If there's total lockdown, can I order takeaway food?

You misread my post op, I was saying they CAN go out.

Thereflex9 · 23/03/2020 19:26

@TangoWhisky it's a very valid question for those who cannot get food right now. If you can't get a food delivery, can't get to the shop and don't have anyone to bring you food shopping, what else would you suggest?

My sister is in this very situation. Or do you advocate for her, showing all the symptoms, to nip down to Tesco where she could infect someone else? Or should she just not eat for 14 days? No online grocery delivery slots anywhere.

TangoWhisky · 23/03/2020 19:26

The cat isn't going to lick the milk carton or the tin of beans 😂

HedgehogDramas · 23/03/2020 19:26

Not take away related but the SKY engineer turned up today when I was convinced that it would've been cancelled as I thought it wasn't an essential visit. It was booked weeks ago. He said that they were classed as Key Workers. Didn't fix it but there you go!!

lifeisgoodmostofthetime · 23/03/2020 19:26

No takeaways will be open. Not seen as essential food supply.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/03/2020 19:26

I'm in Italy and have been on lockdown for a month. We had takeaway pizza last night! Lots of pizza places have shut and others have gone to takeaway only so it felt right to support them otherwise they would go out of business. I guess if it was dangerous they would shut down?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/03/2020 19:27

I know about pet care. Thank you

You might but not everyone does Hmm

Pishposhpashy · 23/03/2020 19:28

My cat licks anything she can get her paws on. I've watched her nibble my laptop.

Pishposhpashy · 23/03/2020 19:29

I genuinely don't see how it is more risky to get a takeaway than go to the supermarket, can anyone explain?

I'm an excellent cook btw, but sometimes I CBA and fancy a takeaway.

Mine doesn't like but rubs around everything! No way would I risk him getting near Dettol.

TangoWhisky · 23/03/2020 19:30

@Thereflex9
Do what you want. Its a risk. Thats all i suggested. No need to be rude

Neighbours. Friends... Local facebook group, On here. There are options.
My local facebook have 4 groups i know of where people will help you if you are in need.

Im in isolation.
Its doable without takeaways.

All do what you want

I feel sorry for the take away drivers / workers

ZandathePanda · 23/03/2020 19:30

PinkSparklyPussyCat wow what a horrendous comment to someone who has just lost relatives.
I am spraying all packaging from the supermarket. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that if you can get the virus from a handshake, you can get it from food packaging or food surfaces. The figure I have heard is 48hours but I doubt that’s testable. Certainly when I did microbiology modules that would seem reasonable.

Tango so sorry you have had multiple losses from this Flowers

meonekton · 23/03/2020 19:31

Scarlet, same for me. I have temp and cough, my dh has cough, my dc is ok, but I don't think I can send them shopping, too young, and weak immune system due to chronic illness.
Am I a tool? No, I am not. We have a lot of stock of everything, but never block bought anything. As part of crisis management for having a child with chronic illness, we have been preparing for this since first heard of this cv.

Namechangervaver · 23/03/2020 19:31

Jesus Christ, I might get Coronavirus from the packaging from the supermarket but no one is saying don't go! I may get it from the Ocado delivery driver or the supermarket worker!

Yeah but surely you cook the food from the supermarket, which will kill the virus. Somebody cooking your takeaway with Corona virus could have coughed in the vicinity of your food.

Like you say, each to their own. I won't be ordering takeaways during this pandemic. Why does every one get so angry on Mumsnet when it's just a discussion? Do what you want.

TangoWhisky · 23/03/2020 19:32

Get take away
Dont get take away

Everything that comes in from outside gets dettol / antibac .... Nothing is near the cat. Shes 16. We havent killed her yet

ZandathePanda · 23/03/2020 19:34

Thereflex9 Morrison’s are doing food boxes if that will help? I have just done a shop for a neighbour who has it.

Pishposhpashy · 23/03/2020 19:34

I genuinely think I will actually go completely insane if I start anti baccing everything that comes in from outside. I've literally been inside for a week but I can't live like that, I'm sorry.

TeddyIsaHe · 23/03/2020 19:34

Takeaway drivers are generally self employed, so they probably want a wage rather than sympathy tbh.

We have literally nothing else good going on at the moment, I can’t begrudge anyone for having a takeaway if it makes them happy, or takes their mind off this for a moment.

ZandathePanda · 23/03/2020 19:35

Our cat gave us giardiasis once. That was not fun.

TangoWhisky · 23/03/2020 19:36

@ZandathePanda Thank you

allfurcoatnoknickers · 23/03/2020 19:37

I'm in NYC, we're on lockdown and you can get take out. In fact, I'm eating more takeout than I usually do because I want to support my local restaurants Hmm in these horrific times.

They're also doing take-away booze. So you can get Margarita to go from the local Mexican joint Grin

TangoWhisky · 23/03/2020 19:37

@Pishposhpashy

Noone is asking you too.

I just said i am.

There's not loads from the outside. Because we are self isolating and have been for over a week

CloudyVanilla · 23/03/2020 19:38

Stupid first world problem question but will shops in general still be able to deliver online? Like amazon and IKEA etc?

ZandathePanda · 23/03/2020 19:39

Also I noticed the bread that was left was the own brand bakery stuff that they handle on site. So people must be on the same wavelength as me. Give me factory automated robot-handled bread please!

Notwiththeseknees · 23/03/2020 19:39

Certainly no delivery drivers where I am in a town in France. Some restaurants have changed their operations to take away so they can keep some staff on, but they must be booked in advance by phone and collected by the customer. They are all shut at 18.00 apart from the Indian restaurant. Food suppliers are essential, delivery drivers are not (here). It'll be really interesting when proper lockdown arrives in the UK.
