He's exactly what I need in these strange times, so calming
Plus he has a new dog!

Love Monty but also really like Adam as well especially find him calming, I think he’s being groomed to take over from Monty in the future.

mencken · 25/04/2020 11:34

the filming is really professional given he's doing it himself.

Nigel (and Nellie) still fine. He's bought a rat on a string for some reason.

rosegoldwatcher · 25/04/2020 11:43

We always watch Gardeners' World in bed, with a cup of tea, early on Saturday morning. I look forward to his melodious, "Hello!" at the beginning of every programme.
I love Monty. I think he has got more attractive with age.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 25/04/2020 11:45

AARGH I cant stand Monty and his affected outfits and scarf draping

apples24 · 25/04/2020 12:00

We watch it every Saturday morning at around 6am when my toddler wakes up. Such a relaxing way to start a weekend. We're huge Monty fans here too, love all the regular cast members actually!

FiveShelties · 25/04/2020 12:09

Love the programme - unfortunately it is always around six months out of date when I watch it in NZ. So pleased Nigel is OK.Grin

rosegoldwatcher · 25/04/2020 19:17

@NoMorePoliticsPlease - Eh?
Monty is always dressed in his gardening trousers and a chunky sweater on GW!
I would happily be Constance to his Mellors!

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/04/2020 19:20

He does nothing for me but whatever gets you through Grin

Davros · 25/04/2020 19:25

I'm sure I've detected a draped scarf sometimes

Parkandride · 25/04/2020 19:49

Had a wine, started a thread and forgot about it.

The new dog will need to win me over, I noticed Monty kept a tight hold on her I worry she could be a flower bed digger. I hope she's not bothering Nigel in his retirement

I love Gardener's World, it's like a half hour of meditation for me Smile

Slychomping · 26/04/2020 09:45

I think the draped scarf featured on his travel progs? He tends to wear practical stuff when digging etc. And fwiw he is distinctly unaffected when it comes to his gardening; he was the first TV gardener, I think, to show us mistakes and discuss why something died or didn't grow.

Whatevah · 26/04/2020 09:51

Ha ha! I meant downloaded or whatever you call it these days.
Taped slips out sometimes.

AvalancheKit · 26/04/2020 09:51

He’s great. Very calming.

BennyBoo2008 · 26/04/2020 23:59

I don't think Monty would like to hear you refer to Patti as a rat on string even if you are only joking!

VenusClapTrap · 27/04/2020 10:50

No, he is a bit humourless. A friend of mine tweeted something gently funny to him about the horticultural society she is chair of, and although he responded it was clear he either didn’t get the joke or didn’t find it funny. I also met him at a talk/book signing thing, and thought he took himself very seriously!

Slychomping · 27/04/2020 11:23

Oh no, I always think he looks as though he has a bit of a twinkle in the eye... .

Parkandride · 27/04/2020 13:44

Less of that clap trap @VenusClapTrap we will have no Monty bashing here. Of course he must take himself seriously when he is the national soother of worried minds, big responsibility

Grin Sorry!
#Team Adam

TinklyLittleLaugh · 27/04/2020 15:47

Monty is no Mellors though; he is well posh. A gentleman gardener.

TiddleTaddleTat · 27/04/2020 15:51

He's a bit posh for me, but I like his massive hands. Everything is big and chunky - have you seen his giant plant labels?!

I quite liked Frosty's gardeners world episodes recently. I get a bit fed up of Monty's kind of absurd series of gardens - the jewel garden, the writing garden etc. I mean it's aspirational, but not very realistic for most of us.

Sarcelle · 27/04/2020 16:13

Amazing to think he used to design costume jewellery before he was a gardener. I remember the Monty Don brand as I am an old bird.

Sarcelle · 27/04/2020 16:15

MD back in the day with his shiny bits....

Thank God for Monty Don
rosegoldwatcher · 27/04/2020 18:04

Thanks for the photo Sarcelle
It confirms my belief that he has improved with age!

justtakeatowel · 27/04/2020 18:09

Slightly off thread but glad I'm not the only one to say tapes!!
