Thanks for new thread.
Going to try yogurt cake today as I have half of a large tub of natural yogurt to use up.

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/04/2020 17:01

I need to use up the remains of the guacamole, but also need to use up some raw sausages. Chili con sausages sound a good idea or not?

Pegase · 08/04/2020 17:02

Ooh @midwesteaster I would love a recipe for yoghurt cake - haven't had that for ages!

Sounds good to me @Weedsnseeds1 - I think chilli is the ideal pretty-much-anything-goes base dish.

I’ve got an aubergine dal on. House smells lovely. I’m going to chuck some cavalo nero in at the end. I forgot I was making half and have only halved some ingredients. Wondering how it will turn out.

This is the one...

Tuna croquettes with sour cream dip, with capers, grains, parsley and chives for dinner. I had forgotten how much I like these.

Not grains, gherkins, autocorrect not helpful.

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/04/2020 17:45

They look lovely. Potato or roux based croquettes

Igneococcus · 08/04/2020 17:49

Potato.
It's just potatoes (boiled and mashed, need to be floury), tinned tuna, chopped capers, salt pepper, all mixed together, then dipped into flour, egg and breadcrumbs before frying.

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/04/2020 17:50

?

cricketmum84 · 08/04/2020 18:16

Butternut squash curry tonight :) lovely easy recipe. Chuck it all in a pan and let it simmer away. It should make 2 good sized portions.

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/04/2020 18:31

Sorry igneococcus that question mark was supposed to be at the end of my question, not after your answer!

Spam88 · 08/04/2020 18:40

Lots of ideas, thank you!

And thanks nink for the collated recipes, very helpful :)

Looks good - will attempt when get some flour. Does it stay soft for long?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 08/04/2020 19:37

Just made the best tagliatelle carbonara of my life: cook the pasta, drain, glug of oil, pasta back in, half a glass of dry sherry, boil the sherry halfway off, 150 ml cream, chopped ham, two stirs, add an egg and a twist of black pepper, 6 stirs or until sticky, chuck into bowls and add parmesan/padano.

Ninkanink · 08/04/2020 20:03

That sounds great!

Tonight’s dinner, which was an experiment, turned out quite good!

Chilli batch cooked a few days ago to use some minced beef that was nearing use by date, topped with frozen French fries, and finally, topped with spicy nacho cheese sauce with jalapeños. 👍

That looks and sounds incredible @Ninkanink. French fries as a topping: who knew?! Grin

Placemarking. I've made some of my finest meals and cakes during this lockdown. Will be trying out some recipes.

Ninkanink · 08/04/2020 20:09

Heh yes, it was a bit of a gamble, but I wanted to use them up now because they’re not that nice when you cook them the usual way, and I need space in the freezer for groceries coming tomorrow.

Chilli con sausage is well under way. I unearthed some refried beans and have yesterday's guacamole.
I will serve with one of my standard rescued food items - dried tortilla strips.
As there are only two of us, we seldom get through a full packet of tortillas, so I cut them into strips, dry in the oven after I have used it for something alse ( switch it off and dry in residual heat), then store in a jar with a silica gel sachet.
I usually use them for tortilla soup.

Furble · 08/04/2020 20:43

Place marking! Thank you for the lovely new thread @Ninkanink and for all the amazing summary links from the first thread!

Crazy day at work today so just leftovers for tea and looking forward to catching up on the thread and some more frugal food planning in the morning.

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/04/2020 20:47

I love the idea of trench fry topped chilli.
My dal was a bit eventful-forgot about it and there was quite a crust on the bottom. Gave it a nice smoky flavour in the end. I should have done something crunchy to go with it but it did taste very good. It used up lots of sad bits from the fridge so a good result.
