Another thread is revealing how many loo rolls some of us have ferreted away, so I'm wondering about the great other british hoard item. PASTA. (And tinned tomatoes).

How much do you have?

I only go shopping once every 8 weeks and buy a whole carton of penne and one of spaghetti too so had done that. Unbeknown to me my mum had bought me 10 bags of pasta shells and 8 of spaghetti too. I have 5 bottles of passata about 8 tins of tomatoes and a tube of puree. Our pasta will last about 2 months

4 packs of linguine

ShadowStone · 02/04/2020 23:32

We have about 2.5 kg of fusilli and a 500g pack of spaghetti.

DS1 has ASD, can be very fussy with his eating, and fusilli is one of his safe foods. If we save the fusilli for him, we should have enough to last him for a fortnight.
I’m hoping we find some more fusilli by then. I went to our nearest Tesco earlier this week, and they’d restocked the penne pasta, but no fusilli in sight.

AnnieAnt · 02/04/2020 23:33

Only half a bag. Won't go far for a family of 6 and will have to prioritise DC1 as she will only really eat pasta and bread.

If I can't get any more, I am really going to struggle to get her to eat any hot food, but the shelves were bare when I went last week. Going to try tomorrow.

1 500g pack of pasta.

I dont remember seeing any tinned tomatoes in the cupboard today, which is unusual as normally we have 4 tins.

2 jars of pasta sauce though....I think?

Stet · 02/04/2020 23:33

3kg of penne, 3kg of spaghetti and 1kg macaroni. And some lasagne sheets. We like pasta Grin

Giraffey1 · 02/04/2020 23:34

I have one standard size pack of pasta. It was the first bag I’d seen for more than three weeks and was the last on the shelf.

torthecatlady · 02/04/2020 23:35

Haven't bought any in ages..
But I have half a packet of linguine, some shells and a packet of wholegrain spaghetti.

Xiaoxiong · 02/04/2020 23:36

One bag orzo
One bag stelleti (those little stars for soup)
One 500g box of fusilli
Two 350g bags of enormous shells for stuffing
2 boxes lasagne sheets

torthecatlady · 02/04/2020 23:38

Although I have 8 tins of chopped tomatoes, 2 cartons of passata and 1 tube of purée and I have a jar of dolmio knocking about in the back of the cupboard. All bought pre-covid19.

Xiaoxiong · 02/04/2020 23:39

Oh and I have 8 tins of tomatoes and one tube of puree. I went through 5 or 6 tins of tomatoes last week alone and will use another 2 or 3 this week. I seem to be putting them in everything at the moment - bean and chorizo stew, tomato soup, shakshuka...

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 02/04/2020 23:41

Half a 500g bag of moon and star shaped pasta that is all I could get from Ocado, a pack of spaghetti, and some fresh lasagne sheets. Fresh pasta is not at all in short supply in my local Tesco, I suppose people don't think of it. I sometimes buy it to freeze.

MercianQueen · 02/04/2020 23:41

Good grief. We have zero pasta. And I'm beginning to understand why! But there is other food in the universe, so I'm sure we'll be fine Wink

Genuine question though - if you only shop once every 8 weeks, how do you manage fresh food?

Fiddlersgreen · 02/04/2020 23:42

We have four tins of tomatoes, one carton of passata but no pasta.
We live pasta in our house and eat it regularly but we ran out about two weeks ago and haven’t been able to get any more

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 02/04/2020 23:44

DS said yesterday if all else fails we can get some cock pasta from Ann Summers, although he's doing the shopping for his great grandmother at the moment and I can't imagine her appreciating willy shaped carbonara!

GlamGiraffe · 02/04/2020 23:45

Knowing people buy 3kg bags foesnt make me feel like such a weirdo when I pick up the whole tray of penne and spaghetti in aldi. We eat loads of pasta meals so with 2 or 3 big men (depending on who is home) me and DD who has ot twice a day generally anyway I now feel less freakish!

All the grumps in aldi were accusing me of stocking up before this started but I was doing my normal shop, I just only do it every 8 weeks and get top up fruit and veg in between. (And I only bought one pack of loo rolls😂)

I have two and a half normal-sized packets of pasta, one of which I already had in the cupboard anyway, and one which I won in a raffle at Christmas Confused

We currently have two tins of tomatoes - there would have been three, but we had chilli earlier in the week.

If anyone uses coconut milk in curries, I have just found this (which I think is a pricing error) 24 cans for £1.60, free amazon prime delivery.

The 12 pack is MUCH more expensive so they’ll probably correct the price soon so grab a pack while they’re going;

stormcloudy · 03/04/2020 02:48

Reading the reviews it says it's damaged stock,

ArriettyJones · 03/04/2020 02:51

Ah. That’ll teach me. I’ll have a look when it gets here.

managedmis · 03/04/2020 02:59

How can you only shop every 8 weeks?!

Wanderlust21 · 03/04/2020 03:04

I bought a bag today and have 1 unopened and some drinks and drabs. So id say...3 packs worth.

But only 1 and a half packs of rice. That what I'm more worried about.

Plus not much to flavour the pasta with lol.

Pixxie7 · 03/04/2020 03:22

About 2 small bags, but bought in January before this madness .

isseywith4vampirecats · 03/04/2020 08:46

I have one normal sized box of lasagne sheets, 1.5 small packs of spaghetti, 4 tins of tomatoes, 1 jar of passata, and one jar of lasagne white sauce we don't eat pasta very often and all these were bought before panic buying set in

squishedgrapes · 03/04/2020 09:07

I have one pack of spaghetti unopened, and another half used, one pack of penne, and a giant bag of rice

squishedgrapes · 03/04/2020 09:08

Oh, and 4 cans of tomatoes and a few tubes of purée
