When do you think this crisis will be over?

So we are on “lockdown” for three weeks. Do you think in three weeks time this will be lifted or reduced or do you think it’ll be extended and possibly even tightened?

I was hoping maybe we would maybe have some sort of normality back by end of June / beginning of July?

Do you think it will be sorted in time for Christmas?

It’s a worrying time for everyone. Just wish everybody would stick to the rules put in place.

I think it will last three months

ChequerBoard · 25/03/2020 17:33

No one has a crystal ball capable of answering that question. If they could they would be advising every government on the planet right now.

To use the hurricane analogy, what is very clear to me is that we are not in the 'eye' of the storm yet. The wind is blowing hard and we are battening down the hatches in preparation, but we can't even see the twister yet.

KaronAVyrus · 25/03/2020 17:38

I think it will go on longer.
No one really knows but it will become unsustainable after 6 weeks. Humans are social animals and it will be extremely difficult mentally for lots of people.

Better than dying.

dalmatianmad · 25/03/2020 17:42

My medical colleagues some of which work in medical research are predicting this to go for several more months yet (end of the year) but who knows?

TheOtherSideOfTheMountain · 25/03/2020 17:44

3-6 months

M0recakeplease · 25/03/2020 17:44

I think June - based on Yuhan who had strict lockdown from 23rd Jan to 8 April when full lock down lifted. That’s c10 weeks. We’re a bit more relaxed you could add a few more weeks.

Caramel78 · 25/03/2020 17:46

I think autumn time

IceKitten · 25/03/2020 17:46

It will get worse for the next 2-3 weeks (judging from Italy). Then things may start to level off.

fourpeasinapod · 25/03/2020 17:46

@m0recakeplease oh I do hope so. Absolutely hating this being stuck in the house lark, although I’m sure I speak for the entire nation

If the antibody home testing kits are rolled out, people with the antibodies will be able to go out and about a lot sooner I would have thought..

crazydiamond222 · 25/03/2020 17:47

Based on the imperial model the first lockdown will last until June. There will be a second lockdown next autumn. Might get a couple of months of semi fredom in the summer.

WhatAboutMeeee · 25/03/2020 17:50

I'm going to go against everyone, I think this will be over a lot sooner than everyone is expecting...I'm hoping so

ValleyoftheHorses · 25/03/2020 17:50

I think we’ll go on tighter lockdown with no exercise (people are taking the piss) next week. Hoping we can still can still go into the garden but that’s not a certainty. Also anyone who is not a key/ essential worker will have to stay at home.
Then lockdown until end of June.
July and August better, then by October rolling closures as the virus comes back at us over winter.
By this time next year there will be a vaccine.
Summer 2021 onwards is when life will be normal again.

fourpeasinapod · 25/03/2020 17:52

@WhatAboutMeeee I’ll cross my fingers. I am never taking a single thing for granted again once this is over.

I can only imagine what life would have been like in the U.K. under Nazi rule. Obviously that would be way worse than this but it kinda made me thought about how lucky we all are to have the freedom we have in normal circumstances.

Full on lock down for 3 weeks, then they'll lift restrictions, we'll all socialise some more and then there will be a second peak early summer.

Snog · 25/03/2020 17:57

We can't stay locked down for more than a certain time frame due to the economy, the remedy will become worse than the disease. This is why Trump is panicking already. The UK will hold out longer than Trump but we won't keep it going more than a very few months in my opinion.

CatLady789 · 25/03/2020 17:58

Personally I believe that this will be over as quick as it started, but people need to start cooperating and doing what they are advised to do. X

Ihatesundays · 25/03/2020 17:59

Hopefully antibody testing will be rolled out soon.
The fact it is being fairly stable is good news for a vaccine sooner.

Spied · 25/03/2020 18:01

We'll be hitting the peak in three weeks and God knows how long we will be going through that and how long it will take for numbers to come down.
I'm expecting a more normal 'normal' Sept/Oct.
Well, I'm hoping.

helpfulperson · 25/03/2020 18:01

I think once they get quick and easy testing in place we will get it under control fairly quickly because we will know who has it. I think the restrictions on those who test positive however will be very stringent.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 25/03/2020 18:01

I'm going to appreciate going to the shops and just getting stuff. Not worrying, just getting on. Mundane stuff.
Oh, and school. I have always been appreciative of my children's school teacher. Three days of home ed - good grief.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 25/03/2020 18:02

Wrong thread. Ooops.

Why on earth wouldn't we be allowed in out gardens??

fourpeasinapod · 25/03/2020 18:03

@Greysparkles if we weren’t allowed into our gardens I don’t think I could cope. Nor a lot of people for that matter, flip, it’s awful just thinking about it.
