I’ve ordered things online for the kids and a few treat etc and seem to have spent fair bit more than usual, guess it’s some sort of attempt to feel better

Yes but its cat food and cat litter I did make a mistake and order from wish today part of it was counting games for my youngest I didnt check the postage costs 🤦‍♀️ the other item was frivolous I shouldn't have clicked it I'm kicking myself now

Feelingfestivenow · 30/03/2020 08:39

I have only ordered seeds, which is normal but nothing else.

I am holding on to money, I have plenty of 'stuff' and dont need any clothes/shoes/bags/more 'stuff'

eurochick · 30/03/2020 08:40

We are generally spending less - no commuting costs, no lunches at work, no new clothes, no hairdresser. But we have bought a second desk and office chair to facilitate both of us working from home, and some craft stuff and toys. And fortune on printer ink.

FlabberMcBlasted · 30/03/2020 08:40

We’ve had a birthday to buy for so a fair amount. Also our fridge broke, long wait for a new one though. Really not the time.

How are the closed shops going to survive if we don’t buy anything from them online?

LazyFace · 30/03/2020 08:41

Actually I did. I had to order cat food I'd normally go to the shops for, birthday presents, a couple of garden toys (we live in a rental, literally nothing in the garden), stationery and books etc. Will also need printer paper and ink very soon. I consider these essential. We can't stare at screens all day.

userxx · 30/03/2020 08:44

No, I'm holding on to my money.

MrsMozartMkII · 30/03/2020 08:45

Yes, but only where we can't do click and collect. The timing is bad and there's things we need and just can't go without, though from the drivers' and the financial pov I wish we could! Then again, I suppose we're helping to keep businesses going, ir should all be social distanced work, and we'll sort the finances later somehow.

I wanted to leave drinks and sweets out for the drivers but thought that's not a good plan at the moment, plus they're leaving things on the drive so too far away.

DesLynamsMoustache · 30/03/2020 08:45

Yes, garden now resembles an adventure playground.

Dollywilde · 30/03/2020 08:47

Yes and no. We’ve got a baby on the way so I’m using this time to buy the things we need that we can still get - cot, nursery furniture, baby bath etc. But this is all stuff we’ve saved for so it’s not spending money we hadn’t already put aside. I’m worrying a lot about the baby, the birth etc with this going on and preparing for his/her arrival is helping me feel more in control of the situation.

On the flip side I won’t be going back to the office until I go on ML now so I’ve moved the money I’d put aside for maternity clothes to the savings account. I’ve got a couple of floaty tent like dresses from last summer, I’ll just wear those if I’m not going out until my due date (definitely couldn’t get away with them in the office for the next 4 months!)

lyraray · 30/03/2020 08:50

I've ordered some books for DC and some games / educational toys. Spent £100. Won't be buying more, don't know what will happen with DH's work. Some haven't actually arrived yet. Although the postman said he was happy to be delivering parcels it was keeping him in a job. Only on MN is it as risking people's lives, people need to work to earn, not all jobs are secure and many people's outgoings are a lot even if help is to be given.

tangledyarn · 30/03/2020 08:51

Have ordered a couple of things from small 1 man businesses that I wanted anyway (sewing stuff etc) but am not buying anything from big companies that isn't necessary as the likes of asos and prettylittlething are still not protecting their staff with appropriate distancing and equipment when the business isn't necessary at all.

QuimJongUn · 30/03/2020 08:55

I bought a new tablet last week because my ancient laptop can't cope with streaming films anymore. It came with a month of Amazon Prime free but I've no desire to buy anything else.

We're saving so much money otherwise though. Not paying for DH's fares to and from work alone will save £50-£60pm. Then there's no top-up shops, lunches on the hoof or picking up a few bits when I'm in town - a new mascara here and stuff for the house soon adds up. We've reactivated our Netflix and Readly subs and I've bought more Kindle books than usual but we're still spending nothing like what we were. Not being able to go to the pub/bars helps, too. If we can keep this up (to some extent!) 'after' we'll be able to save so much every month. It's really illustrated how much we spend on crap.

RHTawneyonabus · 30/03/2020 08:57

I’ve ordered quite a bit of stuff that I would normally have brought in a shop. Garden supplies, children’s shoes, and homeschooling stuff. Tried to keep it to stuff we really need but it’s adding up! I seem to spend a fortune at the supermarket on the weekly shop but I guess that’s because I’m now avoiding any top up shops and no food from school or work’s canteen.

ChipsAreLife · 30/03/2020 09:01

I bought some activity books and bits but that was before schools closed as we had to self isolate.

Generally we are just buying food as kids have loads of toys etc in the garden and house we are quite lucky.

I'm trying to not spend a penny more than needed. The fallout from this will last years and I get no help as I'm over the threshold for self employed help. We have savings but I'm also having a baby in Sept and DH work has completely stopped and won't start till this clears.

Notpanickingjustyet · 30/03/2020 09:02

No.
Ordered a pair of crocs online for DD for garden wear when it's warm and a toilet seat.
Those were our last online orders.
I'm not sure if I have a job to go back to and I don't feel it's right to be ordering stuff now. That's just me.
And I stopped takeaways (we normally love takeaways) over 2 weeks ago.
I won't even be sending my dad a birthday card or present next month.
Spending has / decreased a lot.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 30/03/2020 09:06

I ordered some lego sets and a games console.
Otoh: I'm not paying for a bus pass, or buying petrol, or picking up a take away coffee, or paying for afterschool clubs, or taking the kids to softplay...
So overall I'm spending much less.

Yes! These were the last items I bought from a real life shop. Two weeks ago. I went into work for a meeting about how to work from home.
Then to WHS to pick up a whole bunch of maths and reading workbooks.
I as going to take the bus home but DH insisted on meeting me in town with the car. At the time, I thought that was a bit over the top.
Seems like years ago now

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/03/2020 09:15

I've bought 2 pairs of pjs and a duvet set for ds.

teenagetantrums · 30/03/2020 09:18

No l have ordered a new laptop as mine died and a birthday present for my DP that's it. I normally order most of my non essential stuff online as l hate shopping. I went on holiday 4 weeks ago...seems like a lifetime ago..so l already have loads of summer clothes. We not really locked down as both key workers do no extra time for us

buzzswole · 30/03/2020 09:23

No, I'm finding so much stuff in the house that I can make use of for the kids.
Books and art/craft supplies which have stacked up are now being used.
And I suddenly have time to sort toys and play games with the kids as I'm laid off.

And I'm only wearing trackie bottoms so no need to buy clothes!

Really want to do a big project in the garden though so that could potentially be a big expenditure.
I'll plan that well to make sure we can afford it on the single salary and if not won't do it.

StarShapedWindow · 30/03/2020 09:24

Before everything went into lockdown we bought loads of paint and yesterday I ordered a kids pool for the garden and a badminton set. When I get paid I will buy a mud kitchen and possibly a swing. I’d also like to dig a pond if we have time.

ClaraLane · 30/03/2020 09:35

Yep, I’ve bought a new vacuum cleaner. Ours has been serviced and had the battery replaced but just won’t work any more. I was hoping to limp it through for another couple of months but with all of us home for the foreseeable future plus 2 indoor cats the floors are absolutely disgusting.

I’ve also bought some crafty stuff from Amazon for DD and cat litter/scratching post for the furry monsters.

Oh and ordered some flowers for MIL and DMum to be delivered for their birthdays in May and June in case we don’t get to see them before then.

LanieM87 · 30/03/2020 09:41

I've a baby on the way and I'm very lucky to be receiving full pay as usual as I'm a key worker, I've been using online shopping to get my baby essentials and I will have to continue to do so for the foreseeable.

Milomonster · 30/03/2020 09:48

Nope not intending to spend a penny online for anything other than books. I’ve increased spending on food shopping though. The next three months will allow a period of massive (relatively speaking, of course) savings as no beauty treatments, petrol, buying lunch at work, nowhere to go to wear nice clothes.

Greendin · 30/03/2020 10:00

Yes, Easter crafts, books, baking stuff to entertain the kids, stuff I need for around the house (new sheets and a bath mat), online classes for the baby, baby food that I can't get in store. I've spent more than I would normally have spent if we weren't in lockdown. Spent about £25.00 just on the delivery.
