Here continues the tale of the Robbing Butcher, his whimsical opening hours, and TheMustressMhor's daily quest for his finest produce.

7 that made me laugh! We also sometimes refer to her as the first pancake!

PenguinOrHippo · 31/03/2020 07:42

7 , so sorry you are having a hard time. I never breastfed to sleep (was warned by friend), but Little Hippo always fell asleep on me and slept in my bed. The two times I tried to let her cry out, she got so angry she got a nose bleed and I had to change the whole cot. The one thing I can think of is having a very specific schedule during the day, nap at lunch and no afternoon nap (but you may be doing that)? For us, as long as we had a bit of an evening, I was ok with the co-sleeping part.

yolo, so sorry to hear that. I think everyone is on edge these days. And being constantly on top of each other is hard, no matter how much you love them. I bribe and threat the little hippos to make them do things (no cake if they don’t, bit of tv/film if they do). Would it work at all to give her a daily list and access to the WiFi password after (change daily)? Maybe doing the chores together would be a way for her to talk about her worries? And help her? Never mind me if it is a bad idea, I have no experience of teenagers. My oldest is 11. Big Cake and Wine.

Thank you Mustress . We will get through it somehow, but there will be evening drinks required. It is so hard! I laughed at your post on Mr Mhors’ hair by the way. Mr Hippo has told me that he will be going for the surfer dude look rather than letting me near his hair. I had a try a LittleBoyHippo a few years ago, we are all still scarred....

So tempted to run "the dog's pancake" past elder DD! Brilliant phrase.
When it came to sleeping she certainly was.

I make light of it now, but it was a nightmare at the time. The only thing that improved her (and this may seem a touch drastic, I realise) was the appearance of her little sister, when elder DD was 18 months.

Thankfully, she adored her from the off so - instead of lying in her bed, screeching her head off, when she woke - she'd amble through to her sister's room and stroke her through the cot bars. Luckily, younger DD seemed to like this.

They're still really close, which is nice.

LaMarschallin · 31/03/2020 09:34

yolo

Hoping for better times for you with DD today.

I too was a right little so-and-so on occasion in my late teens.
Certainly remember one time especially when my parents were doing their absolute best for me and I let rip in a really horrible way.
Even though I knew they were doing their absolute best!

I still remember and regret it now.

I suspect your DD may be regretting it already.

LaMarschallin · 31/03/2020 09:37

(PS Not suggesting your DD was as horrible as I was, btw)

Now, I was thinking about building a basic BBQ with these paving slabs I've erm... acquired.

Mustress won't mind, right?

Or would they be better used as part of a still in case the sherry etc runs out?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 31/03/2020 13:04

Go for the still LaM much more useful and potentially a profitable enterprise?

She veers between stroppy and nice and I am trying to be terribly mature and Walk Away (like some other people we could mention but mustn't).

TheMustressMhor · 31/03/2020 14:11

Ha ha ha LaMa I always knew it was you who took the slabs.

I have the garden on CCTV and I caught you, sneaking around, thinking nobody could see you.

TheMustressMhor · 31/03/2020 14:14

And I am feeling VERY HAPPY as for reasons best known to themselves, Amazon have delivered two bottles of sherry to Mhor Cottage.

Mr. Mhor is similarly gratified - they sent twenty cans of Tennents and twenty cans of Becks.

The chicken stock cubes and bottle of bleach also appeared, although I cannot remember ordering them.

I might have been under the influence of gin when I sent that order

TheMustressMhor · 31/03/2020 14:17

UNBELIEVABLE DEVELOPMENT

No.

This has to be a joke.

The Robbing Butcher has only sent me a FRIEND request on FaceBook.

7Penguins · 31/03/2020 14:22

Shock did you accept? Shock

LaMarschallin · 31/03/2020 15:22

You must accept!

Please...

It will give us all a new interest in these dramatic yet strangely boring times.

And it might take her mind off that CCTV film.
Besides, I was only squatting down behind that bush to smell the flowers.
Blush

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 31/03/2020 15:55

Mustress I must urge caution. If you accept him as a friend it will open a door into the RB's dark and murky world. The genie will be out of the bottle. On the other hand you'll know what he's up to when the shop's shut.

TheMustressMhor · 31/03/2020 18:21

I am not sure that I particularly want to know what the RB is up to when the shop's shut.

Something unspeakable and nefariouos, I'll be bound.

Why the FUCK has he sent me a FRIEND request?

TheMustressMhor · 31/03/2020 18:27

Crikey.

The rants on his FB page are off the scale.

In some, he appears to be an ultra right-wing lunatic, and in others, he seems to be an ultra left-wing lunatic.

There was a rant about mince pies (he started it just before Christmas) and threatened to ram the cars of customers who offered him any.

He is unhinged.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 31/03/2020 19:34

yes, but possibly amusing to share with us? I would 'friend' for the curiosity value and then unfollow - thus being able see posts without him knowing (I think?)

Relative peace restored for the moment chez yolo. It's a fragile peace, a bit like playing football on the front line during WW1...

TheMustressMhor · 31/03/2020 22:02

Oh, I see.

The sacrifice of the few for the greater good (entertainment) of the other posters on this thread?
Let me think about this.

7Penguins · 01/04/2020 07:46

Morning!
Mat leave has ended and today I'm starting my new job - drinking copious amounts of coffee before Zooming with my boss. Brew

LaMarschallin · 01/04/2020 08:19

Good luck with your first day, 7 Flowers and Wine (latter for later Smile).*
They're lucky to have you.
Let us know how it goes.

*DH has a t-shirt with:
"BEER: Not just a breakfast drink"
on it.
Yes, obviously he has better taste in women than in clothes...ahem

PenguinOrHippo · 01/04/2020 11:34

Hi 7 , very best of luck!! You will do brilliantly! BrewCake.

The flat is looking slightly more bearable. The council can this morning, so we put all the attic rubbish out for the arranged collection. Then Mr Hippo had a quiet morning and he has brought down two new boxes from the attic.... I wonder if I can lock the door and loose the key...?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 01/04/2020 13:14

7 I hope your morning has gone well and you are now having a well earned lunch break?

DH may well find himself under a certain patio. He announced today that he is going to build himself a new computer tower from all the bits of shit that he has in the mancave. I suggested perhaps he could do some stuff to the house instead, to which replied "but I AM".

Yeah, but not like building the units for the back bit of the kitchen, which are sitting in the garage, or putting up the new bathroom cabinets for the DDs, or a bit of painting or DIY? And, despite the F1 season being cancelled he still keeps finding reruns of old GP and shouting as loudly as he did the first time they were on. Thin ice, DH, thin ice.

mustress dear mustress, I think befriending the RB on FB is called 'taking one for the team'? Duty must, in these hard times.

7Penguins · 01/04/2020 13:34

I’ve hardly done much, juggling work, baby and an idiotic DH is draining.
Patio here too, I think! I need extra slabs and an alibi.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 01/04/2020 14:13

7 you've been with me all day haven't you?

7Penguins · 01/04/2020 18:25

yolo Indeed and it’s been great visiting you and the chickens! Halo

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 01/04/2020 19:00

7 and werent my grown up DDs fab with the baby? Grin

You got to sit down and drink tea and eat cake (shop, I can only go so far...) and we had a lovely natter. Do hope baby is exhausted by the entertainment tonight!

TheMustressMhor · 01/04/2020 19:17

7 I knew you'd be fine.

Sod work for the moment. Easy for me to say, I know, but your baby must take priority.

Hippo could you just put Mr. Hippo into a selection of the boxes he keeps bringing you? Obviously you would have to murder and dismember him first.

yolo I have spent the day with my finger hovering over the "Accept" button, not sure if I have the courage to accept the Robbing Butcher's Friend request.

Here be Dragons.
