£30 to spend on 'something' you WANT

My 90 year old grandmother has sent me £30 (cheque- I'll have to actually go to a bank Shock) and asked me to buy myself something - just for me - and write to her to let her know what I've chosen.

It's lovely and I love writing to her but I'm stumped about where to start. I don't ever buy clothing online and am normally a 'browser'. Under normal circumstances I'd have probably gone to Flying Tiger and picked up a few kitschy bits, or some candles. I rarely buy myself something just to cheer myself up, am far more likely to buy something for the kids!

It got me thinking, if you had £30 (just £30- no more!) what would buy?

-gel nail kit to do nails at home-Amazon
-Brazilian blow dry kit to do same -Amazon
-embroidery kit-John Lewis (other craft kits are available)
-Cheese Geek hamper of cheese
-electric oil vaporiser and essential oils/nice candle

All things I have bought or bought for me recently :)

Me: pliers, tile cutter, or yarn, lots of yarn.

That's so sweet, I love how your granny just new you needed that. Mine used to hide money in her fist then squeeze it into my hand as I kissed her when I was leaving.

I always struggle to spend cash gifts of gift cards. I feel like I need to make the absolute right decision to do the giver justice, if that makes sense, I feel so much pressure to make the right decision!

I recently spent £20 on a range of bedding plants from a local nursery and they've given me a lot of joy through lockdown. £20 went so far and I planted 2 beds, 4 pots and a hanging basket.

I would maybe buy a little tree or rose bush next and enjoy watching it bloom and grow.

With a gift card a got for Christmas I bought a great big photo album from tk maxx

Do your granny and you have any shared interests?

qate · 05/05/2020 14:02

An "The Art of" book about a movie - they do a great range of coffee table style books for Star Wars/Harry Potter/Pixar depending on what you're into. Pricey for a day to day treat so I save them Christmas requests.

Giggorata · 05/05/2020 14:10

I'd buy some essential oils, for use in burners, sprays or carrier oil.
Lemon and peppermint, because they deter spiders, and frankincense or sandalwood because they smell divine.

I second the suggestion of a PP of a bird feeding table. I love mine and, although we've got a cat, she's too old and lazy to catch anything. I've had great tits on my nuts

brentwoodbaby · 05/05/2020 17:32

Thanks for all your great suggestions!

I paid my cheques in using the HSBC app on Monday morning and they cleared this morning! Amazing!

I've just ordered myself a new dressing gown taking inspiration from all the self care themed posts AND a cute little bird feeder so I can sit and think of my lovely Nanny in my garden whilst I can't visit her.

Duckswaddle · 05/05/2020 20:24

Dior lip glow

Rebelwithallthecause · 05/05/2020 20:24

Excellent choices 😊

angelfacecuti75 · 05/05/2020 22:34

I don't know what I'd spend it on perhaps a new top or cardigan or nice skincare (am currently loving the bodyshop and their aloe vera sheet masks ). Just a thought though sometimes you can pay cheques in online if you have the bank's app by taking a picture of the back /front.

angell74 · 07/05/2020 12:01

I would buy a plant for the garden. My Grandma passed a few years ago but every Spring the bulbs she gave me for my birthday just before she died come out and remind me of her.

queenbeekaye44 · 10/05/2020 23:33

A keepsake to remind you of her. Maybe a bracelet, earrings or necklace or something.

Isthisreallylife · 11/05/2020 00:07

Definitely pretty matching undies! Always cheers me up! No one can see but I know that I’m all matching underneath! 😂😂

JustStayHome · 11/05/2020 00:21

Glad you've chosen OP.

I would of got socks and a cosy blanket.

Iv just put in a Tesco order for my 85 year old nan and added all the things she loves, chocolate, sweets, crisps, biscuits, scones, clotted cream, jam, icecream, fancy yogurts, cream cakes....
Miss her loads.

Hope you get to see your gran soon OP
