Another thread is revealing how many loo rolls some of us have ferreted away, so I'm wondering about the great other british hoard item. PASTA. (And tinned tomatoes).

How much do you have?

I only go shopping once every 8 weeks and buy a whole carton of penne and one of spaghetti too so had done that. Unbeknown to me my mum had bought me 10 bags of pasta shells and 8 of spaghetti too. I have 5 bottles of passata about 8 tins of tomatoes and a tube of puree. Our pasta will last about 2 months

Packet of fresh tagliatelli
Pack of dried spaghetti, pack of penne, both purchased months ago.
Quite a few toilet rolls purchased when they were on offer way before all this kicked off.

lucysmam · 03/04/2020 10:44

I have a bit of macaroni, but not enough for a meal. A bit of penne that hopefully is enough & I'll add the macaroni if not.

A bag of bows in the cupboard, half a pack of spaghetti & some lasagne sheets.

1 tin of tomatoes left; I thought I had more than that.

I seem to have lots of tins of beans though!

None. I can't understand the mass panic over pasta. It's not the only food on the shelves.

I love pasta - at a push, I could make it I suppose. It's the canned tomatoes that amazed me - who knew they were so versatile?

TemoraryUsername · 03/04/2020 10:55

4 x 500g packets of gf spaghetti in my Brexit stash. I've used up all the half packets in my cupboard, trying to be mindful to cook smaller portions topped up with the things that are in plentiful supply. I'm forever grateful for my Brexit stash as there hasn't been more than ok ne or two packs of gf pasta on the shelves for a while now and it feels good to be able to leave them. Same with my giant pack of 18 (or 24 possibly?) loo rolls bought 2+ years ago in anticipation of Brexit, buying it back then didn't cause any shortages and I'm able to avoid buying any loo roll for a while now and do my bit to help ease supplies.

A bag of penne, a bag of spaghetti, and a box of lasagne. All from pre-crisis. I don’t ear much pasta unless it’s fresh pasta. Shops here are full though.

BeansOnToast4T · 03/04/2020 11:10

Autistic dc would live on pasta (no sauce) so I always have a good stock in the larder! Probably about 3 packs of spaghetti and 3 bags of penne.

BearSoFair · 03/04/2020 11:16

One packet of penne unopened, plus maybe 100g of the open pack
One and a half packets of shells
One bag tagliatelle (minus two little rolls that I used with the end of the last pack)
2 packs spaghetti
Half a box of lasagne sheets

Longdistance · 03/04/2020 11:19

1 and a half packs of spaghetti, a pack of penne, half a pack of fusilli and half a pack of giant conchiglioni pasta from Lidl’s. Some was given to us from sil when she moved back to Oz before Christmas.

Ratonastick · 03/04/2020 11:30

I have discovered that I have 4 bags of pasta. Bit of a surprise if I am honest as I didn’t stockpile it. I have a bad habit of getting in a loop when I start to run low on something I buy infrequently and end up buying it every time I go shopping for about a month and end up with a massive glut. I generally do this while completely forgetting something else. On a related note, I have enough washing up liquid to last several lifetimes, but we are down to our last bog roll.

I’m really not cut out for armageddon.

Lolly86 · 03/04/2020 11:31

About 1.5kg

WhatHaveIFound · 03/04/2020 11:35

Three 500g bags of GF pasta (needed by DH & DS) and none available at any of my local shops. One 1kg bag of regular pasta. Probably enough to last a couple of months as we don't eat a lot of pasta.

Rice is getting low but i can't get my usual 5kg bags.

BiddyPop · 03/04/2020 11:44

I have 2 packets of spaghetti left over from last years' Cub camp. I have 1kg of penne, and 1kg of fusilli. And then I have a couple of packets of lasagna sheets.

TBH, I normally have about that much, and we eat a fair bit of pasta normally. I probably will use up the Cub spaghetti as well as our own, and replace that before we go away again (as we have already cancelled our spring hostelling trip that I expected to use it on, and have every expectation of having to cancel our summer camping trip).

We still have a hank of fresh tagliatelle in the fridge too, as I keep forgetting that and it's too small for a family dinner so I need to do something some lunchtime instead with it.

Ladyglitterfairydust · 03/04/2020 11:46

For those who are running low, my local Lidl had quite a lot of pasta in today and Booths had some last week too so hopefully the stock is starting to filter back through. I’ve got a few bags of twists, 2 packs of spaghetti and some lasagna sheets. Thanks plenty for now.

BiddyPop · 03/04/2020 11:50

I only have 3 tins of tomatoes ( but 4 tins of tomato puree), as I had been running low anyway. We have enough at the moment, and have also got a couple of jars of readymade tomato sauce (for weeknight dinners in a hurry). We seem to be eating slightly differently to normal just now though, as we have time to cook.

The pasta meal I made this week involved a white wine and cream sauce (seafood), and I am going to use the rest of the cream either in a carbonara sauce or a Victoria sponge over the weekend. I also have a lot of pesto to use up. So tomato sauces are much lower on my horizon than normal. And my curries have been more coconut milk based so I haven't needed them there either (which is my other main use of them). The other minor use is stretching tinned tomato soup, but people haven't wanted soup for lunches so I haven't used it there yet.

Now if anyone has a use for refried beans?? - as I found 3 tins in various places, along with a load of chickpeas, cannellini beans, haricot beans, 4 bean mix, kidney beans, and some lentils. I have various uses for most of the rest, but not the refried ones....

Terralee · 03/04/2020 11:54

I've got 5 bags of pasta that I bought for a no deal brexit

Lweji · 03/04/2020 11:59

8 packs unused
3 packs open.

They're all different types and it's the usual variety and number that I keep.

4 small cartons of pureed tomatoes. Also my usual stock.

I do have about 8 cans of beans or chickpeas, which is about twice as usual.

torthecatlady · 03/04/2020 12:45

Oh I also have a fresh bag of tagliatelle, the date is good!

inwood · 03/04/2020 12:47

500g spaghetti and 500 fusili

lynsey91 · 03/04/2020 13:01

Me and DH eat quite a lot of pasta so always have a fair amount of it.

We do a big shop about every 6 to 8 weeks and always have a pretty big stock of things like pasta, rice, tinned tomatoes.

We had done a shop just before this all started and at present have 1 lot of spaghetti, 2 packs of wholemeal pasta and 3 packs of other pasta.

We have 8 tins of chopped tomatoes, 7 tins of whole tomatoes, 2 cartons of passata and 3 tubes of tomato puree.

None of these items have been bought since lockdown.

Deathraystare · 03/04/2020 13:05

Well, this is exciting, but I managed to get to a big Sainsbury's and was allowed two bags (they took the spaghetti away!). I also got soe loo roll ..wooo! Still cannot get handwash anywhere!

I later went to my little Sainsbury's and got a pack of spaghetti.

Whoareyoudududu · 03/04/2020 13:28

Took us ages to get our hands on some but finally got 4 packs of spaghetti on Monday from Aldi. They only had spaghetti left, everything else was gone... We have a big family fwiw, not selfish stockpilers. Just made the most of the fact they had some in stock!

Fishcakey · 03/04/2020 13:29

One and a half normal sized bags. They have been there ages.

mogtheexcellent · 03/04/2020 13:33

I have a pasta shelf in the kitchen Blush Its a display shelf with10 large and medium kilner jars full of different pastas. I always kept it fully stocked so had no need to buy any in the last month. We are down to about 4 full large jars. I'll worry when we get down to our last jar.

And no my kitchen isnt huge, just had a stupid placed bare wall so stuck shelves there, one for cookbooks and knick knacks, one for pasta. Wine rack under.

SingingInTheShithouse · 03/04/2020 13:37

We prepped for Brexshit, so had a large crate of mixed pasta & about 100 tins of tomatoes. Bought a little at a time over many months though, we intended to keep adding to it for when we really feel the results of Brexshit, but having to dip into it now & so glad we have it & a pile of loo roll, as it's allowed us to help elderly friends, who arrived back from a 3 month tour of Spain to full lockdown & empty shelves
