£30 to spend on 'something' you WANT

brentwoodbaby · 03/05/2020 20:17

My 90 year old grandmother has sent me £30 (cheque- I'll have to actually go to a bank Shock) and asked me to buy myself something - just for me - and write to her to let her know what I've chosen.

It's lovely and I love writing to her but I'm stumped about where to start. I don't ever buy clothing online and am normally a 'browser'. Under normal circumstances I'd have probably gone to Flying Tiger and picked up a few kitschy bits, or some candles. I rarely buy myself something just to cheer myself up, am far more likely to buy something for the kids!

It got me thinking, if you had £30 (just £30- no more!) what would buy?

Order a luxury candle online. I would buy a True Grace candle or Imperial Candle

BarbaraofSeville · 04/05/2020 11:02

£25 for the Northumberland Cheese May Bonanza box leaves a fiver left over for some wine to go with, posh crackers, flowers, a book or some nice chocolate.

FanSaBhaile · 04/05/2020 11:04

I'd buy some Clarins hand cream, counteract all the hand washing.

listsandbudgets · 04/05/2020 11:04

upmarket toiletries somethng like l'occtaine or Molton Brown. Showers seem to be the only place I get peace and quiet at the moment so luxury while I'm in there would be nice.

IndigoApple · 04/05/2020 11:23

A jigsaw and a bottle of gin.

I got a £50 amazon voucher from work as a 'treat' bonus (after doing about 30 hours unpaid overtime on a project for them so not much of a bonus really but that's another story).

I'd worked bloody hard on it so was determined to treat myslef rather than just spending them on the kids. I pre-ordered 2 new books from 2 of my favourite authors. They weren't out for a while after I'd ordered them so was a nice 'surprise' when the turned up at my door on their first day after release!

I’ve treated myself to the Neal’s Yard cheesebox as this month’s payday treat, I’d never normally spend that’s much on cheese in one go, but I’m really looking forward to it!

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 04/05/2020 11:48

A weighted lavender eye pillow for relaxation and to help me sleep better

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 04/05/2020 11:56

A Dior mascara or a nice new nail polish with a top quality top coat (Opi is great)

Frownette · 04/05/2020 11:56

Did you pay in online OP? I had no idea you could do that either.

I really like a pair of silver/enamel earrings which I've been admiring in a shop window for £28, then a couple of chocolate bars.

starsinyourpies · 04/05/2020 11:56

I've just ordered a bath tray (£35) to hold my iPad and cup of tea in the bath! Just need a lock for the bathroom door now.

Easilyanxious · 04/05/2020 12:09

Halifax allows you to pay cheques online also it's a great way of doing .
The : £30 maybe a new item of clothing if needed anything or shoes as easily available online , or if your into reading a few books or a nice bottle of perfume , or a price of jewellery

Sparkle733 · 04/05/2020 12:11

New pair of pjs

Rebelwithallthecause · 04/05/2020 12:25

Paying in cheques online?! Does anyone know if this is possible with Natwest?

TokyoSushi · 04/05/2020 12:36

I bought this the other day, it's so comfy and a bargain! www.joules.com/Women/Clothing/Presley/Slim-Fit-Sweatshirt?size=10&id=207658|GREYDOG|10

BearSoFair · 04/05/2020 12:42

I love the bird feeding station idea! Wouldn't work for us with 2 cats (and next door with 2 too) but I think that'd be a lovely thing to have.

I'd get a nice hand cream and some Whittards dreamtime tea.

BasilDiffuser · 04/05/2020 12:45

I got a £30 check from my auntie for my birthday which I paid online!
I got three bath foams from Tropic. I would never usually treat myself to something like that but it’s so indulgent and gives me something to look forward to on bath night.

Bienentrinkwasser · 04/05/2020 12:54

A Neal’s Yard room spray or Remedies to Roll Kit. Not something I’d ever spend my own money on but something I’d love to have.

Aebj · 04/05/2020 12:56

Bath bombs , a book , a bottle of wine , chocolate or pjs

blankethog · 04/05/2020 13:03

A new charm for my pandora bracelet or a lounge set probably. If it had to spent on me. If not I'd pay it off my new high end laptop I've bought for myself on credit, does that count? Haha

Ughmaybenot · 04/05/2020 13:03

God that is such a lovely thing for her to do 💗
Id go for a bottle of Prosecco, a good book and a hair mask/treatment.

dottiedodah · 04/05/2020 13:10

What about some lovely Neals Yard ?Hand wash/hand cream? I love the gerinium and orange smell. And my cheese grater hands have greatly improved as well! Otherwise scented chocolates/expensive chocolate peppermint creams . Bubble Bath or a pretty bead necklace .These are all some of my favourites .As far as your cheque goes ,I dont use mobile banking, but had to go to the bank Aggrh! and only 4 people allowed in at a time ,took Handwash and cleaned hands before and after having to pay actual cash in!

Ninkanink · 04/05/2020 17:06

Ohhhh I know what I’d get!!

Something from here:

www.edinburghskincare.com/product-category/luxury-gifting/page/3/

Perhaps this solid hand cream in a pretty tin.

And a set of lip balms.

Or for just a touch more than the gifted amount, a gift set.

There are lots of lovely things to choose from.

A decent sports bra! My old one fit me pre-baby and all through pregnancy , 8 months later..,,,,my boobs are actually coming out at the sides , they look like water balloons being squashed and I can’t even fasten it properly...

Guacamole · 04/05/2020 17:42

That’s so sweet of her. I would probably buy myself a nice houseplant and a bar of chocolate.
