Not one card for my birthday :(

Lockdownbirthday · 11/04/2020 12:52

It’s my birthday tomorrow. I’ve just checked my post box and I’ve not received one card. I know it’s a first world problem but I’m a bit upset that no one has even sent me a card.

I always make a big effort with everyone else in my family. I’m an organised person and have things lined up months in advance. The post is slow I know but my birthday is the same day every year! They could have sent it a little earlier?

Even my DH admits he’s messed up. He ordered my card on Wednesday expecting it to be on time Sad.

Lockdown is shit.

Happy birthday OP 💕

Embracelife · 11/04/2020 12:55

Happy birthday
Gather everyone for zoom party organize it.
People have loads to worry about
Remembering to send card may be way down on the list

BeyondMyWits · 11/04/2020 12:56

happy birthday for tomorrow ! Flowers Cake

It is a bit shit - but just to let you know they might not have been able to get one. Our shop put all the cards away after we had people coming in taking AGES choosing them whilst others were queuing outside waiting to pick up essentials.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 11/04/2020 13:14

Maybe they couldn’t get one? Here I’d have to go to a shop, then the post office for a stamp creating two unnecessary journeys. I’d have sent a text message or ecard though.

TheSmelliestHouse · 11/04/2020 13:15

Happy birthday 🎂

LordEmsworth · 11/04/2020 13:52

I have family birthdays and haven't been able to send cards because the local post office has closed, so I can't get stamps. Not much I can do unfortunately...

spiderlight · 11/04/2020 14:02

That sucks. I hope people ring or message you tomorrow to make up for it Flowers

affor · 11/04/2020 14:02

Online cards are easy to do so not excuse as far as I'm concerned! I've use MoonPig and FunkyPidgon to send cards in the last few weeks because of lockdown

Ninkanink · 11/04/2020 14:10

You do understand that people probably aren’t making trips to the post office unless they absolutely have to, right? We’ve not left the house at all, barring one shopping trip and delivering some meds to my daughter, for 4+ weeks now. Had anyone in my family celebrated their birthday in the past 4 weeks (and continuing for the foreseeable future), I actually could have sent a card because I do have a store of cards and I also have a book of stamps, and there happens to be a post box two min walk from my home. But a lot of people aren’t organised with cards and also don’t have stamps and a postbox right next to their house. They shouldn’t be going to the post office unless it’s urgent.

I guess they could have used moonpig or something, but I don’t know if they’re still operating...or maybe, like your DH, they’ve miscalculated how long it would take to get to you.

A card is not the only way to show love, affection and thought. Maybe you’ll get some phone calls, FaceTimes or FB wishes tomorrow?

🍰🎁🎈 and 💐 for tomorrow!

Lockdownbirthday · 11/04/2020 14:15

I understand that with everything going on it might not be the forefront of peoples minds. I was not expecting people to go to the post office for me. 90% of the cards i normally received are from moonpig, i just wanted to rant a little as i was feeling a bit upset about it.

Thank you for the birthday wishes.

I understand. It’s also extra hard sometimes when cards/gifts/thoughtfulness around birthdays is a big part of who you are - If that’s your ‘love language’ it can be difficult to not take it very personally if others don’t share that same approach.

But fingers crossed, you’ll get cards etc in the post over the next few days. If people don’t usually forget then they’re probably just late. And tbf, they’re not even actually late yet...

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 11/04/2020 14:19

I have no interest in my birthday

secretskillrelationships · 11/04/2020 14:20

Happy birthday.

Please be aware that the post is incredibly slow at the moment - I sent something on 2nd April first class and it arrived today so don't assume anything. My buyer said mine wasn't the only order that hadn't arrived so they were doing a rolling birthday!

Pinkpepper9 · 11/04/2020 14:22

Happy birthday for tomorrow!!! I’m sure you’ll receive lots of messages this year instead of cards! 😀

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/04/2020 14:22

I messed up my mum's birthday this year. I feel horrible about it. But both DH and I are still working, essential workers. Everything is up in the air, all my normal cues to get a a present weren't there. It doesn't mean I love her less. I miss her a lot.

gamerchick · 11/04/2020 14:25

I don't think Moonpig are sending anything out atm are they? And I doubt that people had the foresight to see it coming weeks ago

Chin up OP, these are weird times. Treat yourself tomorrow to a bit of self pampering. Celebrate at a later date.hapoy birthday.

FredaFox · 11/04/2020 14:26

I think you are being a bit precious, unfortunately your birthday has come at an exceptional time.
It's my friends 40th today, I ordered her flowers a week ago as I couldn't take any chances not getting a gift (we were meant to be going to new york) I can't go the shops to buy anything ( was going to getting her something in New york)
I however have not sent a birthday card, I'm in a village, like a pp the shop has removed cards from display, moonlit has a several week backlog.
People don't want to leave the house for non essential reasons and unfortunately a birthday card is non essential
Hopefully you will get texts, calls and virtual getogethers later
Happy birthday 🎂

FlamingoAndJohn · 11/04/2020 14:28

I only had three. One from a distant relative who always sends one, one from my mum and one from my cleaner! The only other people who normally send cards are older relatives and I’d sooner they stayed at home.

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 11/04/2020 14:29

90% of the cards i normally received are from moonpig

Moonpig and Funky Pigeon aren’t sending cards at the minute.

Skybluepink123 · 11/04/2020 14:33

It’s my birthday tomorrow too, Lockdown and I got one card delivered. I think it’s going to be a strange kind of day but I’m focusing on the wider picture and telling myself it’s no big deal. Happy birthday to you though.
🍷🍰

Lockdownbirthday · 11/04/2020 14:34

Thanks for further replies. I've ordered from moonpig today for my Dsis and its still showing as sending them out (I hope!). I'm going to have a G&T and forget about it, maybe i'll be like the queen and have another birthday later in the year Smile.

Very happy birthday for tomorrow! ☺️ 🍰🎈🎉, I know how you feel, it was my birthday yesterday, didn't get a card from mum and dad or a sorry why not, but they pushed some random clipping out of a magazine they thought the kids might like through my letter box on my birthday 😥 I would've loved a bit of note paper folded with "happy birthday" as I get the shop bit, it really bloody hurt x x

Dyrne · 11/04/2020 14:36

Some people aren’t sending post due to the extra transmission risk.

In addition, as PP have said, the post is working slower in some areas.

Especially if you usually get cards, can’t you see that this is then most likely due to the current quarantine, not a reflection on how much people care about you?

Lockdownbirthday · 11/04/2020 14:36

Happy birthday to you too skybluepink and bumblebee xx

Oh that’s sad Bumble not to get even a little bit of paper from your parents. Do they normally send a card?
