Things that you're supposed to like, but don't.

What things/foods/activities etc that are supposedly good for you, healthy or "improving" do you dislike?

I really hate being read to, and I hate reading to people. I never particularly enjoyed being read to as a child, though I appreciate that my Mother did so but I think it was a relief to both of us when I was able to read a book by myself. I also don't enjoy reading to people though I used to have to do so when I worked in childcare and as a volunteer role that involved reading aloud. I've no children yet but if I do I can't say that reading to them will be one of my favourite activities.

Walking. I hate walking for the sake of it. I can happily clock up a lot of miles walking through cities and towns when I'm shopping or seeing the sights. Or if there's a lot of wildlife to admire on a country walk, but I don't enjoy walking as an activity. If I go for a walk for the sake of walking I'm aware of every bloody step and find it boring.

Camping: I love nature and wildlife but I much prefer to admire it and then return to a comfortable bed with solid walls and a sturdy roof over my head. Each to their own but I've tried it once and it was hell. Never again.

Dark chocolate. I don't mind a thin layer of dark chocolate with a mint or caramel filling, but I can't eat dark chocolate on its own. I don't care how good it is for you or how unsophisticated it makes me, it is so unpleasantly bitter that I can't enjoy it. I'll stick with milk chocolate.

There's probably more but that will do for now.

I will never understand gyms. I agree that some people do not get endorphins from exercise and I'm one of them. I've tried so many different forms of sport and exercise and they just leave me cold. Couldn't care less.

Gardens. So much maintenance, time, money, knowledge, physical hard work. And for what? A nice lawn and some flowers that die after a few months. And you have to go out there and water it all every single day. I've tried sitting in the garden and it's so boring. So much outlay for so little reward.

Not keen on holidays. A load of hard work and planning and faffing about with sun cream and tiny toiletries. Awful airports and queues and people and bland hotel rooms and the same old routine of breakfast, pool, lunch, pool, shower then dinner. And repeat for 7-14 days. Then you come home and spend a week washing dirty clothes. I'd rather stay at home and redecorate a room.

Theatre - squashed in a tiny seat watching people far away pretending to be someone else. For a lot of money.

Roast dinners are a lot of work and mess for some greasy meat, oily potatoes and gravy. What even is gravy? What's the point of it?

Pasta - chewy, slimy, pulpy mush. I'd rather have a sandwich. Ditto potatoes - grainy starchy slop that tastes like the earth.

Saunas and hot tubs - people's sweat and skin flakes heated up. No thanks.

Sushi - what maniac would eat raw fish?

Killing Eve - terrible Russian accent, Eve wrinkles her forehead then Villanelle kills someone. Yawn.

Spa days - I can never find my way about or work the lockers so I’m flustered to start with. I hate people touching me and I feel very self conscious wearing a dressing gown without my jammies underneath. It’s also very dull just sitting about all day “relaxing” to order. I’d be much more relaxed at home with Netflix, at least then I’d be allowed a pizza!

Yallreadyforthis · 17/04/2020 21:41

Prosecco
Champagne
Goats cheese
Only Fools and Horses

IdblowJonSnow · 17/04/2020 21:42

Enjoying this thread and people's great long lists but wondering what some people DO like!
Agree with sushi, gin and fish. Grim.

Remembered another one. Shopping without a specific purpose. I don't mind going on a hunt with a friend for a specific item. I loathe hanging around shopping malls just for the sake of it, all the smells and artificial lighting and music ugh

Rainbowb · 17/04/2020 21:45

Centre Parcs. Where spontaneity goes to die.

Graphista · 17/04/2020 21:47

I LOVE dark chocolate but I’m aware that’s unusual, I even loved it as a kid which was very much regarded as weird in my family.

I often come across films or books that given what else I like I SHOULD like but I’ve struggled to get along with. Mainly:

Lord of the rings - books and films just can’t get into them, yet I love fantasy generally and have a linguistics degree so should be fascinated by the language aspects

Sicario - keep trying to watch it, everyone I know recommends it to me as a film they think I’d like, can’t get on with it at all

@spiderlight as another ginge I hate summer! I burn too easily, plus prickly heat, plus allergies... nope! Not my season at all!

Another who hates walking without a purpose or distraction. Happy to do so if weather pleasant but not too hot (see aforementioned summer hatred) and/or if I have good company or music to listen to, other than that SO boring!

Gin! Nearly everyone I know has jumped on this particular bandwagon. Rotten stuff

“Children between the ages of 6 and 11” I was resisting saying children as for me it’s not totally true - I’m an ex nanny and childminder! But yes this age is extremely tiresome! I love babies and toddlers and all their squishy yumminess, I love teens with their opinions and developing personalities but this age? Just annoying!

Holidays

I love the idea of them and I've been to some lovely places but I'm desperate to come home after 3 days usually and cry with homesickness behind closed doors. I feel anxious, overwhelmed and I desperately miss my animals.

Floralnomad · 17/04/2020 22:00

Totally agree about holidays 3 or 4 days anywhere is more than ample .

Mistymonday · 17/04/2020 22:02

Salad leaves
Coffee
Wine
Avocado
Sweet potatoes

lauryloo · 17/04/2020 22:07

Disney - I just don't get the love for it

Wired4sound · 17/04/2020 22:08

Mindfulness. My work is crazy into it and we quite often “do an exercise” at the start of meetings. I turn my camera off “to concentrate” and write my shopping list instead.

TisConfusion · 17/04/2020 22:10

Agree with so many of these, it’s weirdly cheered me up!

Gin - always hated it

Tea - yuck

Smoothies - maybe a texture thing?

Halloumi - I just really don’t like it, taste and texture is yuck to me yet everyone seems to love it

Spas - hanging out in swimwear/robes with other random people is weird to me plus I don’t like my body being touched by anyone other than DH (not always in the mood for that either haha)

Festivals - not actually been to one and camped overnight, only been to one in the day. However, the mix of crowds, intoxicated people, mud, noise and not being able to wash properly for days just doesn’t fill me with joy.

X factor/BGT/anything Simon Cowell - just trash, no thanks

Game of Thrones - only saw a bit of it and the violence was too much for me

So many more things but I think I’ll leave it there!

AMomHasNoName · 17/04/2020 22:10

Exercise

Sex , literally just dont see what the fuss is about at all.

Also clothes shopping is my idea of hell.

motherofawhirlwind · 17/04/2020 22:11

Baths - you're sitting in your own muck!

Cycling / running / long walks - boring, sweaty and just not fun

Summer - too hot, too bright, burnt skin in 10 minutes or less

Massive hotels with pools - fighting for sun loungers and inflatables and twats getting drunk, sitting out all day, urgh, no

Atthebottomofthegarden · 17/04/2020 22:21

Coffee
Dark chocolate
Exercise /gyms - I do a bit because I know I should, but I’m watching the clock waiting for the class to finish
Most people
Clubbing / festivals
January - miserable bloody month

Sorry tea and avocados are great though 😁

Atthebottomofthegarden · 17/04/2020 22:22

Ps I used to like caramel more before they started adding salt

Sicario · 17/04/2020 22:22

New Year's bloody Eve.

ToLiveInPeace · 17/04/2020 22:25

Lately: smiling patiently while yet another cat is allowed to interrupt a Zoom meeting.

AuntMasha · 17/04/2020 22:52

Getting a sun tan.

I don’t understand why you want to look like a bit of old leather.
