Fatter or fitter in lockdown?

I have put on 3lbs in the last couple of weeks, not really surprising given I’ve been drinking almost every evening and munching my way through masses of chocolate and crisps. Lunch is usually a salad but I’ve been eating more sandwiches. Initially, feeling so shocked by recent events I turned to the fridge/cupboard for comfort.

However, I also had a go at joe wicks with the kids (ow) have been out for a couple of runs and have done a few bike rides, which is more exercise than I would usually do too.

Just wondered if the majority were finding in this time of static they are getting heavier or cracking on with C25K or home workouts as they’re ten a penny, and getting fitter?

I find myself switching between thinking fuck it, if I put on a bit of weight and that’s all I have to contend with during all of this then who cares, but then feeling the expansion of my belly rolls getting hot and sweaty on my thighs and thinking this needs to stop!

I’m not drinking in the week any more and cutting back on snacks, but devil on my shoulder keeps popping up; “go on love, treat yourself, need to have something nice in all this shite. Have some chocolate, go on.”

Might get the kettlebells out this afternoon.

Fitter.
I'm still managing to go for a run and a walk with the kids.
Exercise before work, in my lunchbreak (10 mins as a break from my desk) and at the end of the day.

I do have wretched IBS and depression though so I'm trying to drag myself through this so I don't get really poorly.

ItsAlrightItsASecret · 15/04/2020 08:30

I've lost 5lb because I'm not eating crap and I'm not drinking because I'm not going out.

i haven't done any exercise yet but thinking I might do C25K.

Actually, I've got the 30 day shred in the cupboard...

Or my daughter's gymnastics conditioning exercises maybe...

lubeybooby · 15/04/2020 08:30

Fitter. I have lost a lot of weight over the last 5 years and I did not do all that only to go backwards now. I caught myself in the spiral and have been bustin my ass daily since and being much more careful with snacking.

Fitter have lost a stone but my BMI is now only just under 40 so a long way to go. Absolutely petrified of the stats regarding obesity with this virus

Fatter. Was on a healthy, slow-weight loss diet until lockdown but have been baking with DC and eating eggs. Walking every day but no HIIT-style workouts due to a foot injury. Have put on some of the weight I lost.
Getting back to it now, though. DS has a little bit to lose and is really serious about it so we will do it together.

KingaRoo · 15/04/2020 08:36

Fatter, drinking wine most nights and enjoying treat dinners and chocolate. Missing the gym.

KingaRoo · 15/04/2020 08:36

Oh yes and lots of baking

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 15/04/2020 08:36

Both fatter AND fitter, if that's possible.
Am grazing literally all day, and having a medicinal glass of Viognier (just one) almost every evening. Plus lots of baking to occupy the DC.

However, I have upped my usual twice weekly 5k wheeze around the park to every other day, and on my days off jogging I am doing the Shred DVD.

whereiscaroline · 15/04/2020 08:37

Fatter. Can't stop reaching for the cakes, biscuits...

Also moving less despite having a dog because my workplace is huge so I normally do a lot of steps in a day.

missmouse101 · 15/04/2020 08:47

Fatter. Was huge to begin with and it's a total nightmare. I need to be physically away from food to stop overeating and I'm surrounded by it, baking it, cooking it for the family. No walking associated with my usual work, just a once daily bike ride which makes me feel ravenous.Sad

flipperdoda · 15/04/2020 08:47

I'm with TheTurnOfTheScrew - both! Usually I get a few thousand steps in just on the way to work, currently I'm averaging about 1500 a day due to small house, but I'm not eating much less, and as PP I also have a devil on my shoulder whispering about all the snacks in the kitchen.

But I'm exercising almost every day so getting fitter too! Working on reducing the snacking - worked apart from yesterday, but trying to see it as an overall win!

mynameiscalypso · 15/04/2020 08:50

I think both too - I'm doing more exercise at home and really feeling the change in my body (although I massively miss swimming). But we have so much food and chocolate in the house and I find myself baking to use up ingredients that would otherwise go off. And then eating.

wowfudge · 15/04/2020 08:52

Fitter - going for more walks and doing weights three times a week. Weight loss is 80-90% down to eating fewer calories than you expend though, exercise is a very small part of that. I'm doing a gym programme designed to build lean muscle and lose body fat. I started before all of this and they're working hard to keep clients motivated.

Bexta147 · 15/04/2020 08:55

Another one who is saying both.

I’m the opposite to a lot of people in that when I am stressed etc, I physically can’t eat. I lost almost a stone in the first couple of weeks of the schools being closed because I was just so stressed and couldn’t eat.

On the other hand I’m not doing half as much exercise as I would normally. I usually go to running club twice a week and then a personal training session once or twice a week.
So far I’ve been out for one run and done one workout 😬

GatoFofo · 15/04/2020 08:56

Fatter, as I have been boredom eating.
Like the pp, I am also less active as my prelockdown life involved a lot of walking and not a lot of sitting.

purpleleotard · 15/04/2020 08:58

fitter and lighter, only lost 1Kg in the last week.

MysweetAudrina · 15/04/2020 08:59

Initially fatter as I was eating all around me and having 3 or 4 sugary treats a day but I caught a glance of myself in the mirror on Sunday doing an online yoga class and thought enough is enough so have cut out the crap and upped my water and fruit intake. My exercise is fine. I do an online yoga class each morning for an hour and am getting my 10000 steps through running or walking each day.

PhoneLock · 15/04/2020 09:01

Fitter, but it's definitely harder not to over-eat when working at home.

Notonthestairs · 15/04/2020 09:07

Fatter as I have halved my daily steps. I'd like to walk for longer but DD has some physical disabilities as well as learning disabilities and she can't walk far. I'm desperate to go for a run on my own but she really needs time outside of the house - and that's my one daily trip out gone.

Obviously I should eat less to compensate - but I'm not a bad cook and I love my own food (aka greedy).

itssquidstella · 15/04/2020 09:15

Fitter. I've been eating more but exercising two to three times a day in compensation (at home HIIT, at home yoga and either a long walk, a run or a bike ride outside).

I'd normally hit 15,000 steps a day when I'm working so I've been trying really hard to get somewhere near that after the first week of lockdown when we were isolating and my step count dropped to something ridiculous like 2500 per day.

PurpleDaisies · 15/04/2020 09:16

Neither. I’m eating much better but I can’t get to the gym so I’m maintaining my weight. I’m enjoying countryside walks and yoga though.

justanotherneighinparadise · 15/04/2020 09:17

Fatter, but not by much.

itssquidstella · 15/04/2020 09:17

@Notonthestairs you know legally you could go out for a run on your own too. The guidelines say one form of exercise a day but the legislation doesn't limit the number of trips out.

HaveAtEm · 15/04/2020 09:22

Fitter...doing a brisk walk everyday...started only managing around 3k, but now up to 7k), not eating crap all the time and upped my water intake. No idea on weight as I don't have scales, but clothes are a lot looser and I feel energised. I just hope that I can keep it up post-lockdown 😂
