Crafty activities - what are you making?

I have got lots of half-done knitting, a cross-stitch I really don't want to continue (all the counting makes me...cross) and at least two different quilting projects - all long neglected and if work/home-ed would just calm down for five minutes I'd like to pick some of them back up.

What are you planning on making? New or something that's been waiting a while for your attention?

I’m knitting a simple blanket while I’m on conference calls - I have autism and ADHD and it helps me focus.

I’ve also downloaded a pattern for a crochet octopus that I really want to try when I have a few hours free at the weekend.

WeShouldBeFriends · 25/03/2020 21:47

I've been cutting squares from (intentionally) felted jumpers to make a blanket. I doubt I'll ever sew them together though!

choppolata · 25/03/2020 21:47

I have a crochet blanket that is about 12% complete, I'm hoping to get that finished. Also planning to have a good play around with the sewing machine I got a few months back. Maybe even try to organise my various stashes! Halo

CakeAndGin · 25/03/2020 21:48

Lego Harry Potter - the great hall. I don’t know if that counts as craft.

I also plan on doing a painting that I’ve been meaning to do for four years...

MutteringDarkly · 25/03/2020 21:57

Everything counts Lego very definitely included.

Looking fwd to hearing how the octopus goes.

Also feeling less alone that many of you have projects that have been waiting patiently for "a while" Grin

I may finally finish a cross stitch I've had on the go for about 10 years. Also knitting hats. Lots of hats.

LemonRedwood · 26/03/2020 20:16

I've gone from having one crochet WIP to four:
(in descending order of how long they've been sitting in my wip bag)

  • A blue cotton cardigan
  • A stone coloured wool cardigan
  • A scarf that I started yesterday in a beautiful gradient courtesy of Cygnet's Boho Spirit colour change yarn
  • A beautiful blanket CAL from crystals & crochet. I'm mostly using up my stash but obviously had to order a bit more Blush My starting colour arrived with the post and a just couldn't wait to get started!

I also finished a couple of amigurumi stuffed animals that have been sitting on the shelf for a couple of months.

It's keeping me sane

TwoZeroTwoZero · 26/03/2020 20:19

I'm going to make some seaside bunting for the glorified shed summerhouse when I can hold of some nice fabric with lighthouses, beach huts and sailing boats on.

AutumnRose1 · 26/03/2020 20:21

I bought a cross stitch but can’t get into it

I also bought a book about teaching myself to draw. I am DIRE but today, to my amazement, I wasn’t quite as bad as I thought I’d be.

Though I despair of ever doing a decent curve or sphere.

Sorry, does drawing count? 😳

I am thinking to find some origami tutorials on YouTube but they’ll have to be easy!

QuentinWinters · 26/03/2020 20:25

Oh God I have so many WIPs but still bought loads of charm packs off etsy at the weekend. I have issues!
I have 1x crochet shawl, nearly finished
1x sewing of a summer dress, done the bodice and got annoyed with the sizing and lost the will to finish it
1xcrochet dress that I want to frog and start again
And the material is for a quilt for DP and obviously because I haven't started yet that's the one I want to do most!
I also have loads of yarn and a spinning kit to do Blush

CrochetBug · 26/03/2020 20:26

Ive got a billion and one half started projects. Planning on finishing them. Currently working on this

BitOfFun · 26/03/2020 20:40

I'm making a baby quilt for a friend. Need to pull my finger out and get it finished!

drspouse · 26/03/2020 20:44

A scrappy cotton jumper for DD. I made the same pattern for DS when he was 1 and she's 5 now so I was pleased to see the pattern goes larger as I had a load of yarn left.

TheLarkDescending · 27/03/2020 00:03

I just bought more yarn Blush

I do not need more yarn. I do not really have room for more yarn.

But... I have one blanket I’ve been itching to make, now I’ve figured out how to crochet, And there was a special deal on the most insanely colourful yarn.

Brooksey5 · 27/03/2020 00:12

I’m knitting a baby cardigan. I’ve never knitted anything more than a scarf before. It’s a lace pattern and the patterns just starting to show 😁😁

I was going to give it to my boss who’s wife’s expecting. I found out this evening that the I work for will be letting a sizeable number of people go in the next few days. I’m not sure what’ll happen to me or my little baby’s cardigan 😔

Wow that's beautiful! I'm so sorry that work is very uncertain Sad

I too should be working through cupboards already bursting with yarn/fabric, but keep finding myself browsing the Liberty online sale...nope, still too pricey. Oo but what about supporting my local independents struggling to survive online? That's morally saintlike, right?!

QuentinWinters · 27/03/2020 08:38

Yep. In these dark times they need money Grin

SoupDragon · 27/03/2020 08:41

I'm not sure I'm allowed to post what I'm making here as it's a Virus shawl 😂😂

Its a rainbow cake of yarn and I'm now working from orange to yellow but this is an earlier photo.

QuentinWinters · 27/03/2020 08:44

Oh I love virus. I did it as a blanket a while ago

MutteringDarkly · 27/03/2020 08:45

GrinGrin love it!

SoupDragon · 27/03/2020 08:47

It's been on my mental list of things to do and I thought now was appropriate for some reason... 🤔

I have LOADS of WIPs I could have finished instead though.

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 28/03/2020 00:27

Scrapbooking. I have eleventy-billion photos to scrap, so that should keep me going during lockdown.

Cross-stitch. I don't even like the finished article, but it stops me grazing while watching TV.

Intrigued by the crochet octopus!

AutumnRose1 · 28/03/2020 10:50

Eleventy billion will keep you busy!

Has anyone else learned to draw from scratch? Any ideas how long it takes to be able to draw, for example, an apple? (don't say ten thousand hours please!)

drspouse · 28/03/2020 12:32

My mum has learned to draw at an art class since retirement; her still life is excellent (but people are a work in progress).

drspouse · 28/03/2020 12:33

Now doing some mending: the DCs' fabric book hanger, DS trouser knees, not so exciting but essential.
I must have a look at that virus, am more likely to use a blanket than a shawl.
