I have very mixed feelings over this film but it' decent entertainment. DH has never watched it and is suitably 'wtf is this'. Grin

Anyone read any of the conspiracy theories about the film? 🤯

Triglesoffy · 20/04/2020 08:34

No lord and you have to tell us now!

Lordfrontpaw · 20/04/2020 09:32

Once seen can’t be unseen (red pill/blue pill scenario) you’d better google it. But don’t google Rugrats theories...

Major anticlimax lord.

As well as the song lyrics there's a lot of chat about contraception and a whole storyline about a suspected teen pregnancy.

I still remember the look on my dads face when I shouted 'it was a false alarm!' not having a clue what it meant at the time- must have been about 7??Shock

chomalungma · 20/04/2020 10:00

@Nomorewineever

So you're rewatching The Breakfast Club?

Definitely different watching it through older eyes

When the 'bad boy' hides under the desk and looks up Molly Ringwald's skirt....

tatasa · 20/04/2020 10:06

Ooh yes, I remember the obsession throughout my whole primary school when the movie was released, and the ques around the block for weeks on end at the cinema. Teenage pregnancy scares etc went over my head, but I do recall getting great entertainment out of the mooning at the camera scene at the school dance. I also instructed my DM to buy me only black clothes which was a bit of a challenge for a 8 year old girl in the 70's.

Likethebattle · 20/04/2020 10:08

It was my favourite movie as a young girl I watched it before I started school. A lot of it went completely over my head.

Taddda · 20/04/2020 10:13

Theres are so many films like that I watched a young kid, bits that went completely over my head, but loved.

Dirty Dancing, The Lost Boys, Young guns...

Taddda · 20/04/2020 10:14

Top Gun...

Knowivedonewrong · 20/04/2020 10:23

My parents to see Grease when I was 8 years old. We queued at the cinema for ages. I was obsessed with John Travolta.
I'm surprised my parents took me considering some of its content, but it obviously went over my 8 year old head. 😁

AnneOfCleavage · 20/04/2020 10:33

SparklingBrook Grease 2 is the opposite to Grease 1 in that it's a cool girl and a nerdy boy and it's motorbikes instead of cars that they are obsessed with. My now teen DD had a Grease 2 bday party when she was 9 as none of her friends had seen it and we actually only watched it again last Friday night as it's one of our fave family films.

DH plays the music on the piano and we quite often have a family singsong. Love Reproduction and also Girl for all seasons as well as Cool Rider. Have the soundtrack in our car too.

Frenchie is in it and the bully motorbike boys from Grease 1 and the headmistress is the same so it feels familiar.

Sparklingbrook · 20/04/2020 10:51

Thanks for the info re Grease 2 I will give it a watch. Is any reference made to Sand//Danny’s relationship ? For all we know they could have split up the day after graduation. Grin

I watched Pretty in Pink again recently. She really should have gone with Duckie. I was a huge Andrew McCarthy fan back in the day but my god Blaine was a drip.

Nomorewineever · 20/04/2020 11:18

@Sparklingbrook - team duckie all the way!!

@chomalungma - yes we’ve rewatched it. And yes, we were wide eyed at some of the bits we just let us pass us by before. The world has changed!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 20/04/2020 11:27

I watched Grease yesterday too, on my own, and really enjoyed it. I'd forgotten how good some of the songs really are - the ones at the dance hall particularly.

Most of the actors are dead now and I fondly imagine them getting together in a 'malt shop in the sky' for old time's sake.

I remember reading somewhere that the premise of Grease was that Danny and Sandy were already dead (somehow) and it was all a dream... does anybody know anything about that?

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 20/04/2020 11:32

I'd never seen it before yesterday!

Applejaxx · 20/04/2020 11:44

God yes, Grease 2 is so bad its brilliant! For the best part of the last 30 years I’ve not been able to go anywhere near a bowling alley without wanting to burst out singing ‘We’re Gonna Score Tonight’.

chomalungma · 20/04/2020 11:47

We rewatched Ferris Bueller's Day Off again.

Ferris is manipulative and I feel for Cameron - who was used and then had to explain to his Dad about his Ferrari being written off

Can you imagine that as an AIBU?

TofutiKline · 20/04/2020 11:49

My favourite (although a bit older) was Some Kind of Wonderful with an insanely sexy Eric Stoltz. M

That kiss.......

HugeAckmansWife · 20/04/2020 12:07

Oh Ferris is an arse but I like that Cameron is ready to stand up to his dad at the end. I love the sister.

Sparklingbrook · 20/04/2020 12:08

That’s one of DH’s favourites @TofutiKline.

My two favourite films are St Elmo's Fire and About Last Night.

The male characters and a couple of the female ones in St Elmo’s Fire are really dreadful watching as an adult now.

OP posts:
AvonBarksdale99 · 20/04/2020 12:09

@chomalungma There’s a theory though which I like which is that Ferris is all in Cameron’s head, like a sort of (Spoilers!) Fight Club type situation, which explains some of the implausibility and Ferris breaking the fourth wall etc

Sparklingbrook · 20/04/2020 12:09

Is the sister in Ferris Bueller Baby in Dirty Dancing?

OP posts:
Pelleas · 20/04/2020 12:15

Amazing to think that Grease was set in 1958 and released in 1978 - so the 'nostalgia' factor would be the same as setting a current film in 2000. That makes me feel very old.

Heygirlheyboy · 20/04/2020 12:35

Yes sparklingbrook and she's Mindy in Friends. She looks completely different as she got unwisely got a nose job at the peak or her fame and never got the work afterwards- her look was distinctive but.she changed it. Terrible.
