I’ve ordered things online for the kids and a few treat etc and seem to have spent fair bit more than usual, guess it’s some sort of attempt to feel better

No. I thought about it, but decided to keep my money. Times are going to be very, very tough.

OhioOhioOhio · 30/03/2020 00:18

No. I want the money in my pocket. And I'm worried about the Germs with stuff getting delivered.

riversideclyde · 30/03/2020 00:22

Not online. We're on a very limited income and rely on reductions and end-of-day markdowns in the supermarkets. These have just completely disappeared.

Holothane · 30/03/2020 00:29

Not really I saved up for the Hoover,

JemSynergy · 30/03/2020 00:57

No. I have cancelled my Amazon Prime, seemed pointless as everything I wanted/needed was out of stock and some of the items seemed to have a long delivery wait. Having never got round to it before and now with time on my hands I have just switched energy suppliers which will be a saving. However, one of my child's school has just decided that the children need chromebooks and we have to pay the school just over £400 for one which I really don't want to pay for right now especially when this could all go on for months. I just don't see this as a priority outlay right now.

easythere · 30/03/2020 04:57

DD2 birthday coming up as well as ALL of my siblings within 2 weeks so it's an expensive time of year for me anyway.

This year My siblings have just had cards from funky pigeon with a voucher and DD2 has had about £100 on some toys from Argos and a child's nice table and chairs which will be more useful for her and her sister now they are at home more.

Now all that's done though I don't plan to spend anymore for a while.
No need for takeaways or anything like that as my chef DH is actually home to cook!
We're being a bit more frugal with food too. So much waste usually but I think we have been quite good.

minimummum · 30/03/2020 05:06

Yes. Confused. Retail therapy

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 30/03/2020 05:07

Yes. Although part of that was not being at work and having headspace to remember birthdays in good time.

Mimishimi · 30/03/2020 05:08

No, I'm on a spending lockdown due to losing all my hair and makeup work for next few months.

RhymingRabbit3 · 30/03/2020 05:12

I have a new baby si have ordered some things, but certainly less than I would have if things were normal.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 30/03/2020 05:42

A few plants and some grout for the patio as that really needs doing.

There doesn't feel like a lot of point in buying clothes and make up etc.

Casino218 · 30/03/2020 05:45

Nope because I think that every time I order some unnecessary crap I risk someone else's life. Some poor bugger has to deliver this.

CookPassBabtridge · 30/03/2020 06:11

It's annoying that we aren't able to save money in this situation as all we spent money on before was food and essential items anyway so nothing has changed!

AnnaFiveTowns · 30/03/2020 06:16

No. It doesn't feel right to be making people work in shit conditions just so we can sit at home ordering non-essentials.

Slipslide2020 · 30/03/2020 06:16

@Casino218 same!

EffOrf · 30/03/2020 06:18

Paint from F&B for the hall, I guess we would have bought that anyway but lockdown is a good opportunity to do it.

Just before we went into lockdown DH spent £££ on a bike turbo trainer

BlackCatSleeping · 30/03/2020 06:18

No, not at all. What are you buying? I thought it was essentials only at the moment.

EffOrf · 30/03/2020 06:21

However, one of my child's school has just decided that the children need chromebooks and we have to pay the school just over £400 for one which I really don't want to pay for right now especially when this could all go on for months. I just don't see this as a priority outlay right now.

Thats a bit of an outlay at a time when people are losing jobs or going to 80% pay

Notopel · 30/03/2020 06:28

I bought a trampoline.

In fairness, I was going to buy one later in the year as my DS has wanted one since his birthday last August. I was out of work at the time and he had to have a fairly low key birthday instead. It seemed like the ideal time to make the purchase as the weather has been nice, and he’ll need some way to blow off steam for the next few weeks.

chomalungma · 30/03/2020 06:39

The only thing I got online was a PC for DS so he could do his school work (and play games)

Other than that - no.

TBH - I don't think that online shops that have to have workers going to them should really be open now unless they are essential.

Other opiions vary - but I struggle with the police telling off lone walkers on the Peak District and at the same time, people are working in online retailers that have large warehouses sending out non essential items.

Bear2014 · 30/03/2020 06:44

We have had to shell out a fair bit on work from home and home school stuff including a home printer and have bought a few garden games but will be saving our money now. Certainly no need to buy new clothes Confused

Mooserp · 30/03/2020 06:56

I want to get a large spanner to fix a radiator but was debating whether it was deemed 'essential'.

Frownette · 30/03/2020 07:02

I've had stomach problems with resultant loss of appetite so replacement meal drinks and probiotics, a DVD player for entertainment when I realised I am likely to be here 3 months (not at home)

marblesgoing · 30/03/2020 07:04

A pc and printer set up at the end of feb to help me with work and dc with school stuff

On 80% pay now and dh luckily on full pay for two months but after that both 80% so really tightened up here.

About to do a food shop to hopefully last two to theee weeks apart from fresh top up

The petrol budgets dropped by £150 a month and we've got one more holiday payment to make and that will be over £300 less spent per month.
As we are home am trying to meal plan and save about &200 off monthly good spends and normally would spend £75-£100 a month on brekkie or coffee out so hopefully will get a bit saved as it's going to be very rough waters now for this country

BasilDiffuser · 30/03/2020 07:10

I spent a fair whack on birthday presents for DD. She was so excited for her party and I’m heartbroken it’s had to be cancelled so I over compensated a bit.
