Myers–Briggs personality test

Has anyone ever done the Myers–Briggs personality test? If so, how accurate was the result? Did anything surprise you?

I did the test and the result was INFJ. What was more interesting was finding out my shadow personality - ESTP. After doing the test, it felt like I got a better understanding of myself.

To be honest, tests measuring the Big Five or HEXACO are well more accurate, but I guess they don't have those snappy 'types' to compare.

FWIW I'm INTJ on M-B.

Rejuvenate20 · 09/04/2020 11:28

Interesting. I've not heard of the Big Five or HEXACO. I will have a look at them. Thanks.

I've done it several times and come out with a different result each time.

ssd · 09/04/2020 12:47

I'm the advocate, think it's INFJ but not sure

ageingdisgracefully · 09/04/2020 12:51

I've done it and come out as INTJ.

Did not surprise me at all.

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 09/04/2020 12:51

Same - I always get IN-- but have variously got all the possible combinations of the last 2 letters at different times and with different versions of the test. Only taken free online ones though...

dkanin · 09/04/2020 12:51

I come out as INTJ every time

elQuintoConyo · 09/04/2020 12:52

I came out as the Swedish Chef Hmm

Ormally · 09/04/2020 13:26

There's a book by Merve Emre, 'What's Your Type', that delves into the history of the development of this. It's an interesting read with some fairly niche information in it.

scattercushion17 · 09/04/2020 13:28

I'm INFJ but I know that perhaps it shouldn't be a label and people should remain open minded.

I do think it's a useful tool though and I feel that I understand myself more because of it.

Namelessinseattle · 09/04/2020 13:35

I did a course on it and I think the biggest thing is it points to your preferences- so not who you are all the time. And also you might have two different types who draw the same conclusion on something just took a different route to get there. I find it massively helpful in my relationship, I'm an E and he's an I. And drying to discuss things used to drive us mad, but now I give him time to process Before we discuss something and he doesn't assume I've thought through everything I say. So it makes for a happier life.

Dieu · 09/04/2020 13:56

Is it free, and can anyone please provide a link? Have googled but it's a bit bamboozling. Thanks.

Ormally · 09/04/2020 15:05

No, the real thing is pretty expensive. There is only 1 licensed training source to train people to administer it in the UK, then the trained people have to purchase individual licences to use for a test and report.

OverMy · 09/04/2020 15:09

INTJ. Done professionally at work. Makes perfect sense.

Always interests me that loads of INTJs appear when Myers Briggs appears despite female INTJ is one of rarest ones!

Redyellowpink · 09/04/2020 15:11

This chat is confirming a theory I've had for a long time...the only people who care about MB personality tests are INFJs

We're apparently the rarest of the types (like 3percent)...yet there's about 10 of us on here chatting about it!

Redyellowpink · 09/04/2020 15:12

Cross posted...I should include INTJs in my theory

greenemerald · 09/04/2020 15:17

I love this kind of stuff. I'm an INFP and really related to my 'type'. Found that it was really accurate.

greenemerald · 09/04/2020 15:20

@Dieu here's the link to the free test -

ValkyrieCain · 09/04/2020 15:24

Haha. I am INFJ. And a qualified user. It’s an interesting observation about INFJs being the only ones interested in it Smile

Angharad07 · 09/04/2020 15:27

I got INTJ! I’ve taken it 3 times. I was INTP when I was 17 but I’ve been an INTJ in the last two taken more recently at age 20 and 22. I took the same version of the test. I’m a psychology graduate so I’ve always been interested.

ChaiTea1 · 09/04/2020 15:33

I’m INFJ too!

I had to do this test for work, I’m really confused why they say this is the rarest personality when I’ve met so many people that are the same?!

Throughabushbackwards · 09/04/2020 15:37

I'm INFJ-T "advocate turbulent". I agree with what it says about me, spot on actually.

PorpentinaScamander · 09/04/2020 15:42

I'm INFP-T apparently. I've listened to a lot of discussions on MB by friends but never looked into it myself.

Im very conscious that how I answer these kind of things is very different at the middle due to severe depression and anxiety to how it would have been a year or 2 ago.

Ive been reading a lot about enneagrams recently. MB is next on my "to study" list

OverMy · 09/04/2020 15:57

Maybe INTJ and INFP’s hang out online more 😁
Or are the women who worked in the right kind of jobs to have the tests done.
IT here, I was the only INTJ in my test group of 50 at work. Everyone was comparing. Mine was universally agreed to be correct, mixed feelings!

CheriLittlebottom · 09/04/2020 16:05

ISTP-T

Buy I reckon I could do it tomorrow and get something totally different.
