When do you think this crisis will be over?

So we are on “lockdown” for three weeks. Do you think in three weeks time this will be lifted or reduced or do you think it’ll be extended and possibly even tightened?

I was hoping maybe we would maybe have some sort of normality back by end of June / beginning of July?

Do you think it will be sorted in time for Christmas?

It’s a worrying time for everyone. Just wish everybody would stick to the rules put in place.

We have a holiday booked for very end of June-its whats keeping me going at the minute!!! Hope things will be getting back to normal then.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 25/03/2020 19:04

I think it’s going to start rising really fast, peak for a few days then suddenly start dropping.

I hope 3 months max.

ValleyoftheHorses · 25/03/2020 19:13

No one wants stricter measures but I want it over and the sooner we get strict about mixing, the sooner it is over.
I have friends living under lockdown in other countries, most are stricter than we are.
Sorry your mental health is suffering. It is really hard.
Dying of COVID 19 is also really hard, it is not a nice way to die.
The whole thing is horrible, no one thinks otherwise but it’s time to get tough to stop it spreading.
I do hope gardens are allowed though!

ShirleyPhallus · 25/03/2020 19:13

I am really hoping it will be a very short term thing but that entirely depends on the British public

It is literally our choice on how long this takes by how we behave. So if people keep acting like idiots and not taking it seriously it will last far longer than it needs to.

LargeGinOnTap · 25/03/2020 19:13

12 weeks from last week so 11 weeks to go . Which takes us back to 2 weeks after May half term. Schools to be back before summer but no real learning will happen just going work they were doing whilst they were off plus usual end of term activities.

Country getting back to normal for the summer holidays. With a second peak in the autumn unsure if that will be as severe or not

Matildathehun77 · 25/03/2020 19:15

We really don't know do we. I hate threads like this because it brings out the competitive gloom spreaders:
I think it will be six months
No a year
Two years
Forever
Actually the world's ending!!

I think what we have in our favour is that other countries are ahead of us and scientific breakthroughs are already being made. Several things could tip the balance in our favour and end this more speedily than we think:
Improved testing..... better, cheaper, more readily available.
Better treatments
A better understanding of how the virus operates, spreads etc
And of course a vaccine.

Personally my guess would be a semblance of normality by May/June time (possibly School’s allowed to open in less affected areas) but then we'll have another small intervention needed at some point when figures start to rise again.

It's all just guesswork though.

I think the government will go all out to try and stop it for about three months. But if that doesn’t work, I think they will try to move things back to “normal”. They will be looking at other countries trying to figure out how to come out of this ahead of them economically. America is already doing it.

Also there is a lot of popular will for lockdown, distancing etc at the moment but I don’t know how long it will last. The government cannot literally make people comply - we don’t have enough police or army. They would lift the lockdown before it gets to the point where civil order breaks down.

Neither of them are nice scenarios. Ultimately a combination of testing and a vaccine will eventually beat it, but I don’t think it will be resolved before summer 2021.

FourDecades · 25/03/2020 19:37

I don't think schools will go back this academic year.

I think we will be on lockdown for longer then 3 weeks.

I think we will have restrictions lifted and reapplied according to how the ITU beds are faring.

Fairywater · 25/03/2020 19:44

I think schools will open again after May half-term for a short term maybe 4 weeks and long 8 week summer holidays. From September they might close off schools periodically until a vaccine or treatment is found.

Daisiest · 25/03/2020 19:46

I don't think schools will be back until September. I think we will start seeing a difference about August time

DownWhichOfLate · 25/03/2020 19:59

If there was any chance of schools reopening before summer then GCSEs and A Levels wouldn’t have been cancelled.

GemmaTellerMorrow · 25/03/2020 20:15

I've just been granted an extra 6 months on my car MOT so I think we're going to be in rolling lockdowns for a while yet.

I expect that if the infection level drops, tests become available etc, then businesses will be able to reopen. Then we reach another peak, another lockdown, rinse and repeat.

What we're doing at the moment in our house is really taking note of things we use all the time, yes the fabled loo roll and pasta, but also toiletries, pet food, tonic water. We'll try to prepare ahead of time for future lockdowns, no panic buying.

bumblingbovine49 · 25/03/2020 20:23

I think the lockdown restrictions will work to bring down infections so that the NHS can cope within a month . After that we will (hopeful that) have a quick test to see if we have had it and we will really ramp up testing for infected people. That will mean we can loosen up things for many people and get back to semi normal. Then we will get a reasonably effective drug treatment..So back to semi normal within 3 months. Not totally normal ( in that down people will still need to isolate and many people will still need to practice some level of social distancing) until a vaccine is available

LynetteScavo · 25/03/2020 20:31

My County Council have emailed me to refund next terms school bus fees that I've already paid. They obviously don't think any children are going back to school before September.

Silversun83 · 25/03/2020 22:31

I've heard from a reputable source that they're preparing for schools to not even go back in September Confused

Likewise with universities.

fedup21 · 25/03/2020 22:33

This doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

colouringinpro · 25/03/2020 22:42

silversun really? definitely reliable? fuck.

twinkledag · 25/03/2020 22:46

When do you think we'll be able to fly again?

OlaEliza · 25/03/2020 23:00

So we are on “lockdown” for three weeks. Do you think in three weeks time this will be lifted or reduced or do you think it’ll be extended and possibly even tightened

I think it will be 2.5-3 months.

TrainspottingWelsh · 25/03/2020 23:05

I think the current guidelines will last longer than 3 weeks, but I don't see the current problems for the economy being allowed to continue for more than a couple of months.

At the moment the government have decided the deaths and suffering that will be caused by harming the economy are the lesser evil. But if it carries on indefinitely the cure will be worse than the cause.

I don't necessarily think we'll all be back in crowds as usual in a few months, but I would expect enough restrictions lifted to start the economy ticking over.

torthecatlady · 25/03/2020 23:30

I'm guessing 4-5 months but I have nothing to base that on!

Gilead · 25/03/2020 23:32

I had a an email from my consultant today to say that I’m extremely high risk and not to go out for 12 weeks, not even for shopping, so perhaps longer for some of us, than others?

Crunchymum · 25/03/2020 23:44

DC3 falls into the vulnerable group.

So even if by some miracle the older kids school reopened before our 12 week quarantine is over (Mid June) I won't be sending them back.
