Anyone else been spending A lot of money online, since lockdown

I’ve ordered things online for the kids and a few treat etc and seem to have spent fair bit more than usual, guess it’s some sort of attempt to feel better

No, just because I feel bad for the delivery person. That said if we all stop buying stuff I guess that's their job gone too...so it's hard to know what the right thing is really

EmmaJR1 · 30/03/2020 07:39

Yep! My dh is off until lockdown is over so we are getting on with those jobs that keep getting put off.
Revamping the kitchen with some paint, a bit of wall paper in the living room. Cleaning and protecting the decking. Puzzles and craft bits for the children. A jacket I've had my eye on for 6 months that is now half price....

But... we are now only spending in food and drink. We don't need anything now we have ordered our supplies.

Lindy2 · 30/03/2020 07:47

My main spending has been on food for the family. I've got a click and collect booked and it has a lot more on it than usual but that reflects that there's been a big gap since I last did a food shop and I'm not doing my usual popping in to a shop for a few items here and there.

Apart from food and some Ebay birthday presents for my soon to be 12 year old, there's been nothing to spend on.

I don't have any spare time. I've lost my job but I now have 2 children to try and support through home learning and a key worker husband that I worry about.

Carrie7469 · 30/03/2020 07:49

I’m spending a bit less. I’m lucky enough to be able to WFH until things get back to normal so I’m not spending on travel to the office. Bought a cheap monitor riser and a keyboard though.

mrsjg · 30/03/2020 07:51

@MurrayTheMonk - That's how I feel.

I must admit also I'm not shopping as I want to see just how much we have left at the end of the month. To prove how much I fritter away normally. The more I can save, the more I have for a spending spree when (fingers crossed) this is all over.

daisypond · 30/03/2020 07:52

No. I’m spending much less. I bought cat food online- as I couldn’t get it in the shops.

Standrewsschool · 30/03/2020 07:54

I did browse a little in the Next sale until they closed it. Trying to save money. No petrol for two weeks, so far, plus dh is not buying cups of coffee whilst out.

bruce43mydog · 30/03/2020 07:54

No we are spending less and making do with what we have. Saving quite a bit of money.

SpeckledyHen · 30/03/2020 07:55

No. Realised stuff isn’t important anymore . I have enough clothes, makeup , household stuff to last me a lifetime . If my boys were young it might be different though if I was trying to entertain them.

DCIRozHuntley · 30/03/2020 07:57

No. We bought a swing set and a Wi-Fi signal booster about 3 weeks ago when we realised what was coming. Nothing but food since. I just can't muster up the enthusiasm for it so it's not been tough to give up shopping, although I think we would have anyway due to financial concerns and thought for workers along the distribution network.

FurtherFromTheTruth · 30/03/2020 07:59

No. Our business is in ruins so we are broke.

Thickmuthafuckers · 30/03/2020 08:00

Yes I have ordered loads of gym stuff and looking at clothes makes me feel less anxious

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 30/03/2020 08:05

No, I think it is essentials only? And I always end up sending half the clothes I order back (am not a standard shape) and don’t feel I should be going to the post office unnecessarily....

Trumpspeach · 30/03/2020 08:08

Ordered tea bags and disinfectant online but that's it. Like others, I don't want to be wasting worker's time and risk their health to deliver me stuff that I don't need. Am really hoping that this is an opportunity for me to recalibrate my spending habits.

beautifulteeth · 30/03/2020 08:08

Nope and I spend money a lot

MortyFide · 30/03/2020 08:08

I have, but mainly because we have a new and growing puppy and his needs change all the time, plus I had a load of work planned on the garden (and now have time to do it). So there's been a bit of ordering of dog beds, harnesses, compost and plants. And a memorial rose for my beloved old dog so her ashes can go in the pot, it's high time I let her go from my shelf.

Retail therapy is soothing, but I have no interest in buying much else at the moment.

My book idea is seeing a bit of action though.

BruceAndNosh · 30/03/2020 08:14

I ordered some garden furniture well before lockdown and it arrived at the weekend. I felt embarrassed when it was delivered as it's a bit frivolous not essential.
I'm doing loads of browsing but no buying.
There's a few items I didn't get round to buying that I meant to but they are just going to have to wait.

squeekums · 30/03/2020 08:16

I am
My afl footy team needs fans buying so I got a guernsey and scarf. Now looking at a membership to our state league team, again to put some money in club and hope other fans do the same, folding is a real risk. I mean the aus government is giving stimulus payments for a reason lol, well that's what I'm telling myself lol
Dd Easter present from smiggle
EBay for hair dye

horrorofmany · 30/03/2020 08:19

Yep, I have bought quite a few crafty bits for the kids as well as books as library closed and a few movies from amazon. I've also ordered a new bra and some loungewear as I had nothing comfortable at all. Plus when I do the weekly shop I buy more treats, we normally don't have any. I thought I'd spend less but have probably broken even or spent a bit more. Luckily our jobs are secure for now.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 30/03/2020 08:23

Yes, like pp said dc has birthday coming up really wanted a party but obviously couldn’t so have spent a fair bit. Also been spending on garden.

LadyPips · 30/03/2020 08:24

Myself and my husband sell novelty signs online and we're really busy. I can't understand it. I thought we'd be slow for the foreseeable. I've bought a few things online but they're just games for the kids.

Silversleeve · 30/03/2020 08:28

No, as someone said up thread I'm realising what's important. Changing the paintwork or the cushions just aren't. What's important is helping other people as much as you can whether collecting food for those who can't or a friendly voice at the end of the telephone for those struggling.

dottiedodah · 30/03/2020 08:33

Had to buy a new slow cooker (old one has no light.front panel hanging off and have had to change the heat setting with a fork!) ordered from Amazon ,and some gorgeous hand cream as my hands resemble coarse sandpaper from all of this frantic washing! All other spending down though (obv no petrol) trips to cafes/coffee shops dear old M and S for shopping trips !

NiteFlights · 30/03/2020 08:33

I’ve added a few essentials to my subscribe & saves (DH is vulnerable, trying not to go out). Otherwise no. I don’t know how long my job is going to last.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 30/03/2020 08:34

Nope...im a lone parent and lost my job...im waiting to hear if i will get the 80% from the government so im being very frugal...I have savings to tide me over for about 3 months...my only expenses are my mortgage...bills and food at the moment.
