Royal Albert hall 25th anniversary show. Can watch for 48 hours from tonight on YouTube. “The shows must go on”

Watching now. It’s fantastic. It was Jesus Christ Superstar last week and that was great too.

Watching now too. It's brilliant.

Just to say that Phantom is only on for 24 hours from 7pm this evening (17th April) in the UK. Something to do with the broadcasting rights.

(All the others have been for 48 hours).

CrochetBug · 17/04/2020 21:26

We're watching and loving it here. Don't know why we bothered as we have it on DVD anyway Grin

JCSS was amazing! I cried.

And if you didnt see National Theatres production of Treasure Island last night then I would highly recommend it. Some of the best staging I have ever seen. As either an audience member or an ex performer.

BeeBella · 17/04/2020 21:53

Ah I didn’t realise it was 24 hours and I can’t edit my original post. Hope people watch it, it’s just beautiful.

I thought Mel C in JCSS was much better than expected but it was Tim Minchen who stole the show!

No-one can beat Michael Crawford but Ramon is a very close second. It's a gorgeous version of it. Sierra Boggess is perfection.

Have it on dvd but going to watch it on YT before bed, just because I can. Smile

EnidButton · 17/04/2020 22:13

Crochet Is that on NT's site or Youtube? Sounds very good!

EnidButton · 17/04/2020 22:14

*Ramin

How dare you autocorrect?!

Starlightstarbright1 · 17/04/2020 22:14

I watched it and loved it have looked forward to it all week

BabbleBee · 17/04/2020 22:16

I’ve seen it on stage a few times, and love the show, but this was incredible. Wish I’d been there!

CrochetBug · 17/04/2020 22:25

@EnidButton it's on their YouTube channel. Just search National Theatre and it should find it. Its just fantastic.

BeeBella · 17/04/2020 22:40

Wow how fantastic does Sarah Brightman look?!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 17/04/2020 23:06

Never seen it before but wow! I was fine then the music box started playing...emotional

EnidButton · 17/04/2020 23:11

Thank you Crochet!

The music box bit made me cry too.

LaneBoy · 17/04/2020 23:13

Ohhh thank you so much for mentioning the 24h thing acup the other two ALW musicals I watched on Sunday! I’ll start in the morning tomorrow instead.

I saw it live as a preteen, absolutely loved musicals and knew the songs by heart but the plot to most of them went over my head (processing issues) and I’m really looking forward to watching it as an adult.

binkyblinky · 17/04/2020 23:18

It was wonderful x

longtompot · 17/04/2020 23:58

My first time ever seeing this. Just wonderful! Who were the four men singing at the end with Sarah Brightman? Did they each play the Phantom?

Dickorydockwhatthe · 18/04/2020 00:02

Yeah the did it was so good. Can I not watch jesus christ superstar??

CrochetBug · 18/04/2020 00:12

I think Sarah Brightman looks like she's had too much work done. But then I don't really know what she looked like when she was younger. Her voice is perfection though!

One of the 4 men was Michael Crawford who played the original Phantom.

Sadly JCSS was only up for 48 hours so it's gone now. I actually didn't think Mel C was as good as I expected in it. But it think its actually more that she didn't sing as much as I thought she might. Tim Minchin as Judas just blew my mind. I could feel his pain and anguish at what he had done.

Wonder what's on next week? Has it been announced yet?

longtompot · 18/04/2020 00:12

I missed JCSS by 30 mins last Sunday :(

Dickorydockwhatthe · 18/04/2020 00:19

Ob no gutted I watched Joseph with Donny osmond but not really one of my favourites. Phantom was amazing especially at the end. I think it's cats next week

CrochetBug · 18/04/2020 00:25

Oh the DC will be happy. They love Cats. They love Joseph too. Even the cheesefest Donny Osmond version. My mum made them technicolour dreamcoats when they were small Grin.

Actually they just love musicals not my influence at all. Oh no

ZoeandChandon · 18/04/2020 00:33

I’ve just watched phantom, my first time seeing it. Out of the three (Joseph, jcss & phantom) phantom is my least favourite. A bit screechy for my taste. Can’t wait for next weeks!

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 18/04/2020 00:40

Can anyone share a link? I've looked on YouTube and there's so many choices that come up, I don't know which one is the right one! Thanks.

StuckBetweenDarknessAndLight · 18/04/2020 00:41

Oh! I found it! Ignore my post x

Dickorydockwhatthe · 18/04/2020 00:42

Type in the show must go on x

CrochetBug · 18/04/2020 00:50

@ZoeandChandon that reminds me of the first time I saw Phantom, live in London. Dad said it was crap and had too much opera Grin. Not sure what he was expecting from a show called The Phantom of the Opera tbh.
