Frivolity.... Kitchen Aid or......

For reasons I shall not bore you with I would like to self-gift myself a frivolous gorgeous stand mixer. (Obviously when this is all over, not now and, to be honest, the colour I want wasn't in stock at JL ).

I love the look of the kitchen aid. But I have heard the motor can be a bit weedy.

I am a keen cook/baker. Use my food processor attachments on my current f-ugly stand mixer quite a lot.

Would I be better with something else. Or just go with the beauty of the Kitchen Aid?

Thank you oh-wise-MNetters.

bosch mum

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2020 20:10

For me, it just had to be a Kitchen Aid. The motor is fine, they come in delicious colours and they are very strokeable Smile

isabellerossignol · 03/04/2020 20:12

Kitchenaid, go for it.

I have had mine for almost 20 years and it is still going strong, and still looks so good!

LovingLola · 03/04/2020 20:15

Got dd a mini kitchen-aid for Christmas last year. It’s our most used kitchen gadget.
Get it

Heismyopendoor · 03/04/2020 20:16

I have a kitchen aid and do love it! Had it for almost ten years now and not had any problems at all, I’d say I use it multiple times a week. I also have the grate attachment for the top of it and it’s amazing!!

sqirrelfriends · 03/04/2020 20:17

They're beautiful, I would say go for it.

I have a kmix, a bit cheaper but works very well.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/04/2020 20:17

I use my kitchen aid nearly every day including the slicer/grater attachment. It is also a thing of beauty in itself.

MitziK · 03/04/2020 20:19

Apparently, Kenwood Chefs are the workhorses of stand mixers. I suspect when my mother's house finally needs clearing, I'll be able to take the one she bought in 1978 and it'll still work.

My half siblings are all posh wankers have Kitchen Aids.

Junobug · 03/04/2020 20:21

Kitchen aid. I love mine. Its sits beautifully next to my dualit toaster (that doesn't fit regular bread in it. Don't waste your money on one of those.)
I've had no problem with the motor and it is used a lot.

AragonsGirl · 03/04/2020 20:22

I love mine, it’s so pretty! I’ve got a few attachments too, the mincer and the ice cream making bowl.

DropZoneOne · 03/04/2020 20:25

I have a kmix, cheaper version of the kitchenaid.

FuckThisWind · 03/04/2020 20:26

Kitchen Aid. Mine is white. 10 years old. Looks brand new. I make bread with it every day. Plus cakes etc. White never dates. I've lusted after Red, Mint Green, Cream, Rose Gold as the fashions have changed over the last decade. Still pleased I chose the classic! £360 well spent back in 2010

ChoporNot · 03/04/2020 20:28

Pretty. Stroke-able. You see this is why. You understand.

I don't need a new stand mixer. At all. I have a perfectly serviceable bosch one. That I hide in a cupboard when not using

I just want to look at one.

And I would probably use it more as it would be accessible.

It is supposed to be a frivolous present. (DH's is a off road remote controlled car).

I should do it, shouldn't I?

No, no...I shall wait....someone may come along with some negatives...

@FuckThisWind. Hmm. You may have a point. But I was thinking ice blue. An accent colour....

I love my Kitchen Aid, however, my mother's Kenwood has been going since before I was born. Around 5 decades ago.

Momniscient · 03/04/2020 20:29

Depends how sensitive you are to noise.

I have an older Kenwood and the modern Kitchen Aid whirring is too high pitched and irritating for me by comparison (my parents have one of the new Kitchen Aids, and I can't stand the noise).

catsjammies · 03/04/2020 20:30

I love my kitchen aid. We don't have room on the worktop for it right now and the new kitchen is being designed specifically with extra counter space for the kitchen aid 😆

JeanJackeys · 03/04/2020 20:31

Kenwood K Mix. They are so practical. And I think mine is very pretty too

FudgeBrownie2019 · 03/04/2020 20:33

I bought my candy apple red KitchenAid when we bought this house 12 years ago. He's still pristine despite weekly use, and he's still beautiful. No lie, 12 years on I still smile when he greets me each morning.

I may have also bought a matching blender, kettle and toaster so he has friends because I have a weird thing about kitchen items being lonely. Don't tell DH, though.

ThanosSavedMe · 03/04/2020 20:34

Love love love my kitchen aid. I know it’s extremely shallow but it is so beautiful. Works really well too!

ThanosSavedMe · 03/04/2020 20:35

If you can afford it, go for it. If it’s going to put you in debt, don’t.

ChoporNot · 03/04/2020 20:45

You see, I was thinking ice blue www.johnlewis.com/kitchenaid-175-artisan-4-8l-stand-mixer/ice-blue/p4845106 to go with Granny's tea pot and sugar bowl and my agapanthus print. But maybe I should go black/white/cream? Any thoughts?

Ooh, ice blue would be perfect in your kitchen.

I went for classic cream because I keep repainting my kitchen and cream goes with anything.

FenceFuckery · 03/04/2020 20:53

Ice blue would definitely work for you. That was my first choice color, but I have a baby blue dualit toaster and they wouldn’t have worked together. I went tonal instead with the baby pink.

I LOVE mine, use it constantly. It’s keeping us going in bread at the moment, and I might whip up some ice cream later. Tomorrow I’m going to mince a load of steak offcuts to make burgers.

Housewife2010 · 03/04/2020 20:53

I have a Candy Apple Kitchen Aid and love it. I was dithering over cream being the more sensible choice as it goes with everything, but the candy apple is so stunning that I followed my heart.
