Not one card for my birthday :(

It’s my birthday tomorrow. I’ve just checked my post box and I’ve not received one card. I know it’s a first world problem but I’m a bit upset that no one has even sent me a card.

I always make a big effort with everyone else in my family. I’m an organised person and have things lined up months in advance. The post is slow I know but my birthday is the same day every year! They could have sent it a little earlier?

Even my DH admits he’s messed up. He ordered my card on Wednesday expecting it to be on time Sad.

Lockdown is shit.

Happy birthday to anyone who has a birthday just now. I only post birthday cards to very close relatives or anyone not on Facebook.

updownleftrightstart · 11/04/2020 14:43

Happy birthday!
Regarding cards, lots of mine have been super late. Even one normal card posted first class took 10 days to get here and several moonpig/funky pigeon cards still haven't turned up. Those that were on time were posted 2 weeks in advance.
Everything is taking so much longer in some areas, but not all so not everyone is planning for that when posting things.

yellowbluebell · 11/04/2020 14:46

People can buy online cards so no need for stamps and going to post. Only thing is now though is a first class card ordered this way is taking at least 5 days. You might find a few cards arriving next week

catwithflowers · 11/04/2020 14:46

Happy birthday OP. Hope you get lots of phone calls and nice text messages tomorrow. 🎂 🥳 🥰

yellowbluebell · 11/04/2020 14:47

Funky pigeon is as I've just ordered two

iklboo · 11/04/2020 14:49

Happy birthday. I hope you get lots of emails, virtual cards and calls / FaceTime chats. It was my mum's 70th last week and we couldn't see her so we're planning on something special when we can. Maybe you could start planning a special time too?

delilahbucket · 11/04/2020 14:54

The post is beyond slow and there are no deliveries today where I live. People may have sent them early. I had something sent first class on Monday that hasn't arrived.
Perhaps people don't want to send things due to the risk of infection. One of my closest friends lives with a vunerable person and I didn't dare send her a card for this reason.
Try to not to dwell. Yes, it's crap having a birthday at the moment, but the birthday wishes you get tomorrow may surprise you.

SportingInjustice · 11/04/2020 14:54

It was my best friend's birthday on Tuesday. I always have a stash of generic cards and stamps at home so I sent her a card 2nd class last friday. It still hasn't arrived. Post is just taking a bit longer as normal - I bet you get a trickle of cards over the coming weeks, probably not as many as usual but you'll get messages tomorrow.

Happy birthday,!

Bumblebee007 · 11/04/2020 14:55

Hey Sky, yes they do normally, the fact they came round anyway and posted something through was the killer. I had lovely homemade cards/gift from wonderful h and kids 😊 Happy birthday for tomorrow 🍰

SociallyDistant · 11/04/2020 14:59

Happy birthday for tomorrow 🎂. It was my DD's birthday last week and because she's pregnant I didn't want to risk transmission by posting her a card. So I made one as a word doc, and sent it to her as a pdf so she could print it off. I must admit I nearly forgot. It's hard keeping track of the days during this lockdown and I haven't looked at my diary for weeks!

MinorArcana · 11/04/2020 15:00

It’s possible that they may have posted / ordered cards at the usual time, and not anticipated how slow the post is right now.

PILs posted us something about a week and a half ago - they told us about it during a phone conversation the day they’d posted it - and it’s just arrived today. First class stamp.

LandOfAThousandJumpers · 11/04/2020 15:02

Happy birthday OP!

I didn’t send my Dad a birthday card as I thought it might stress him out (or infect him with my germs). I didn’t think he’d want to worry about leaving it on the mat for a couple of days etc. Probably just people trying to be considerate.

returnofthecat · 11/04/2020 15:06

I haven't sent any cards since lockdown began, not because I've forgotten, but because they're something from the outside world that aren't essential to be brought into another household. Possibly there's no risk of transmission, but until someone proves there's definitely no risk, it just doesn't seem worth it to me.

I have however been making an effort to speak to people on their birthday, so they know they haven't been forgotten.

Hope you have a great birthday tomorrow regardless. It's a really strange time to celebrate, but I hope your family find a way to spoil you anyway! :)

SillyBub · 11/04/2020 15:12

It's DH's birthday today. He's had homemade cards from me and the DC. That's it. I'm certain more have been posted but they just haven't been delivered yet; the post is shockingly but understandably slow at the moment.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow FlowersCakeWine

Preggers86 · 11/04/2020 15:21

My birthday is Christmas eve and only close family and my partners close family remember mine each year and that's without a pandemic. My own brother forget until boxing day. Since I came off social media its shocking the amount of people who need a platform to send birthday wishes. But it's just something I suck up each year. I wouldn't complain too much about the lack of cards as its something that you will probably end up throwing away in a week. However If tomorrow comes and nobody contacts you via telephone then that could warrant being slightly upset. But in the grand scheme of things there is always the one on the same day next year😊.
Ps happy birthday for tomorrow

CaroleBaskin · 11/04/2020 15:23

Moon pig aren't sending out cards at the minute so it's a shop and post office/somewhere that sells stamps kind of job which simply isn't essential right now. I've not sent my dad a birthday card but obv I called him instead.

Talulahoopla · 11/04/2020 15:41

Hi OP. I had a lockdown birthday. A few cards arrived in the post (not all on the day, including my DP's) and just one part gift from my DP who had ordered it quite far in advance. At one point I was alone in my home gym listening and dancing to Anne Marie's birthday on the radio. The bit that really got me was not seeing people and getting out for the usual celebratory dinner with my family. Found it really emotional even reading the cards that did arrive and ended up in tears three times throughout the day, one of those times being as I did my daily exercise march in the rain (because that's not sad at all?!?). By about 9am I decided it was all just a bit of a flop and that I wasn't having my birthday so it's postponed until we're all out and about, along with mother's day and my mum's birthday and we'll celebrate all at once. Two birthdays are better than one! I'm sure your friends and family will all send their love tomorrow and you won't have been forgotten. It's just a bit of a rubbish time for a birthday and when you're feeling locked up, lonely, missing your family and stressed it doesn't help. Hopefully it's sunny for you and you can relax with a wee easter tipple and look forward to better days. Happy Birthday when it comes 🎂🎉🎈

Lockdownbirthday · 11/04/2020 15:49

Thank you ladies. You have all made me feel much better about it. I think the isolation is getting to me!! Much love to everyone x

I don't think Moonpig are sending anything out atm are they?

They are according to the app!

CaroleBaskin · 11/04/2020 16:14

@JigsawsAreInPieces the website says gifts and flowers only. No cards.

roarfeckingroar · 11/04/2020 16:38

People aren't going to the post office for stamps or out to card shops. I think you're being a bit silly given the circumstances.

Preggers86 · 12/04/2020 19:31

Happy birthday OP! Hope you've had a good day! CakeFlowersGin

Iwant2move · 12/04/2020 19:36

@Lockdownbirthday Happy Birthday.
It was my Birthday on the 10th. The only people who remembered were my late husband’s parents and sister, and my sister. My three adult sons...nothing. It’s only two and a half years since I lost their dad. My parents haven’t bothered for years but God forbid I were to forget theirs.

RhymingRabbit3 · 12/04/2020 19:41

It could be held up in the post. I sent a card last Sunday and it hasnt arrived yet. The post office here are incredibly busy - we only seem to be getting post every other day.

Ninkanink · 12/04/2020 20:14
