When do you think this crisis will be over?

So we are on “lockdown” for three weeks. Do you think in three weeks time this will be lifted or reduced or do you think it’ll be extended and possibly even tightened?

I was hoping maybe we would maybe have some sort of normality back by end of June / beginning of July?

Do you think it will be sorted in time for Christmas?

It’s a worrying time for everyone. Just wish everybody would stick to the rules put in place.

I'm hoping for life to look more normal by September. I'm not convinced that schools and social groups will be up and running before then. I'm guessing waves of restrictions coming and going until then to manage the peaks of medical care and build up of herd immunity.

I can handle this soft lockdown while the weather is good. I would find a hard lockdown much more difficult. I just hope that unsociable, sociable eejits don't blow it for the people who are co-operating.

There is nothing in my calendar between now and deferred events in September.

TheReluctantCountess · 25/03/2020 18:05

I don’t think schools will be back before September.

fourpeasinapod · 25/03/2020 18:05

Does anybody think schools will actually return by September in time for the new academic year?

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 25/03/2020 18:07

I agree Countess.

MoonlightMistletoe · 25/03/2020 18:07

I think these next three weeks are going to be very tough for many however it's going to get worse before it gets better so I think it will be around 3-6months before things start to slowly get back to normal.

edwinbear · 25/03/2020 18:08

I reckon schools will be back after May half term latest. Certainly DC’s private school expect to be open end April/beginning of May. They need to be to continue claiming fees.

fourpeasinapod · 25/03/2020 18:10

@edwinbear tbh I honestly don’t think schools will re open before this academic year ends. I think it’ll be at least September before the kids return.

Based on the government’s predictions on this, I don’t think they’ll be able to open so soon

Not going to get better anytime soon...not until airports are closed to all and only 'necessary' goods allowed as freight

At least 12 weeks from now, and mandatory testing (2-3 clear tests) spaced over 6 weeks - and then maybe allow people out of home quarantine.

Ongoing precautions social boundarying for a further 6 months so by October we could be leaning towards 'normal' life again but braced for Covid 20 as cold weather hits again in winter- I hate it all and won't ever take anything for granted again

It really is unknown . . I actually don't have faith the government will impose a stricter lockdown but I do this the current measures will be in place for three months minimum.

fourpeasinapod · 25/03/2020 18:17

@Claricethecat45 no me neither. I genuinely think this will change a lot of people’s attitudes for the better. Unless you’re elderly there’s no way anybody has experienced this before in their lifetime.

It’s all new and weird to us. Can’t wait for it to be over. But I think once this is over a lot of people (myself included) will feel anxious for a while

ValleyoftheHorses · 25/03/2020 18:21

In some countries not allowed outside at all. However most of UK has gardens big enough to allow good distancing, maybe stricter in cities?
For us the garden and trampoline is keeping DS sane so would hate that to change.
However we are quite rural and only saw 4 people on our walk today, passed with a much greater than 2m distance.

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2020 18:21

I suspect it might be longer than three weeks. The chief scientific officer just said they have not shut all companies and want people to go to work who are non essential because it may go on for a long time and the economy would crash, the modelling was done with this in mind.

However how much longer than three weeks depends on what happens with treatments and testing, they are having some success with treatments now, both on patients critical and patients mild. Different treatments depending on what stage.

The who conference has just been on and they want it sorted so no resurgence. He said no country wants to release people then shut them down again because it resurges.

Wannabangbang · 25/03/2020 18:23

I think we will get a stricter lock down as a lot of people are still not following what they've been told and i think that will last 3 months

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2020 18:23

mandatory testing (2-3 clear tests) spaced over 6 weeks - and then maybe allow people out of home quarantine

That’s not how the testing works, it’s antibodies to see if you have had it and have immunity that will release you.

fluffiphlox · 25/03/2020 18:24

It will all be over by Christmas - oh no sorry, that was the Great War. But yeah, Christmas.

Curdsandwhey · 25/03/2020 18:26

The reason the lockdown has worked in China is because people seem to be doing what they're told a lot more, and also some of the things they've done are questionable on human rights grounds.

There's far more ignoring the rules in this country, lots of people out and about etc. That's going to make our situation even worse and much harder to control. Even if the police start arresting people, they can't be everywhere at once. There's always going to be someone who says stuff the rules, I'm going out. So that puts is in a lot more danger.

Our lockdown will get stricter soon, and will last for a minimum of three months just for a start.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/03/2020 18:37

Maybe I’m having a very negative day, but I really can’t see when it will be over. It’s not settling. It’s getting worse. It’s not just those with underlying Health issues that are succumbing to this deadly virus. A young girl with no underlying issues aged just 21 has sadly and very tragically passed away. THere fore that “Oh if you’re young and Otherwise Healthy you’ll be okay” chestnut has gone out of the window.
Am I right in thinking our Government are still letting people fly in here. (apologies if I’m wrong on that one)
Public Transport which must be absolutely jam packed (Well you must have seen pictures of the Tube) is apparently okay to use.Confused. Yet people can’t meet up with their friends.
People are still allowed to go out and jog.!!
I could go on and on.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 25/03/2020 18:39

Some "normality" by September. Things largely back to normal next year? Economic fallout will be huge.

starsparkle08 · 25/03/2020 18:46

What on earth is wrong with some people wanting to go even stricter with things so we can’t even go for a walk !!
Suggesting we should be unable to use our gardens is just ridiculous.

What about food shopping ?
Do the people who want these measures all live in huge houses with huge gardens and indoor swimming pools ? If so we’ll lucky you . Most of the population have small to average size homes, some in flats others with tiny gardens

I have a son with autism adhd and learning difficulties , this situation is a nightmare for most people and I no myself I can’t cope at the moment . My mental health is suffering so much and I feel suicidal - I have long standing mental health problems which are becoming worse every day . My social worker is trying hard to get me some support but as my sons behaviour is so severe this is proving very difficult as his specialist school won’t take him as they can’t stay 2 m away from him . I’m completely stuck

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 25/03/2020 18:52

If everyone follows the guidance and stays away frommech other, 13-14 weeks.

As there are people ignoring those guidelines it'll take 6-12 months.

WhatAboutMeeee · 25/03/2020 18:52

Not a chance will they lockdown so that you can not go into your garden Hmm they might get together, i.e key workers only to work.

I too will never take anything for granted; I'll never complain about going to work or doing the school run

AnneJeanne · 25/03/2020 18:56

I agree with those who believe this will be over fairly quickly. I have no reason to believe this, just a gut feeling.

Redlocks30 · 25/03/2020 18:57

I reckon schools will be back after May half term latest. Certainly DC’s private school expect to be open end April/beginning of May

I think they are being extremely naive if they really think they’ll be open then!

safariboot · 25/03/2020 18:57

Hard to say. We'll know more once we reach the inflection point - when the number of cases and deaths daily starts to drop rather than rise.

The consequences will be felt for years to come.
