If there's total lockdown, can I order takeaway food?

And like our Amazon courier, when you say "oh, you're working then" they all say "yeah thank fuck" because being made redundant /finished/laid off right now is not going to help them is it? Which is the alternative.

meonekton · 23/03/2020 20:27

I think having a takeaway is fine if all the people are young and well enough, and if you are aware of the risks. Personally I think it's stupid idea, but not everyone has same opinions, and not everyone faces same risks.

Tootletum · 23/03/2020 20:27

Why wouldn't that be allowed. It's food, it's not a few lines of coke.

TheCanterburyWhales · 23/03/2020 20:28

Exactly Pink.

meonekton · 23/03/2020 20:35

Pink, you can say that, but you can also say a small business surviving or few thousand people dying. You never know. That is the problem, and scary thing about this.

Rosehip10 · 23/03/2020 20:50

Most takeaways are closing.

Aesopfable · 23/03/2020 21:03

What about things like kids shoes? They don’t sound essential but kids grown out of shoes quite quickly and completely so could end up shoe-less which makes exercise difficult. If we are in lockdown for months then a lot of under tens could end up barefoot.

Jaxhog · 23/03/2020 21:04

Seriously? Thousands are about to die, and you're worried about a takeaway?

Jaxhog · 23/03/2020 21:07

*Everything that comes in from outside gets dettol / antibac ...

I wish I could do that. Unfortunately, some greedy bastards bought it all, so we couldn't get any.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 23/03/2020 21:29

Well I hope so because we are self isolating because one of the dc have symptoms and we will run out of food before the 14 days is up.

I can't get an online shopping delivery, I've tried so takeaway is going to be my only option.

Aesopfable · 23/03/2020 21:44

I guess delivery drivers will be essential because many of their deliveries are: food, medicines, basic clothing. But the online shops that are sending the deliveries might not be so they may close.

tiredanddangerous · 23/03/2020 21:45

I hope they will still be open. Not because I’m “worried about a take away” but because the supermarket shelves are empty. What else am I supposed to eat?

Pedallleur · 23/03/2020 21:59

Ring one and see. It maybe they deliver or you go and collect and pay contactless. May only allow 2 or 3 people in. But is it essential?

Whatdayisit2 · 23/03/2020 22:26

Why would you want to? Isn't there still a risk from having others prepare it?

JockTamsonsBairns · 24/03/2020 01:02

See, I wonder if this is a regional thing? Are your supermarket shelves actually empty? I'm in Yorkshire and, while some stuff is fairly low in stock, the vast majority of stuff is available. Pasta, tins of beans etc, are being limited to three per customer, but otherwise there's plenty of food. That's across Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and the co-op.

ScarlettBlaize · 24/03/2020 07:31

@JockTamsonsBairns we're in isolation so can't buy the food that is in the shops! We have loads of Turkish, Indian, Persian etc. shops which are full of fruit and veg and everything else, but I'm not allowed to go and get it Confused

GatoradeMeBitch · 24/03/2020 11:34

No more so than buying most fresh food at a supermarket. Same set up. Ready meals and bakery products aren't put together in a sterilized lab.

tiredanddangerous · 24/03/2020 11:47

Yes they are actually empty @JockTamsonsBairns. No tins or packets of anything, no eggs no potatoes, no bread products at all, minimal green veg and fruit, no salad, no meat.

KatherineJaneway · 24/03/2020 12:39

JockTamsonsBairns · 24/03/2020 16:45

@tiredanddangerous that's what made me wonder if it's regional for whatever reason? I've been to Tesco's this morning, and it's well stocked again.

CoffeeHere · 24/03/2020 16:47

I think it's still unnecessary risk - new germs coming into the house. Delivery drivers having to fill up.woth petrol etc.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 24/03/2020 16:59

JockTamsonsBairns

I'm in west Yorkshire in basically the most deprived city in the region. The only way we got enough food, including fresh veg etc, was to join the NHS hour at tesco and Sunday, the car park was literally full and social distancing went out the window. Apparently it's been much the same everyday where you have to go first thing and join the chaos to get any chance of a proper shop.

Our takeaways are still open. I've had shit loads of texts from them telling me they're open and how they're managing deliveries.

SidsWife · 24/03/2020 17:05

I ordered dominos yesterday, clocked the contact free option and left instructions for the driver to leave it in the porch. He still banged on my door and handed it all to me. Waste of time.

MermaidinJeans · 24/03/2020 17:38

Yes. Takeaways are still open. Just no collection .

threatmatrix · 24/03/2020 17:42

Toys??? I’ve tea it all now
