.Example here of someone seeking reassurance and asking something reasonable "have we overreacted?" and getting abuse

It’s dementor bingo folks! If you get a full house you win a non essential shopping item!

Are you ready?

  1. Biscuit emoji - check!
  2. Calling the OP “stupid”- check!
  3. PEOPLE ARE DYING - check!
  4. Someone who has 37 relatives on the front line who tell them ghastly stories daily about how awful it is- check!
  5. Blatant disregard for anyone who expresses mental health issues and accusations they don’t care that PEOPLE ARE DYING - check!
  6. Quick mention of people not following lockdown rules- check!

Congrats! You win a curly wurly 👍

Russellbrandshair · 04/05/2020 07:35

Oh and last but not least:

  1. We are the worst country in the world and have more deaths than anyone else. We are all doomed being British and should feel ashamed of ourselves- check!
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/05/2020 07:36

The thought of all these frustrated dementors in Australia having nothing to dement about has completely made my day.
Grin

Willitneverend · 04/05/2020 07:46

I saw someon upthread mentioned the Scottish exceptionalism dementors. I've got a lot of them on my FB and they are bonkers. They're always going on about how the Scottish Government is handling things so much better than the UK government and sometimes rant about closing the border.

Apart from some minor policy differences I'm really not sure why they think we're doing things so much better! It doesn't make any sense. Ironically, there's a high correlation between these people and people posting about other people breaking THE RULES.

Tappering · 04/05/2020 08:00

The thread about wondering how many dead bodies there will be, is just nasty. It's not even serving a purpose - just plain old catastrophising which is designed to frighten the hell out of people.

Bollss · 04/05/2020 08:01

It's like they want it to be really bad isn't it? Like they actively want there to be thousands of unnoticed dead bodies. To prove their point?!

And some of them have the cheek to say it's us that have some kind of problem and that were sick or wouldn't know empathy if it slapped us in the face.

I am certain (and I say that as someone who has previously struggled with anxiety) that at least some of these people actually probably need help. It's not normal to think it behave like this. Anxiety is a very slippery slope.

Orangeblossom78 · 04/05/2020 08:05

Oh are we getting some kind of Dementor backlash?

Orangeblossom78 · 04/05/2020 08:10

Sick / lack of empathy...hmm think that is about Dementors, no?

Anyway, moving on, in the news today...

Coronavirus: Don’t ask us to enforce looser social distancing, say police

Relaxed lockdown restrictions will be “impossible to police” and requiring officers to carry out further enforcement risks damaging their relationship with the public, police chiefs argue.

Once the public are given greater freedoms, such as seeing more friends and returning to work, they should be relied upon to do the right thing, while officers refocus on crime, chief constables have said.

One told The Times: “If people are allowed to meet up with a circle of up to ten people, we shouldn’t be asked to police that. How ridiculous is that? It would be impossible to police. We are in discussion with the government on what we can do but there is going to have to be a different approach.”

Good.

rookiemere · 04/05/2020 08:10

Oh yes Willitneverend I'm in Scotland too and lots of FB posters using this as an opportunity to shove Scottish independence down my nose, by pointing out how much better SNO is doing than Bojo ( it's always personalised never fact based). Bypassing the ex CMO who decided that the proles need to keep to the rules, but she's fine to trot off to her second home.

To be fair Nicola is doing a good job and she is good at conveying a plain message in times of trouble, but I find it confusing that we have a different announcement than England and feel if ever we could be doing with a single UK wide series of messages this would be the time to do it.

Anyway sorry didn't mean to make this marvellous thread political. I have joined a FB running challenge for May and I'm absolutely loving it as people are posting up pictures of where they have been on their run, and there are so many gorgeous parts of the UK that I've never thought of visiting before that are definitely on my list for when I can.

Orangeblossom78 · 04/05/2020 08:11

Sounds like they are as fed up with it as the rest of us

Bollss · 04/05/2020 08:13

Wholeheartedly agree. They cannot police it and they have more important things to do.

There will always be people who do what the fuck they want, of course. Most people will do as theyre told.

I would much prefer them to deal with actual real crime.

To be honest after week 1 I have seen little to no police presence anyway!

rookiemere · 04/05/2020 08:19

I feel so sorry for the Police. I saw them having to ask a Mum, Dad and baby to get up from the Meadows ( nice grassy area) on a sunny day a few weeks ago. The family weren't near anyone and were doing no harm, there were also two policemen at the corner of a walk that I go on with the dog and on that occasion with teenage DS - felt like a hardened criminal even though we're in the same family, DDog was on a lead ( at that point as there were horses in the field) and I pick up the poo and everything.

It's going to be very hard to ease back to a new normality from this, and I can see why some people like the brutal simplicity of STAY THE F AT HOME - SAVE LIVES, so much simpler than - well if you go to the Drive thru Costa and follow social distancing rules, chances of you catching it are 0.05% and then if you do catch it, chances of it being serious if you're under X age, X BMI with no underlying health conditions is Y%. My view is that if these things are opened, the risks are minimal to me - not that I drink Costa Coffee anyway.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 04/05/2020 08:28

I enjoyed this post on another thread (from an Irish poster):

After speaking to my GP after a recent visit I am thankful that I am not living there. She reckoned if we were living in the UK, we’d have got it.

See, you can tell here that the UK's health system really is the worst because my GP is just a GP whereas this poster's is a GP and a soothsayer.

I love this Grin

Teateaandmoretea · 04/05/2020 08:31

It is, but lockdown isn’t living. If for example we locked down for 2 years everyone loses 1/40 of their life. That is not proportionate to the risk at population level of dying from covid.

Those who wish to stay in for 2 years can anyway, there will be no police going door to door getting people to go out.

Tappering · 04/05/2020 08:32

Didn't soothsayers traditionally look at entrails? Call me fussy but I'll stick with my own GP Grin

Bwahahaha, wow- a GP thats also a psychic! How incredible that he can exactly predict what would happen if the OP lived in a parallel universe, is that a module at med school?

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 04/05/2020 08:36

she not he

Mikki2019 · 04/05/2020 08:37

@rookiemere they’ll be keener when the furlough money stops

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 04/05/2020 08:39

I honestly think they think furlough will last into next year. As if the government are just going to pay everyone's wages for the next 12 months. All they have to do is pluck the £50 notes from their magic money tree! there is an endless supply apparently

rookiemere · 04/05/2020 08:52

To be fair, when the furlough money stops, I doubt anyone will be rushing to Costa for a £2.50 coffee ( or whatever it costs) Grin.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/05/2020 09:13

I LOLed today at 'the second wave is predicted to be worse than the first.'
Yes, it is predicted. By Mumsnetters.
It's so splendid, the authority with which people type complete shit.

sonjadog · 04/05/2020 09:24

Did you see the poster who said what was written on MN was so important as the government looked to MN for guidance in making policy? I think that poster might be disappointed there...

ThatLibraryMiss · 04/05/2020 10:02

they’ll be keener when the furlough money stops

I reckon they'll be furious that the gubmunt is no longer paying them to sit on the sofa watching Netflix carrying out its duty to protect its citizens. GPs will be besieged with perfectly healthy people demanding long-term sick notes for anxiety.

OutwardBound2016 · 04/05/2020 10:11

Now an entire thread dedicated to long term health implications that MIGHT happen IF you get the virus. The particular poster doesn’t seem to give a shit about how this might make people feel who have to go out to work, those who suffer with anxiety and mostly those who have had it mildly (aka liars!).
