Favourite Harry Potter characters

Since I’m currently re-reading the HP books in lockdown (first time in over 10 years!) and fancied a a bit of Harry Potter discussion.

My favourites are still all of the Weasley’s, particularly Mr and Mrs Weasley- there’s something so lovable about them as a family.

This is what I mean! I'm so glad you put it so well. I hate all the Snape love.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 04/05/2020 17:58

PeppaisaBitch · 04/05/2020 17:59

I’m not a Snape fan, but his life was a tragedy. Anyway, you can’t argue with stupid so we’ll leave it at that.

IdblowJonSnow · 04/05/2020 18:04

Luna, Ron, Snape and the teacher with the crystal ball, Trelawney?

DonnaDarko · 04/05/2020 18:05

I don't think your favourite characters have to be just the good ones. The ones that surprised me, made me laugh or were just bloody entertaining are:

Luna Lovegood
Fred & George Weasley
Bellatrix Lestrange
Dolores Umbridge

I can't wait to read them with DS one day. He's still only 3 so we have a few years to wait!

7Days · 04/05/2020 18:07

I would live them to make a big lavish series of HP. We are in the golden age of television after all.

It could be like The Wire...with broomstick.

PerspicaciaTick · 04/05/2020 18:11

Neville. Always.

PeppaisaBitch · 04/05/2020 18:11

I think a tv show would be good. But maybe a prequel. I'd be quite interested to see James and lily At school or even maybe Bill Weasley at school.

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 04/05/2020 18:12

I love keacher. Especially when he goes after Mundungus.

BlueBooby · 04/05/2020 18:13

Mrs McGonagall hands down is the best character ever. No question and no arguments.

I quite liked Hermione but I hope that she comes to her senses and LTB. Unless Ron has got over his jealousy.

I'd have liked to learn more about Narcissa. I found her interesting.

Liked the characters but not the personalities of Umbridge, Trewlany and Bellatrix.

Special mention to Hagrid for being a lovely guy.

Least favourite character was Ginny. I always found something lacking. Though I do appreciate that her relationship with Harry did not take over the series and the focus remained on his friendships instead.

nuttymomma · 04/05/2020 18:18

Paws off Padfoot, he's mine

I also love Dumbledore

And McGonagall kicks ass

Also had a wee cheer at "not my daughter you bitch!"

PeppaisaBitch · 04/05/2020 18:25

I'm interested to hear why people like the characters. Especially Sirius. He's a bit nothing to me.

lucialou · 04/05/2020 18:28

I’m not a fan of Snape either, also not a fan of James Potter and the marauders either though.

Love Minerva Mcgonagall and Lupin, Weasley twins and Hermione. Love Alan Rickman swishing about contemptuously in black, but not sure Snape is actually supposed to be that sexy,

lazylinguist · 04/05/2020 18:39

McGonagall is my favourite. I love the relationship she has with Harry. And Dumbledore. Even though he's very flawed in various ways, I can't help seeing him through Harry's eyes. I love the contrast between the benign, twinkly-eyed eccentric Dumbledore and the formidable Dumbledore radiating power. Book Dumbledore obviously, not film Dumbledore.

Minesril · 04/05/2020 18:58

I hate mrs weasley.

Love lupin and luna.

PeppaisaBitch · 04/05/2020 19:29

What's to hate about Mrs Weasley?

OverlyLeafy · 04/05/2020 19:40

I really love Luna's character; just absolutely herself and not afraid what people think, although I haven't got to her yet (reading them again and on The Goblet of Fire currently).

I just read the part where Malfoy's curse accidentally hit Hermione and her teeth grow down to her collar. Snape says "I see no difference" and Hermione cries. What a nasty prick.

Rita Skeeter gave me the rage and is having the same effect now.

ofwarren · 04/05/2020 19:44

I love Luna and Professor Trelawney. Both weirdly brilliant.

Ilovecats14 · 04/05/2020 20:01

Bellatrix! Love the actress!

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/05/2020 20:18

Lupin, Tonks and Luna in the books.

In the films Belatrix

RowenaRavenclawTheSecond · 05/05/2020 00:05

Yes, the Snape love gets out of hand for some people. Yes, he is extremely brave and he is on the right side. His life was horribly tragic.

But ultimately, he believed all the pureblood bullshit until it got his love killed. He couldn't change for her until it was too late.

He joined Dumbledore to assuage his own guilt. Don't even get me started on the way he treated Neville and Hermione, his STUDENTS who were completely innocent and were in his care.

Unrequited love doesn't excuse that.
