£30 to spend on 'something' you WANT

My 90 year old grandmother has sent me £30 (cheque- I'll have to actually go to a bank Shock) and asked me to buy myself something - just for me - and write to her to let her know what I've chosen.

It's lovely and I love writing to her but I'm stumped about where to start. I don't ever buy clothing online and am normally a 'browser'. Under normal circumstances I'd have probably gone to Flying Tiger and picked up a few kitschy bits, or some candles. I rarely buy myself something just to cheer myself up, am far more likely to buy something for the kids!

It got me thinking, if you had £30 (just £30- no more!) what would buy?

Aw, what a thoughtful gift!
What about a multi picture frame? Nan's picture in the middle?
A subscription to a hobby magazine? It is so nice to get in the post.
A lovely cuddly throw to wrap up in?
If you sew, a fabulous pair of scissors, if you garden, a fancy garden pot, if you like to read actual books, a whole series of your favourite author?

Emma Bridgewater cocoa mug and some luxurious hot chocolate; and a good book!!

Bumsmet · 03/05/2020 20:58

BikeRunSki · 03/05/2020 21:00

Silver jewellery from somewhere like Lizzie Lane

GoBackToPartyCity · 03/05/2020 21:03

A Zara/Jo Malone collab candle, a foundation from The Ordinary as I’ve wanted to try one for a while and a bottle of Pinot blush.

Moltenpink · 03/05/2020 21:06

I’ve just bought myself a fancy new pillow and I’m very excited about it

Ive just bou*ht a beautiful arbour for the garden so I’d buy a couple of outdoor cushions and some solar lights for it.

Ninkanink · 03/05/2020 23:09

A lipstick from Dior.

BrandoraPaithwaite · 03/05/2020 23:15

A book that's just come out (instead of waiting til they get cheaper after a while)

Some plants, a good looking watering can.

Megan2018 · 03/05/2020 23:22

I posted a cheque the other day as Nationwide don’t do the photo thing yet. Paid in fine, just took about a week from sending.

I’d buy clothes with it, or something lovely for my bedroom. But I do all my shopping online so that’s easy for me Smile

Candyflosscookie · 03/05/2020 23:31

I would buy a gift voucher for an afternoon tea somewhere lovely for when we can go out and enjoy things like that again. Something to look forward to and helps a business in the meantime.
You could even take her along Wink

Athenajm80 · 03/05/2020 23:48

If you like coffee, then an aeropress would be my choice. I bought one recently and will never use a cafetiere again

frenchfancy81 · 04/05/2020 00:29

You can probably pay your cheques in on your phone via your banking app. I have HSBC and Natwest accounts and they both enable you to pay cheques in this way.

I'd buy perfume!

frenchfancy81 · 04/05/2020 00:30

But some nice books/a journal/nice toiletries/bottle of wine and mini pamper kit.

Weighted blanket. I really must get one.

DKanin · 04/05/2020 01:09

I can't get over this new idea of paying in a cheque online!
That's really sweet of her - what about loungewear, a luxury blanket or hot water bottle case or some lovely mugs and teapot? Things you can enjoy using at home a lot now and will be nice to have around

Purpletigers · 04/05/2020 01:21

I’d buy a plant or tree for my garden. You’d have it for ever .

Holothane · 04/05/2020 01:27

Face cream from the body shop, a new throw. A blu ray series I’ve wanted.

Rainb0w · 04/05/2020 10:54

A nice lighter jumper to wrap up in on my daily walks on cooler days
