@EngagedAgain
I started doing jigsaws a couple of years ago to fill a few dark and rainy evenings and weekends. I tend to pick them up from charity shops when they catch my eye, and I hold onto them until I am in the right mood to do them.

Pre lockdown I would do one every month or so but the frequency has definitely increased in the past few weeks.

I am hoping to avoid buying any brand new ones as there are so many good ones in the charity shops. However if things continue for a while longer I may need to get some more via online shopping I guess.

Some puzzles have a lot more appeal than others. I have to like the picture and the quality of the pieces makes a big difference too.

I go through phases, *Engagedagain. I bought a new one just before lockdown and I already have a couple I haven’t done yet, but the pieces are rubbish quality on those.

I might have to dig out some old ones I haven’t done for a while next.

I have the above to store puzzles in progress. Goes under the sofa and fits 1000 piece puzzles.

White Mountain was the State Flowers Stamps puzzle. Ravensburger the house one.State Flowers didn’t fit on the board I linked to though, it’s an American company.Had to live on dining room table for a few days.

Coco, Rafals and Too much, thank you. Also, Coco, Magic soul sounds good, I don't listen to radio much, but when I do it's usually Magic! To the pp who asked about porta puzzle - I do know someone who has one and they say they are good. Expect other pp's would know more.

Fi3ldTrip · 02/05/2020 08:23

Have these two to get me through the rest of lock down.

@AmelieTaylor, that's amazing a 20,000 piece. I wonder how big it would be, or maybe the pieces are alot smaller to allow for the fact it would be huge otherwise.

Nunyabusiness · 02/05/2020 08:34

Another vote for the porta puzzle, I have one and it's fab as I can fold it up with all my sorted out pieces and pick back up whenever I like.

I'm a big fan of the wasgij puzzles, but at the moment I am doing this bad boy and it is driving me insane

This was 1000 pieces and took us a bit under two weeks. Magnifying glass came in handy. Was from a painting in the national museum (Australia).

Third vote for the portapuzzle. I’ve got a tiny flat and it’s much more convenient. Got it just before lockdown and can see myself spending more time doing puzzles even after it’s over.

Nonagoninfinity · 02/05/2020 09:01

I just wanted to jump on and say a huge thank you for the porta puzzle recommendation. I have a couple of puzzles I've been itching to do but no space to have one out all the time (and a cat that likes to sit in puzzle boxes). I've ordered one from Hobbycraft and can't wait for it to arrive. I was looking on Amazon yesterday and couldn't believe the price of some of them. I had previously tried roll up mats but with no joy. Thank you!

RainMustFall · 02/05/2020 11:18

Bloodylovecheese I agree, I've just recently finished that Harry Potter puzzle and although the photographs were fairly easy, the frames took forever. It says 'Impossible' on the box - they were nearly right.

I'm a Ravensburger fan, especially the ones painted by Colin Thompson, very detailed - I usually buy from Amazon.

AmelieTaylor · 02/05/2020 12:05

@EngagedAgain

Thus is a different one I quite fancy. It's 'only' 18,000 though

276x192cm

I have NOWHERE to do it

Maybe on a board in the spare room after Lockdown. Well as long as no one wants to come to stay for a very long time!

Found my people!
I have just ordered a new one.
While I wait for it to come, I'm going to redo my Gibson's sweet memories.

I've done quite a few on this thread- the large house upstairs downstairs one, the bookshop one & I love autumn.

RainMustFall · 02/05/2020 12:32

There's a great youtube video of a bloke doing a 42,000 piece jigsaw, speeded up, of course.

MadisonAvenue · 02/05/2020 16:22

I’ve finished this one this afternoon, it’s a cheap King one from Amazon, £8.99 for 2x 1000 piece puzzles.

Courtney2020 · 02/05/2020 18:26

@Nunyabusiness I'm currently doing the trolls version on your puzzle and feel like I'm getting nowhere so had to take a little break.

Nunyabusiness · 02/05/2020 19:04

@Courtney2020 I'm doing a little bit every few days, literally matching 5 or 6 pairs at a time - it's going to take me the rest of the year, I'm sure!

EngagedAgain · 02/05/2020 22:39

@AmelieTaylor
Thanks, goodness, never realised some were that big. Bit mind boggling. Wonder how long it would take? Might watch the video another pp mentioned, it probably says how long it takes.

bettybattenburg · 03/05/2020 10:00

Thank you persona for pointing me in the direction of this thread. Reading now for suggestions Smile

AnnieCartwright · 03/05/2020 10:00

I'm currently addicted to the Jigsaw Planet website.

zebrapig · 03/05/2020 10:10

I've just finished this one. It's taken me about 2 weeks as it needed daylight to see the colours properly and most of my free time is on the evenings!

Another vote for the portapuzzle here, makes it easy to keep out of reach of little hands and slides under the sofa.

Wasgij are my favourite, just ended up bidding on one on eBay as a result of this thread!

AmelieTaylor · 03/05/2020 10:30

@EngagedAgain

I think 'how long' is the same as 'how long is a piece of string'. I'm more of a 'mooched' with JP's - it's very addictive when I'm doing it, but I don't need to do it every day etc
I also struggle more with my eyesight these days, so it definitely takes longer now! I have just got glasses 🤓 but can't get them sorted now until after lock down, but hopefully they'll help

But 20,000....'fucking forever' springs to mind🤣 the first part probably would be well faded before I finished!!

EngagedAgain · 03/05/2020 10:55

Amelie, yes those mega ones must be quite a challenge!

Zebrapig,
That really is a lovely scene. They are all great though and I never realised how nice jigsaws are now.

Cocolapew · 03/05/2020 11:06

I take a couple of weeks to do them, I go back a few times in the day to do it, I don't sit for hours (I can't, I'm too old Sad).
Though I've noticed, since I've managed to do a couple, I'm more inclined to try to spend longer.
Sometimes I have to go away and come back, because I can't see where anything goes if I stare at it for too long!
