her weirdness.

Loved Hermione, Lucius, Draco, Pansy and Bellatrix.

123feraverto · 04/05/2020 15:47

Dobby!
Hagrid
Bellatrix
Sybill
McGonagal

H1978 · 04/05/2020 16:13

Professor Snape but then I am slytherin Grin

RowenaRavenclawTheSecond · 04/05/2020 16:15

My favourites are Harry and Hermione.

Harry because he is such a normal boy despite who he is/what he has to do. Just a normal teenage boy who can't be bothered with homework, gets detention, loses his temper sometimes, etc. I love that he's not the 'perfect' hero, I think JKR wrote him so well.

Hermione because I related to her so much! She's a great, intelligent female role model who, like Harry, has flaws. I think the fact her characters have believable flaws is one of my favourite things about JKR as a writer!

RowenaRavenclawTheSecond · 04/05/2020 16:18

Also like Draco's character development. Yes he's a little brat and a bully, but I feel he is a victim of his upbringing.

lucialou · 04/05/2020 16:18

Oh yes I love mcgonagall!

@Waxonwaxoff0 I enjoy the films but they don’t do the books justice at all and a lot of the characters just don’t reflect the book ones at all! I did like film Luna though- wasn’t at all how I pictured her in the book but she still fitted well.

Love the Weasley family

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 04/05/2020 16:25

Remus Lupin. Such a good guy Smile

owlalwaysloveyou · 04/05/2020 16:33

Hagrid has got to be one of my favourites. I feel so defensive of him when people claim Harry lost his only father figures with Sirus and Dumbledore. Hagrid introduced Harry to the magical world and loved him like nobody else did. Can you just imagine Hagrid when Harry and Ginny go over for a cuppa and tell them they're having a baby...there must be dust in here, that's why my eyes are watering!

Fifthtimelucky · 04/05/2020 17:31

I'm doing the same thing as you. As a family we have rewatched all the films and one of my daughters and I are re-reading the books. I'm currently on HP and the Order of the Phoenix.

I agree about the Weasleys: my favourites are Molly, Fred and George. Other favourite characters are Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Lupin, Tonks and Hermione.

Scruffyoak · 04/05/2020 17:40

Mr weasley!

PeppaisaBitch · 04/05/2020 17:45

I find the movies have ruined a lot of characters. The child actors were all so shit. My faves at the time were Fred and George, they were awful in the film. I also liked dobby. I really love to hate umbridge.

Snape is the worst. He is not a good person.
Dumbledore is infuriating just tell harry what you mean.
Hagrid is a fucking liability
Harry is the worst. He is a moody prick who is actual quite passive. He's just a conduit for the plot. The whole series should be re-named Hermione and the ... ps Harry helps a bit.

PeppaisaBitch · 04/05/2020 17:46

Also how was Sirius a father figure. He spent max 3 weeks of his life with him and sent him a few letters. You can't build that kind of bond in that time.

heartsonacake · 04/05/2020 17:48

Snape is the worst. He is not a good person.

Here’s someone who didn’t understand the books.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 04/05/2020 17:49

My user name says it all 💔

PeppaisaBitch · 04/05/2020 17:52

I do understand the books. But have you reread the first books recently. He is such a massive prick to Harry, Neville pretty much everyone. He is abusive to them.
He did what he did for the wrong reason. He joined the death eaters willing in the first place. Good people don't do that. And even though he was brave and blah blah he can still be an absolute dick.

lazylinguist · 04/05/2020 17:57

Here’s someone who didn’t understand the books.

Umm nope. Snape was a Death Eater. He only stopped being one because the married woman he was obsessed with was Voldemort's target. He didn't give a toss about her husband or child being killed and only agreed to protect Harry because Dumbledore persuaded him to. He's an awful teacher and a vindictive, unpleasant bully. He's brave and he ends up doing the right thing, but he's a horrible person nevertheless.
