Where the fuck can I get Tampons

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 30/03/2020 08:58

Seriously, this is ridiculous.

I have ridiculously heavy periods (tampon change every hour for 3 days)

I normally have at least one box in the cupboard but friend needed them and I thought No probs I’ll just grab some in the next 3 weeks.

Period is due on Saturday and I can’t find any anywhere...I’m in London ffs...there’s hundreds of shops but nada! Amazon keep saying they have some then cancelling my order. I have no food shop due to come

I normally use super plus tampax compak but will use anything at this point. Except a mooncup or similar. I have one but my periods are so heavy it doesn’t work for me

Help! (Please!)

I got some for DD in Lidl last week. Our local health food shop is selling some organic talons and towels.

WithASpider · 30/03/2020 10:34

amazon.co.uk/Tampax-Plastic-Unscented-Tampons-Absorbency/dp/B0028916CC/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=tampax+pearl&qid=1585560697&sr=8-6]]

These from Amazon. Delivery Wednesday if you have prime.

They'll cope with a much heavier flow than Super plus so you'll have to change them less often. They've changed my life and are worth every penny.

ADreamOfGood · 30/03/2020 10:35

There has been a dearth of super and heavy tampons for about six months (I'm not in London). Maybe there's been a supply problem, or maybe it was Brexit stockpiling, don't know, but I have been struggling to get adequate supplies for some time.
I'm down to a handful of heavy, but thankfully due to the stress of current situation my period has been lighter this time Hmm
Thank goodness DD uses pads which were actually available (though I got the last pack, and felt guilty)
Hope you get sorted.

Reusable pads don’t work, I need a super plus tampon and maternity towel changed every 60-90mins and reusable ones just don’t cut it

Totally get the panic too. I was just like this a few years ago until I had the Mirena Coil fitted. Might be worth thinking about once we are all out of lock-down?

KenDodd · 30/03/2020 10:40

I read about a month ago to expect a shortage in this sort of stuff. I heard that the factory's producing them had switch production to medical masks and PPE. Seems unlikely to me and more likely to be the result of panic buying. If producing masks is the reason I suppose that's good, doesn't help you though.

bettybea · 30/03/2020 10:45

Have you tried B&M and Home Bargains? In my area both of these had plenty?

Thefaceofboe · 30/03/2020 10:48

Have you thought about a moon cup OP? I’m tempted to try one as my periods are similar to you and there’s no time better than when you’re stuck inside Smile

Qgardens · 30/03/2020 10:52

Isn't it that the fibre used for ST's is being diverted to the face masks?

JemimaPuddleCat · 30/03/2020 10:55

Why do people keep suggesting a cup? The OP has already commented on that in the first post!

YouDancin · 30/03/2020 10:55

@IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece I had periods this horrendously heavy all my life. Then I had a mirena coil fitted and IT CHANGED MY LIFE!
Honestly wish I'd done it years ago. From floods like you describe to a few spots a month (after the settling in period of about 40 days continuous very low level bleeding).

Chewbecca · 30/03/2020 10:56

They are available at my local M&S petrol station on Deliveroo with free delivery.

RB68 · 30/03/2020 10:58

I have a feeling lots of these were /are manufactured in CHina. There are some out there I even managed to get teen stuff the other day to post up to a friend whose DD needed some and she couldn't find any either.

You do need to vary what you are using though - I struggled to find my normal ones and have for several months too (Supers) so have been tending to buy when I see them. I can only recommend buy what you can maybe use with a pad as well. I am the same as you regarding being heavy for two or three days and hourly monitoring. Sometimes its a time of life thing rather than anything being wrong people.

The other thing I am disgusted by is the price hike on these in the last few weeks - its not like women get a choice about menstruating.

SwedishK · 30/03/2020 11:04

You can get super plus ones from totallyswedish.com. These are the only tampons I use, they're great!

Delivery charges are quite high so throw in some food as well while you are at it.

FoulMouthedMotherFigure · 30/03/2020 11:37

@IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece - if you're still stuck, please PM me.

I have two unopened packets of Lil-Lets Super Plus Extra tampons and five of Lil-Lets Ultra, stockpiled from before I went into the menopause.

I can put them in the post to you on Wednesday when I go to the corner shop with a PO counter.

UnaCorda · 30/03/2020 11:41

FFS, anyone else going to suggest Amazon or a mooncup?! Hmm

SarahTancredi · 30/03/2020 12:18

I think a petrol station might be your best bet.

Earthwisegirls had some natra care tampons

They may not arrive in time though :(
Amazon was selling some stuff for 80 quid Angry

Evilspiritgin · 30/03/2020 13:36

Have you got sorted op?

BikeRunSki · 30/03/2020 13:43

Ethical superstore

MrsPear · 30/03/2020 13:48

More natural brand www.spiritofnature.co.uk/products/natracare/natracare-organic-cotton-tampons---super-plus---20/ but super ones here. I get bulk box of the pads.

ifoughtforliberty · 30/03/2020 13:50

I can send you a load in a Jiffy bag. I know it sounds odd but I bought the wrong ones by mistake a while back and I dont know what to do with them. I don't think food bank will take them as they have been opened. Just message me your address.

Disclaimer - i still have to leave the house to go to the post office for work.

maddy68 · 30/03/2020 13:50

I had the same issue. They were charging £20 for a box on Amazon! I have bought a mooncup. Been wanting to try one for ages. But now I'm at home I won't be as worried about leakage. So it's worth a go

teenagetantrums · 30/03/2020 13:53

This never occurred to me. I'm going through menopause so go a few months without a period then bleed for ages very heavily. Just been out to do shopping there are none in my local shops. Hopefully l won't come on anytime soon. I have a few in bottom off my bag that is it. Hope you got it sorted OP.

tallah · 30/03/2020 14:00

Because you don't want to go out? Are you just looking on line as they're def in my shops. You may have to go look

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 30/03/2020 14:02

I’ve tried 4 corner shops on my way to work, Amazon, superdrug, boots and 2 supermarkets and absolutely nothing. This is insane.
I’d love to use a mooncup, it would save a sodding fortune, but I can’t

Thank you for your messages and pms!
I would actually be really appreciative of anyone that can send me any (of course I’ll pay!) as I’m starting to really worry about it!

I obviously don’t want anyone to make a special trip so is anyone going to the post office anyway?

Some incredibly kind people here!

ifoughtforliberty · 30/03/2020 14:40

I'm going to post office at close of today. Just message me your address. I think they are super if that's ok. Green wrappers. Am happy to send on as I've not known what to do with them!
