I’ve ordered things online for the kids and a few treat etc and seem to have spent fair bit more than usual, guess it’s some sort of attempt to feel better

No. I did a big Lidl shop last weekend and a rather big b and m shop where j stocked up on hot water bottles, some DIY stuff etc. Nothing since then.

Whoareyoudududu · 30/03/2020 15:45

Yes I can’t stop it. I’ve bought all sorts of crap I wouldn’t usually bother with. We are saving on food and fuel tbf.

Boredbumhead · 30/03/2020 15:46

Nearly bought an electric blanket last night though. Our house is freezing.

itsgettingweird · 30/03/2020 16:20

In my head yes!

I have beautiful plans for each room with new furniture and accessories, cushions, appliances etc.

Sadly my funds don't quite agree with me about the idea!

purplecorkheart · 30/03/2020 17:09

I have done an awful lot less online shopping and what I have ordered was necessary to do my job.

I have my eye on a ring on etsy that I might treat myself to when this is all over.

winterisstillcoming · 30/03/2020 17:40

I did, but because I can't go out. Home Ed stuff, printer cartridges, books, hair cutting scissors, face peel. I'm done now though. Can't see that I need much else in the foreseeable. Spending way less than normal though. I'm looking forward to using up things like clothes, beauty products, kids making kits, pantry and freezer foods and leading a less wasteful life overall.

StillMedusa · 30/03/2020 19:25

Nope. One order of wool to crochet a blanket, but that was already planned before any of this.
I'm a supply TA with no idea if I will have any income for the forseeable future, so I am not spending a penny that I don't absolutely have to.

Even if I had a secure job, it feels kind of wrong and wasteful to be buying for pleasure right now.

Trinpy · 30/03/2020 19:45

Yes. I've bought loads of craft stuff and stuff to help with home educating the kids. DH has bought a load of DIY stuff and is making his way round the house fixing everything that needs to be fixed. I've spent more than usual on DS1's birthday presents because I feel bad for him that his party got cancelled and he will likely not have the presents from other relatives that he normally would. Oh and an oven, which was the biggest spend, but necessary as our old one had stopped working completely.

I am trying to buy from as few shops as possible though so I'm limiting the number of parcels I get as much as possible while still supporting businesses. We do still need to buy stuff if we can because otherwise more business will go bust and more people will lose their jobs.

SabineSchmetterling · 30/03/2020 19:52

I’m spending less. No takeaway coffees, no lunchtime meal deals, no bus and train fares, no eating out, cinema trips, buying something because I see it in a shop window. I did buy a desk chair and a desk protector for WFH, but haven’t spent anything else online.

MrsGrindah · 30/03/2020 19:52

No and I don’t want to. This has made me so conscious of waste. It’s all just stuff . Or most of it ..food , essential stuff for kids etc is fine but shopping to cheer yourself up? Nah

Mumista · 30/03/2020 19:58

No, don't need any more stuff right now, and don't want people to have to pack my unnecessary stuff in a warehouse or deliver it to me.

MrsMGE · 30/03/2020 20:05

I don't understand spending a huge amoint now, not many jobs are super secure these days, plus what would you be spending on in lockdown and why? I understand bits and bobs to educate the kids at home or if they outgrow clothes /shoes completely, but what else to spend so much? The mind boggles.

BakewellGin1 · 30/03/2020 20:11

Nope... Apart from food and essentials not a penny is getting spent here. We don't know how long we need to manage on what we have and anyway we don't need anything.. If I did shop online it would be for things we don't need. If this situation has taught us one thing it's don't take things or money for granted because in a month it could be gone.

EffOrf · 30/03/2020 20:11

We spent a lot on decorating materials and a garden project but it needs doing anyway and we had earmarked a lot of it for next year but have brought it forward

DH spent loads on a bike turbo trainer but I know he has been coveting one for ages so would have succumbed eventually anyway

haverhill · 30/03/2020 20:14

I’ve bought DS some big jigsaw puzzles as thank God he’s discovered he enjoys them. We do them together and it fills a few hours happily. Also bought some air drying clay to do something creative.
Also way too many films on Amazon.

Boredbumhead · 01/04/2020 13:13

I spent over £200 on a food shop today. But that is hopefully to stop us having to go out for the next two weeks. 2 pot plants, a coffee pot, a kids book and a magazine was included.
