Royal Albert hall 25th anniversary show. Can watch for 48 hours from tonight on YouTube. “The shows must go on”

Watching now. It’s fantastic. It was Jesus Christ Superstar last week and that was great too.

I loved it! Was meant to be going to see it on stage this year but alas it won’t be happening. Phantom is my favourite though so will go as soon as it’s safe! It did make me miss my amateur dramatics society though 🤔

I quite enjoyed love never dies but it was a bit creepy and completely rewrites phantom. We’re supposed to think she actually loved the murderous kidnapper who she though was the spirit of her father Confused and I’m sure at the beginning of phantom they talk about c and r being together for many years.

This is a very interesting analysis of Christine in Phantom and Love Never Dies.

Poor woman, being gaslighted pretty much the whole time.

And in Love Never Dies, why doesn't Raoul tell Christine that the Phantom insisted on a wager and if she doesn't sing then she'll get her money anyway and they can all go home??

I know the entire second act hinges on whether she'll sing or not, but the premise is so flimsy.

ACupOfCoffee · 27/04/2020 15:45

The whole "Devil takes the hindmost" song is all about whether Christine "chooses" Raoul (by not singing) or the Phantom (by singing). But she doesn't bloody well know that! Ugh!

It was on Sky Arts channel this weekend, probably on catch-up? I've seen it so many times, the soundtrack has woven its way through my life, this show turned me into one giant goosebump!
